Remember, Renew, Rejoice: CMW Celebrates 100 Summers! Happy Birthday, Merrie-Woode! The summer of 2018 saw Merrie-Woode’s 100th summer come to life, and so many of you joined us at the Centennial Celebration. What a weekend it was! Camp bustled with Merrie-Woode girls (and boys) from every generation during the weekend of June 22 through June 24. Memories were shared as we came together to celebrate this place that means so much to all of us. Friday began with dozens of volunteers who leaped into action to get camp ready for the merriment. They worked the registration tent, tended the Stock Shop, answered questions, folded napkins, and stepped in to help throughout the weekend. Thank you, volunteers, for all of your hard work. Much of the weekend’s success was a result of your can-do attitude! The opening event of the weekend was Friday night’s flag raising ceremony, hosted by long-time Merrie-Woode staff member and trip leader Doug Cameron, Merrie-Woode alumna Pam Pittman Turner, and former Executive Director and alumna Laurie Turner Strayhorn. Once the flags were up, the evening’s entertainment began with

a Bluegrass and BBQ dinner on the waterfront. Alumnae celebrated with their families while reconnecting with cherished camp friends. Friday evening continued with a traditional Merrie-Woode campfire, which was kindled by members of the 1979 camp staff. These women worked in ’79 on a volunteer basis when the Merrie-Woode Foundation was young and camp’s future was uncertain, and watching them ignite the fire was a subtle reminder to all who attended that Merrie-Woode’s light is brighter than ever!
