Claire Moynihan Spotlight on

“Before I came to CAMP, I had spent every summer at other camps swimming, doing archery, enjoying waterfronts, and making lifelong friends. Summers meant the world to me, and I credit a majority of my favorite childhood memories to time spent in cabins, kayaks, and color wars. When, on a whim, I volunteered at CAMP in high school, I had no idea what to expect. I had never considered what horseback could look like for someone with limited movement, how swimming works with a tracheostomy tube, or how canoeing could be adapted to all abilities. I was amazed to see my favorite things enjoyed by populations so often left out, and even more shocked that I had never realized how much accessibility was lacking outside the gates of CAMP. Seeing such encompassing inclusion for the first time was wonderful and exciting and has forever changed my worldview.”

“CAMP is my home and the place I’ve made some of my most valued friendships. I’ve laughed, happy-cried, danced, and sang with friends across every inch of it. CAMP is why I know, and care give for my best friend with cerebral palsy, why I am studying to be an Occupational Therapist, why I can never run out of funny stories. I’ve loved every second of sharing with friends the ultimate experience that is a summer camp. Growing up, I learned a camp song that says all that needs to be said: love is for those who find it, and I found mine right here.
