2021 ANNUAL REPORT

Welcome to Hidden Paradise Friends of Camp Rainbow Gold, This year was a series of milestones, memories, challenges, and triumphs. After our virtual camps and programs in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Camp Rainbow Gold medical advisors and board of directors had one resounding focus, “We must get these kids back to camp.” Virtual camp is not a solution for kids and families like ours who are already experts in quarantining and social isolation. It was time to get creative. We met with our medical and construction teams and decided we could and should host smaller, shorter camps and get the kids back together in 2021. With our property, Hidden Paradise, secured and available, we went back to the drawing board on our master plan and rearranged priorities to hos campers as soon as possible. We had no idea what remodeling 14 buildings in the middle of a pandemic and a supply chain shortage would mean. But incredible support from our community made it possible for the kids to attend camp at our new property two years ahead of schedule. We truly feel we pulled off a miracle. And we did it because we live in Idaho, and Idahoans have exceptionally generous hearts. In July, we hosted four great camps, including two sibling camps, a youth oncology camp, and a teen oncology camp. But Hidden Paradise is nowhere near done. We need two key components to get our camps back to regular (pre-COVID) capacity, and to prepare the property to host the other nonprofits lining up to use the space. First, we need infrastructure — water, septic, power, pathways, roads — to handle existing structures and amenities planned. Second, we need a new lodge to serve as a safe gathering place and dining hall for campers, families, and other organizations. We’re confident in our vision for the camp and are looking forward to the progress planned for the next few years. With COVID-19 still a top concern in February, our annual Share Your Heart fundraiser was developed into a virtual benefit and raised funds through an online auction, sponsorships, relationships, and even Zoom meetings. We kicked off a beautiful campaign that helped build an artistic “Field of Love” to welcome campers to our new home. We are thankful to everyone who continued to Share Your Hearts during the pandemic. Your generosity also helped to extend our college scholarship program to include siblings for the first time and we awarded nearly 30 scholarships. We were also able to bring back some of our teen support groups for outside activities to keep them connected during the school year. 2021 was a year of creative thinking, trying new things but always staying focused on the needs of the families we serve. Thanks to you, all of our donors and volunteers, we were still able to bring so much love hope, love, and fun to the families we support. Thank you! Keep Shining!
