Looking Ahead with Excitement! Looking Ahead to 2022! The year 2020 brought with it many challenges – and lessons. In 2021 CAMP started moving toward a “new normal,” with even more lessons learned along the way. Through it all, we can all agree it has been quite the journey. As we look ahead to 2022 we are planning to hold some version of all of CAMP’s traditional programs – Respite Weekend Camps, Spring Break Camp, Family Weekend Retreats, Parent’s Night Out, Teen and Adult Day Adventure, and, of course, Summer Camp! We will continue to monitor guidelines for best practices where vaccinations, testing, and other precautions are concerned, and will keep information updated as best we can on www.campcamp.org. One of the things we have certainly learned is that situations change – and we are dedicated to continuous monitoring of both internal and external events that impact the health and safety of our CAMP Family. Among the challenges we face in providing safe and healthy CAMP programs, is getting the commitment of volunteer counselors, event staff, and healthcare volunteers necessary to operate our programs. If you are 15-years-old or older and fall into one of those categories, CAMP (and most especially our Campers) needs you! We have volunteer and staff opportunities ranging from a few hours, to a whole week, and even to a whole summer! If you have been involved with CAMP for some time now, you know that every summer we introduce a new theme. We are pleased to announce “Summer Camp 2022: The Expedition Edition.” Join us on this journey as we explore all that CAMP has to offer. Consider becoming a member of the expedition party or perhaps even an expedition leader. Your journey awaits! Make a difference...Volunteer! Calling all Volunteers – spring programs need you! CAMP continues to be incredibly grateful for the time and dedication volunteers contribute to help support our programs and Campers. The fall season was filled with wonderful weekends at Camp CAMP where volunteers helped Campers and their Families reach their maximum potential by canoeing along the Guadalupe River, making pottery in the Arts & Crafts pavilion, and dancing the night away underneath the beautiful Texas Hill Country stars. Volunteers also spent Saturdays with our Campers out in the San Antonio community enjoying the outdoors, learning about nature, and participating in thrilling adventures. So many CAMP programs – so many Volunteers – so many Camper smiles!

We have just as much fun planned for the spring, including the return of our Parent’s Night Out program (PNO). Which means we need YOU! We cannot wait to see our younger Campers back at our programs. With such an undertaking we will need the help of our extraordinary volunteers to accomplish this and encourage everyone to sign up! Thanks to all our volunteers out there for being a part of our programs, for helping spread the word of CAMP’s volunteer opportunities and getting more people to join our ranks. So many fresh faces have been added to the volunteer team from recruitment efforts all around! CAMP Volunteers are the driving force of our CAMP family. It is because of the dedication, enthusiasm, and heartfelt devotion of our volunteers that CAMP programs continue to strengthen and inspire our special needs community now and to come.

Spotlight on

Claudio Ramos Claudio Ramos started volunteering at CAMP in the summer of 2019. Originally, his mom signed him up and he agreed to go because his friends said it was fun. “The friendship and camaraderie of CAMP made me feel welcome during my first time out.” Claudio’s first Camper buddy was Robert and his favorite activity of the week was the dance. “Robert loved the dance. He came casual, in cargo shorts. We shut down that dance – and it felt so good to see him be himself”. Claudio’s favorite activity is canoeing, because it is a very calm time in what can be a little chaotic during a CAMP session! “I love seeing Campers out on the water, and it’s something that is rare for people to do outside of CAMP.” Claudio volunteers frequently at respite weekends and multiple weeks in the summer. “It’s a lot of fun. I feel productive, have a good time with friends, and get to meet new people and see the joy of the Campers. It puts me in a good mood.”

Thank you Claudio for your amazing commitment to CAMP!
