2020 ANNUAL REPORT

The Summer We Camped at Home Friends of Camp Rainbow Gold, Like many organizations, Camp Rainbow Gold experienced a challenging 2019/2020 fiscal year.

It feels like a lifetime ago (and also just yesterday) when we were ringing in the new year, excitedly planning a celebrated gala, and launching another incredible camp year. Then we turned around and watched it disappear into a cloud of uncertainty.

The ups and downs of those months seemed endless. But we spent time reflecting on our mission, purpose, and what Camp means to Idaho’s children and families.

This reflection took us back to basics — back to our mission and values. We provide emotionally empowering experiences to Idaho children diagnosed with cancer. It is vital to deliver on our mission and provide connections and support.

This year was all about being quick on our feet. As a nonprofit we work hard to plan dollars raised and dollars spent which often requires a great deal of flexibility when you are dependent on others – donors, partners, and volunteers. But we were not surprised when our vendors were as generous as they could be to help cover losses.

We were overjoyed when our donors had a common response of “No worries, keep our donations and pledges!” We were grateful when volunteers started asking, “How can we help?” This kindness allowed us to focus on what to do about camp. Our network of support and our ability to be flexible was our greatest asset this year.

Volunteers and staff got around the virtual table and planning began. They pushed through the disappointment of not seeing the kids and the challenges they were facing to invent an entirely different program to reach our families. We truly missed being together and out in the great Idaho oudoors. However, we were also reminded of the true meaning behind Camp Rainbow Gold — providing hope, love and fun for Idaho’s children.

This opportunity to provide that Camp magic virtually was new, different and challenging, but it still had all the heart and magic our Campers love and all the connections and support they need. We will always hold a special memory for the summer we camped at home and all the lessons and opportuities it provided.

Camp Rainbow Gold is built on the foundation of every single one of our campers, families, supporters, and volunteers. We weather storms because of everything our community has given over the years. Without our supporters, we would not have the blessings we do today which allowed us to remain open, operating, and working to keep our programs moving forward during this incredibly challenging time.

2019/2020 Year in Review 2020 Virtual Camp programs welcomed: • • • •

34 Youth Oncology Campers 27 Teen Oncology Campers 106 Sibling Campers 65 Camp Families including 11 New Families

We mailed 78 Camp-At-Home kits to reach campers.

College Scholarships We awarded 18 full time scholarships totaling $45,000 for the 2020/2021 school year.

Volunteers 123 volunteers donated about 1,750 hours of time.

Family Movie Night The first CRG family drive-in movie night in September 2020, welcomed 27 families to enjoy a double feature: The Sandlot and Jurassic Park.

Family Holiday Ornaments 150 active camp families and almost 100 active volunteers recieved unique CRG holiday ornaments.

They were a special craft where families and volunteers could decorate a rainbow craft to hang on their tree or in their homes.

Hidden Paradise Progress at our new home never slowed, as we finalized an initial master plan, kicked off the capital campaign to begin construction and infrastructure and determined how to get kids to camp in 2021.
