Santa’s Sleigh Santa made his annual trek from the North Pole all the way to CAMP to pay a visit to our Campers. Campers who attended the December Parent’s Night Out event were treated to a gift from
Jolly Old St. Nick (see photos below), and they shared with him their holiday wishes. Santa promised to come back the following week for Weekend Respite CAMP, and he didn’t disappoint! The sound of
Lands at CAMP reindeer hooves could be heard atop the CAMP Dining Hall as Santa landed with all 12 reindeer. In his bag were gifts for every Camper selected with great care by his two best Elves. While handing out presents, Santa
thanked each Camper for remembering to leave out milk and cookies last year on Christmas Eve. He let out a hearty, “HO, HO, HO!� before heading back to the North Pole.

The Big Give Moves to March
Be sure to mark your calendar for the #BigGive2018, because South Central Texas’ twenty-four hour online giving day is set for Thursday, March 22, 2018! Starting at midnight on March 22nd, YOU can help Campers reach their Maximum Potential when you click here and DONATE $10 (or more) OR click FUNDRAISE to set up YOUR OWN fundraising page, and become a Champion for CAMP! “This is the fifth year CAMP will participate in the Big Give,” said Executive Director Susan Osborne. “Every gift given by our generous supporters goes directly to helping Campers who need financial assistance to attend a week of CAMP.” Last year CAMP supporters gave $38,600 and helped CAMP win an
additional $6,500 in prizes. That's a total of $45,100! This year CAMP has set its sights even higher with a fundraising goal of $60,000 to strengthen and inspire individuals with special needs. And while the Big Give is serious business, it also gives CAMP staff an opportunity to have a bit of fun. Last year Camp Director Ben Elble and Chief Program Officer and Executive Camping Director Dr. Brandon Briery went head to head in a game of Messy Cascarones. CAMPfest Fe It was a fun-filled day on October 21st as CAMP hosted CAMPfest! Parents and prospective volunteers had the opportunity to tour the facility, attend a question and answer session, and participate in camp activities. Campers came dressed in costumes and filled their bags with treats as they took part in arts and crafts, outdoor cooking,
archery, face painting, music recreation, the petting zoo, carnival games, exploring a fire truck, and jumping in the bounce house. “In the past, CAMPfest was hosted in the spring time, however, we’ve come to realize that to better serve our CAMP families, moving the event to the fall allows more families to
eatures FUN register in February,” said Susan Osborne, CAMP Executive Director. “CAMPfest gives families who are new to CAMP an opportunity to learn about our programs and make the decision to register for a summer session.” Parents and caregivers also had an opportunity to visit the resource fair, where 15 agencies shared information about the
services they provide for the special needs community. Thank-you to: Artful Start, Margie Barker, H-E-B and the H-E-Buddy, the Kerrville Fire Department, Gamma Chi Delta sorority, and our other wonderful volunteers for helping to make this day so successful! New Sensory Room at CAMP CAMP is extremely grateful for a generous gift from the Charity Ball Association of San Antonio, Inc. which made it possible to create a Sensory Room for Campers who attend the Parent’s Night Out event at our Lackland AFB facility. The Sensory Room (pictured below) is a dedicated space designed to block out noise and light. The room provides stimulation that can be controlled to provide a
calming, highly pleasant environment. “This unique space offers Campers who have difficulty processing sensory information an environment that meets their individual needs,” said Assistant Camp Director Alex Sego. “We are grateful for this gift because having a place where Campers feel safe and free to explore at their own pace is the key to helping them reach their maximum potential.”
KOA Cares for CAMP KOA Care Camps helped CAMP purchase a shuttle golf cart. The golf cart provides transportation for Campers who become easily fatigued due to medical conditions. “At CAMP, we want Campers to spend
their time and energy having fun at activities and interacting with peers,” said Chief Program Officer and Executive Camping Director Dr. Brandon Briery. “This golf cart ensures that they will.”
