Starry Night CAMP Gala to Honor its Founders

Join us on Saturday, September 10, 2016 when Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) honors its founders, Dr. Chris Plauche Johnson, Dr. Fred McCurdy, and Dr. Robert deLemos (dec.) at the 8th Annual Starry Night CAMP Gala.
“It was 37 years ago when Dr. Plauche Johnson, Dr. McCurdy, and Dr. deLemos, all Air Force Pediatricians, took 32 of their patients with special needs camping for the weekend,” said CAMP Executive Director Susan Osborne. “They saw first-hand the benefits of providing social and recreational opportunities to individuals with special needs and CAMP was born. Today CAMP helps over 1000 individuals to reach their Maximum Potential every year.” The event, which will be held at the San Antonio Country Club, will begin at 6 pm with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner, a short program, and presentation of our honorees. The gala supports CAMP’s summer and school-year programs. Alumni Reconnect & Stay Involved CAMP is excited to announce new shortterm opportunities for Alumni to reconnect and stay involved during Summer 2016! While we encourage Alumni to come out to CAMP for a visit at any time, we have three new ways for Alumni to reconnect with CAMP and fellow Alum this summer: Alumni Visit Days, Help with Check-In and Check-out, or Host an Alumni Gathering. Alumni Visit Days: June 23rd & July 14th Alumni are invited to come out to CAMP for the day, enjoy activities and meals with the campers and counselors, and stick around for the dance!
Alumni the chance to reconnect and share the glory of by-gone days. Help with Check-In and Check-Out: Alumni are invited to join CAMP Staff on Sundays and Fridays throughout the summer to help with check-in and check-out. Just email Alex Sego to schedule a time to greet camper and counselor families or serve refreshments to those waiting to check in or out. Participating in Alumni Visit Days or helping with summer check-in and check-out are great ways for Alumni to reconnect with CAMP and reach out to the new generation of campers and counselors. It makes a huge impression on new volunteers when CAMP Alumni participate during summer camp sessions. Host an Alumni Gathering: If you live in the San Antonio or Austin area, you can host an Alumni gathering in your home, business, or other venue to give
an impact on someone, and then that person goes out and makes an impact on someone else. CAMP today is a result of 37 years of people paying it forward!”

Score One for CAMP CAMP was well under par in the 2016 Valero Texas Open Birdies for Charity. CAMP supporters hit a hole in one with record breaking donations! A total of $8,445.24 was raised by 19 donors, exceeding our goal by $924.24 and helping CAMP finish as one of the top 50 charities included in the Valero Texas Open Pro-Am Challenge. CAMP was paired with Pro-Golfer Ryan Palmer. Although team Palmer didn’t place “in the money” for the Pro-Am, he tied for 4th place in the four day Valero Texas Open tournament with an impressive nine under par. Thank YOU to our CAMP supporters “fore” helping us keep the drive alive six years in a row. With lucky #7 clearly in our sights, and our eye on the pin, we
are teed up for Birdies for Charity 2017 to be our most successful yet!
Nothing But Blue Skies for CAMPfest 2016 It was warm weather and blue skies on April 2nd as we hosted our 2016 CAMPfest event at Camp CAMP in Center Point, TX. Over 230 people attended this fun filled day.

CAMPers participated in arts & crafts, outdoor cooking, archery, face painting, a dance clinic, visited the petting zoo, explored a fire truck, attended story time, met local mascots, and more! Parents, and those interested in volunteering, had an opportunity to attend Question & Answer sessions, followed by tours of CAMP. The Resource Fair included local agencies that shared information about services for individuals with special needs. The
highlight of the day was the CAMP Fashion Show. CAMPers and volunteers strutted their stuff on the runway, modeling the latest in CAMP formal wear. “We are truly grateful to the organizations and individuals who came to CAMPfest to host activities,” said Development Manager, Lauren Weiss. Thank you to: Artful Start, Margie Barker, H-E-Buddy, Kerr Community Arts School, Kerrville Fire Department, Kerrville Public Library, Virginia Smith, and the Tivy High School Cheerleaders and their mascot Scrappy. Thank YOU to everyone who attended CAMPfest, we hope to see you again next year on Saturday, March 25, 2017!

Glitch Can’t Stop CAMP The 3rd of May 2016 will go down in the history books as the day a glitch in technology tried to stand in the way of The Big Give SA and the magic of CAMP. Because of YOU, CAMP started out strong. Then came the GLITCH! The the Big Give SA website crashed, but CAMP wasn’t defeated because you knew the
CAMPers were counting on you. When the website came back up on May 4th, YOU made sure CAMP finished strong. Our rallying cry was #GlitchCantStopCAMP. CAMP supporters took to their computers, laptops, and cell phones to save the day. Together you helped CAMP raise a total of $37,756.03 to strengthen and inspire individuals with special needs.
