SUNDAY EVENINGS

The time I (and I think many others) look forward to most is the Sunday evenings. The memories of the week being brought back by the Ripple, Calamity Ann always bringing laughs, and the MUSIC. The more music I hear the more I want to hear (just like salted peanuts).

The other day I was lying in the hammock thinking hard about Dammie and how sweet and kind she always is, how she tries to make this camp to suit us and how she wants everything to be perfect just for us. She tries to make us happy by helping us when we are feeling helpless and also by trying to do everything in her power to make us all content and happy, and I think we ought to help her by trying to bo kind to others. A NIGHT AT TEE OPERA

TTo all were surprised when Joyce LeCraw stepped up in high hat and announced that all campers -should attend the opera "Carmen" at the Castle Theatre in full dress. At 8 o'clock the house was full and the opera was ready to start with the gentlemen yawning and the ladies fanning thomsolvos busily. A shudder ran over the audience as the orchestra marched in \irith the latest hair-dos for musical men. The comb section blended beautifully with Otter's silent bugle. Rugh Lewis brought down the house when she goosed stopped in and drop^;."• "':•! '; gun on her too.

Then a flirtatious little country girl bripp^d in and almost captured Don Jones' heart until Carmen danced in and before sho finished she had gained the heart of Don Jones. The boys chorus made quite a hit as they daintily dancod in. The toreador, with his muscular legs bravoly stopped in and killed the bull, winning over Carmen'i; heart* Carmen, torn between the love of two men stabbed herself. Don Jones quickly followed suit and soon €hrmen, Don Jones, the toreador, the boys chorus and the cigarette girle were lying dead on the floor and the band played on. We want to thank the counsellors one and all for a grand show and a wonderful time.

A "Funny Paper Party"! Yes, and. wo word all to come drossod .as-bur favorite conic story character. At eight o'clock lone rangers, supermen, and all tho rest began to arrive at tho Castle. We then had tho grand march for the judges Daramio, Ruth, Peggy, and Barbara, to decide upon the cleverest costume. After the march each person or her group, gave a short skit. The highlight of the party was when. Do.guo.od Bumstcad, alias Pete Jonos, came tearing into the room too quickly and broke a cup. Another fumny incident Y\ras the 'not quite exact fit' of Ann Drcnnon's pants. Laura "Hairless Joo" Keener made a big hit with the judges by saying 'UGH1 and incidcntly won first place.

The Bumstcad family won first as a group for having the best skit and costumes and Po.t and Kyle Tall curb brought down the house with their Edgar Bergen, Mortimer Snurd ;;.ct. /ill the winners received suckers and everyone, winner or not, had loads of fun.

TI3E GOOD OLE HIKE TO TOXAWAY Wo left in tho truck and rode to tho foot of Toxawoy Mountain. We were all so very happy because there was a cool wind and we know wo would have an easy climb (at least not a hot one), but just us wo started up, down poured the rain. You've never seen such torrents. A lot-of us sat under the truck while Johnny Mac was malting his decision. Ho finally decided to lot us go on up. so Boozy drove tho truck on back to camp.

Wo started up tho mountain and lightning struck the mountain in front of us, so wo had to come on back to camp. I.think that the Knights who wont on this hike will always remember the overnight hike that ended up spending the night at tho "Witches Kitchen." ., . <"..;â&#x20AC;˘ ...'..

THE OVERNIGHT HORSEBACK TRIP

We don't have much time to write just now, but we just want to say what a perfectly swell-elegant ride we had. Nothing was wrong with it and we had plenty of things to amuse uss Wally (better known as the jail bird) entertained us with some "trick riding", Billy upheld his tradition and lay down in the stream, and in the afternoon we were practically soaked to the skin when it rained, but no horse back trip would be complete without this.

That night we all sat around the fire and sang, with the exception of one member who was a little ill. During the night all was peaceful except when the horses got loose and the riding staff became slightly infuriated, Next morning we .made our packs, and towed them up the hill, and had a grand ride home.

Vfe want to thank the riding staff and Johnny Mao for one grand trip.

All of us managed to live through assembly and were on our way at ning-forty five* It seemed ages before we finally reached the half way point. I was exhausted and I feel fairly safe when I say that I wasn't the only one. Johnny Mac inspired us on by telling us the v/orst was over* I, for one, believed him.

All that have ever climbed Old Bald will never forget that first half mile.

After ;}ust miles and miles of climbing wo come out on the face of Bald. I thought I hod come as far as man could tread, but not so. Johnny Mao, after letting us blow, cleared his throat and asked ell those that wished to go on please to follow him. I, not wishing to bo outdono followed, with many a backward glanco at the members of our little group who had not the energy to go on* After five minutes more of walking, wo at long last, came to the real tip top of Old Bald. The view was very beautiful and after talcing several pictures, I began to got some candid shots of my fair companions* I was taking what I know would have been a most marvellous picture when onŠ very wiso looking counsellor suggested that I could take the same picture at a much better angle some feet away* I took this good woman's advice and was ready to toko the picture, when I heard Marna Bromberg's movie camera start going at full speed* All at once I realized that it was not a camora but the biggest snake I had ever seen* I let out a war whoop to Johnny Mac. He calmly ordered Tony to find a snake stick, and then he picked up a limb from some big tree and started out after the snake, After much excitement and strain on our nerves, the snake was killed. Just then the rain came but xve were all too interested to mind, for at that point Johnny Mac began to take off the snake's skin* After everything had been taken care of, Johnny Mac started us off back toward the group that wo had loft forty five minutes before. After showing them the snake's meat, head, and skin, we feegan our slide down Bald. The rain was coming fast and steady and the trail (if you could call slick rock that) was as slick as glass, I had a wonderful time coming down, but I am afraid that the seat of my pants suffered, Wo returned to camp just in time to change clothes and then go to our huge lunch. A JAY jj.1 CU;,P This morning we were awakened by revelry, which was blown by Ann Weasil.

Then we all turned over and wont back to sleep. Just as we were getting nice and asleep again, an unearthly sounding bell woke us up, at which we all ran up to the uncivilized timber to brush our teeth. Then we went back to bed and slept until another bell rang, upon which we dashed out of bed, flung on our clothes and rushed up to the cabin to partake of our morning food, where we had to apologize to Dammie for being late again. t* After breakfast we went to our cabins to spread our top blankets over our beds, which we didn't bother to make up, so it would look smooth. It took us -so long to do this that we were late for assembly.

Then we wait to tennis where we lost all our balls. When we went to swim we got there late and Frances Pir wouldn't let us go in on -account of it was the counsellor's period.

Then we wait to camp craft which was taught by Antoinnette Denman and a funny man with fuzz on his upper lip who tried to make us climb up a waterfall.

Lator we went to partake of our noonday me-al where we nearly starved on account they've made a silly rule that we can't eat more than twenty biscuits and not more than four helpings of everything olse, Then we had rest hour in which we played TarZan on the rafters. In the afternoon we went .to canoes where we rammed a whole .in the bottom of the boat, and later foil out and had to be rescued. After this, we went to dramatics where we were late as usual. When- wo reached the middle of the stage we remembered that we had forgotten to learn our linos, to the exasperation of everybody.

That night wo wont to the palaco whore we square danced. We fell down at every turn and bumped into almost ovoryono. After this we wiggled around the floor in a circle and mumbled some funny sounding things. Then, after we got through singing a very off key sounding "knocks", we went to sleep.

THE HIKE UP CHIM2Y TOP On Friday, Johnny Mac said tho Senior Knights were going on a hike up Chimney Top, but there wore only four senior knights and the rest were knights who were in the play.

We started out around 10:30. At first the climb was hard and we all got tired out but later on wo got used to it and it wasn't half so bad. When we reached the top we all grabbed for our lunches but Johnny lac wouldn't let us eat for about twenty minutes. When we finally did eat we all ggreed it was tho best lunch we'd ever tasted.

After lunch we rested a xvhile and we're sorry to say there won't be a hike to Chimney Top next year because Charlotte Williams decided to tear up tho mountain.

Just as we started down it bogan to rain and we had foo-foos all the way down and in every stream we sat down or else fell in.

We all want to thank Toni and Johnny Mac for a grand time because there is no reason why anyone who wont could help but have one.

Then Chug-A-Wump said he ^lrould make himself at home in a Jack 0'Lantern whore ho would have not a single Cob Web, for he would use his Paint Box to hide them, Chug-A-Sump wouldn't decide whether to call his now home Pino Manor or Fern Lodge because thoro wore plenty of pines and ferns around the near-by Bee Hive. On the fateful eve of July 26th, shrill cries wore heard from the direction of tho cabin. Tfflhen we arrived upon the scene, a horrible sight greeted our eyes. Lillio was crushing tho frail body of Johnny Mac, while Sally was crudely strangling his lily white throat.

As with terror we watched this horrible scone, we saw Lillio brandishing over tho limp body of the trembling victim. With one groat flourish of nor hand she severed tho unhappy mountacho from his ashen white lip.

As she finished her horrible deed wo hoard tho helpless victim cry, "I'm ruined, I'm ruined," and with a thud ho fell limply to tho floor. It was too groat a shock for his delicate system, but wo sincerely hope that ho will recover soon.

P.S. A word to tho wise is sufficient. Beware all male inhabitants of Camp Morrio-Woodo who are thinking of growing a moustache.

Thursday c.t assembly De-ramie wr.s just gcttin ready to read us a poom when we hoard a lot of noise and in came Cakio, Peggy, Jackie, Julie, and Stow dressed as gypsies. Then we all hurried down to our shacks and dressed like gypsies and then we wore ready to go. We walked and walked.

We' finally got there. After feeing there for about a half_ an hour Johnny Mao came along with a peg leg asking people to sign their names.

Every one won't in wading and wo had a wondorful time.

THE MERRIE-WOODE BARN DANCE Every one know something exciting was going to happen as usual on Saturday night. And everyone know it was Alma Sallcy's birthday. But no one knew or 'oven guessed that Alma would give a party. At supper it was announced that it would be a barn dance and we were to como in couples dressed as hicks. At eight o'clock fanners and farmerettes began to arrive.

Besides square dancing to a real hill-billy band there were tricks and fortune telling. Johnny Mac ocillod the square dancing and everyone _ enjoyed it thoroughly but we wore all pretty tired by the end. Wo all wisii to thank Alma for giving the party and getting the swell band and providing us with a grand evening.

The next morning about six o'clock we woke up and looked in our stockings.

They chose tho latter* As usual wo had buddies but, for a change, wo stayed in only one minute and a half which was plenty long because it was rather chilly.
