Welcome to the 2021 Gala! Thank you so much for joining the 2021 Starry Night CAMP Gala! CAMP has been a part of our family’s life for an amazing two decades. While we may have been apprehensive at the beginning, the experience significantly changed the life of our daughter Shelby, along with our entire family after just one week of summer camp. Today, Shelby participates in summer camp, Respite Weekends, and the Teen and Adult Day Adventure program! We are extremely grateful for your time tonight and can’t wait to show you how CAMP impacts our community in so many different ways. Don’t miss the final Thank You by many of our campers. We are delighted by the support and love of CAMP received by our community across the Nation!

My family has been involved with Camp for 20 years. My oldest son, Sam with Autism, has been a camper for those 20 years. The first time we dropped him off for a week of summer camp was scary. However, picking him up at the end of camp made all the difference. Seeing his huge smile and hearing how much his peers and counselors loved him told us CAMP would be in his life for many years. His younger brother, Noah, joined him at camp several years later. He learned he was not the only one with a sibling with IDD and would look forward to camp just as much as his brother, if not more! He later became a counselor for many, many summers. CAMP has given him true friendships and taught him to selflessly care for those that need love the most. CAMP is in our hearts and truly a part of our family.

About the 2021 Gala There are times we all wish to blend into the background – to go about our daily lives without drawing attention from others. There are also times when we wish to be noticed – to be seen, to be heard, and for others to really get to know us. For many individuals and families in the special needs community, the experience is just the opposite – attention is gained when they just want to blend in, and they become invisible when they just want others to get to know them. At CAMP we these campers and their families. We their stories. We get to them as friends, neighbors, and members of our CAMP Family. We come to understand the challenges they face from a very real and poignant perspective, and we join in celebrating their accomplishments as they reach toward their maximum potential. Our lives are richer because we know them, and we believe the world outside of CAMP needs the opportunity to be enriched by seeing, hearing, and knowing them as well. We invite you to join us on this journey so you, too, may be enriched by their stories – and just maybe, you’ll become a storyteller yourself. 2021 Emcees Dan Weiss is in his 12th year with Spurs Sports & Entertainment as studio co-host of the Spurs Live pre-game and post-game shows. Prior to joining the Spurs broadcasting team, Dan brought San Antonio Rampage and San Antonio FC games to life on Ticket 760 AM and FSSW. He and his wife, Lauren, have two children, Emily and Ethan.
Bertha Jones has attended CAMP since she was seven years old! In fact, because of a CAMP luggage tag on one of her bags, she was responsible for bringing every member of her extended family to CAMP at some point as either a Camper, Volunteer, or Staff Member. After all of these years, Bertha continues to be an advocate for the special needs community as a whole, and for CAMP specifically!
Blake Hyland has been coming to CAMP since 2018. Because his personality is as big as the Texas sky, Blake quickly began making friends with everyone he meets! He’s always ready with a riddle, a joke, or a math problem, and you would not want to go head-to-head with him in a contest in any of these areas!

2021 Guest Speakers Jaime Wesolowski is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Methodist Healthcare Ministries. A healthcare executive with three decades of leadership experience, Jaime believes his personal experience as a cancer survivor has given him more defined insight and compassion to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
Dr. John recounts a series of moments on his journey from a child diagnosed with cerebral palsy to his present position as an associate professor and chief of Child Abuse Pediatrics. Dr. John is one of CAMP’s “Top Docs” and we can’t wait to hear his story during the Gala!
Special Olympian Chris Nikic, at 21 years old, entered the Guinness Book of World Records by becoming the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman challenge. Chris will share his inspirational story during the Gala!

The 2021 Auction is amazing! We have over 100 packages ranging in value and interests. Bidding is easy! Simply set up your secure, personalized account.
Setting Up to Bid STEP 1: From the home page (gala.campcamp.org) click on the auction link. You can also get there by typing in bit.ly/CAMPGalaAuction.
STEP 2: Create an account by clicking "Get Started." You will be prompted to put in your credit card information. This is a secure system and nothing will be charged unless you win a package or make a donation. STEP 3: Now that you are logged in, the top right part of your home screen will change from “Get Started” to “Favorites.” Bid On! Now, you can start bidding, save your favorites by clicking the star icon, and even search if you know the package name or number.

Bidding Tips & Help BROWSE! Just swipe down to show more packages until you find one you like. Then, click on the package to view. VIEW. Clicking on a package will give you a closeup of the image, view the current bid price, and value. Here you will also find additional pictures as well as options depending on how you would like to bid. PLACE A BID. When you click a button, you'll be given a choice to confirm the kind of bid you wish to make. When you are satisfied, click "OK" to place your bid.

Check out CAMP’s Facebook page and stream from there. GALA WEBSITE. Watch directly from the gala.campcamp.org page! FUN TIP. Although we are unable to stream through YouTube this year, it might be possible to connect your laptop to a TV. We recommend trying this in advance of Saturday’s programs.

Volunteer!
Volunteers are an integral part of how CAMP programs are delivered year-round. Volunteers at CAMP are students, teachers, business owners, community leaders, doctors, nurses, and other professionals. While the majority of our volunteers are individuals, we frequently have groups volunteer from local businesses, community organizations, schools, churches, as well as universities and colleges (both locally and nationally). Types of Volunteer Opportunities • Summer Camp Volunteers • Respite Retreat Volunteers • Parent's Night Out (PNO) Volunteers • Teen and Adult Day Adventure (TADA) Volunteers • Work Groups (from civic organizations, corporate groups, and even groups of friends)
