Welcome! Thank you so much for joining the 2020 Starry Night CAMP Gala! This is the 12th year the Gala has taken place, but the first virtual Gala for CAMP. We are extremely grateful for your time tonight and can’t wait to show you how CAMP impacts our community in so many different ways. Please use this program as your guide. Don’t worry if you miss it because the slide show will air again at the end of the evening. We recommend watching the Gala live on your TV or computer while bidding on packages on your smart phone. Helpful tips are available at gala.campcamp.org. If you have any issues, you are welcome to email us at campmail@campcamp.org. We have staff members available and they will either email or call you back depending on the need. Don’t miss the final Thank You by campers who sent in their video clips! Segundo

The following poem was submitted by Carlos (Tony) Segundo. Tony is a longtime camper and loves spending time at CAMP! Tony wrote this poem about CAMP with the help of his therapist and we are so proud to share it with you!

When I arrive, I go to the check in and this is where all my fun begins. With a smile on their face and a friendly hello, the staff assists me wherever I go. Away to the cabin where I take a quick look, then see the grounds where all the campers meet up. One day I canoed, and we paddled away, I got to ride horses but mine didn’t want to stay. My favorite was making s’mores, but all that did was make me want more. The pool was a blast - I felt safe and secure, but of course - that’s what the staff ensures. Sing-a-longs and dancing made me feel happy, but my favorite day was the one we call Tacky. Of all the creative things I made, the memory book makes sure special moments never fade. I am so thankful I get to go to CAMP indeed, because I have experiences with people just like me. So, parents and family please don’t worry while I am at CAMP, keep sending those letters - just don’t forget the stamp.

Emcee Bio:

Abby Fisher Abigail (Abby) Fisher started life with a ‘bang’ and hasn’t looked back. She was born with several physical conditions that kept her parents busy in the early years but that did not slow this girl down! Abby was introduced to the CAMP family as an infant and attended The Littlest CAMP daycare until the age of two years old.

Once old enough, she began attending Parent’s Night Out followed by Respite Weekend Camp, and finally Summer Camp. Abby has been a regular attendee at summer camp and respite weekends for over 15 summers. Abby says she values CAMP because she gets to see her friends, gets to make new friends / memories and gets to do things she might not get to do without the help of CAMP (or her parents hanging around). Abby’s parents have seen the value CAMP brings to the picture in all the new skills Abby learns to be independent in while away at CAMP.

Speaker Bio:

Jenn Fisher

Jennifer (Jenn) Fisher is a registered nurse and mother of two who was once a camper herself. Jenn was introduced to CAMP when she was five years old and has been with the program ever since that time as a counselor and healthcare volunteer. Jenn has been a registered nurse for 21 years and has worked in many different areas of pediatric nursing. Since 2011, she has worked as a Case Manager with a large health insurance company. Jenn lives in San Antonio with her boyfriend (David) and two children (Abigail and Hayden). Jenn’s children have been campers since they were old enough to attend CAMP functions (20+ years). Jenn attributes a part of her success in nursing to both individual life experiences and experience received volunteering at CAMP. It’s been a roller coaster having 2 kids with special needs but, Jenn firmly believes ‘it takes a village’ and CAMP has always been a part of her family’s village.

Speaker Bio:

Julie Allen

Julie Allen has spent the past 35 years living in San Antonio, and is married to her husband Andy. She has always been an active member of her community through her church, her children’s schools, their sports teams, clubs, and Junior League of San Antonio. Julie is a former Board President of Brighton School, and served as Co-Chair of CAMP’s More Than A CAMP capital campaign. Julie has three grown sons, Hughes, Collins, and Drew, and two grandchildren, seven year old Tritt and four year old Larkin. Julie loves serving on CAMP’s Board of Directors. In her own words, “I believe in CAMP’s mission, especially because I have seen it unfold firsthand in my own family’s life. Collins has attended CAMP for 14 years. It has given him something so special to look forward to, and he has so much fun while at CAMP…developing his independence, social skills, confidences, and friendships. I am so proud to be an advocate for Collins and his fellow campers. It is my privilege to be on this board.”

Fund the Fun Fund the Fun is the very heart of what the Gala is about… ensuring individuals with special needs can attend CAMP, young adults have leadership development opportunities, healthcare professionals receive hands-on educational experiences, and parents receive much needed respite! Fund the Fun gives you the opportunity to give a financial gift to CAMP that will dramatically impact the work taking place this year and even into 2021. Choose an amount you would like to donate, and “raise your paddle” virtually by clicking that donation amount when it’s time. Together, we can raise over $100,000 in donations and make sure we all KeepCAMPing long into the future!

$10,000 Donation Your gift today of $10,000 ensures hundreds of health care professionals receive continuing education credits in addition to the critical hands-on experiences that not only impact CAMP, but impact patient care yearround in their home communities.

$5,000 Donation Your gift today of $5,000 makes a tremendous impact on hundreds of young adults who receive valuable leadership development through training and experiences at CAMP. Help us sustain this essential part of the work taking place at CAMP.

$2,500 Donation Your gift today of $2,500 makes an incredible impact on families who so badly need the time to rest that CAMP provides. Help us sustain the year-round programs as well as the Family Retreats that are such an essential part of the work taking place at CAMP.

$1,700 Donation Your gift today of $1,700 means a camper can attend summer camp who could not typically afford to do so. Because of you, campers experience activities without being defined by their disability.

$500 Donation Your gift today of $500 ensures Campers can continue to experience up close encounters with the amazing animals in CAMP’s nature center. Help us sustain this essential part of the work taking place at CAMP.

Donation of Any Amount Makes a Difference! Your gift today of any amount makes a tremendous difference in the operations of CAMP! Last year over $50,000 was raised by individuals who gave $10 and $20. No gift is too small because together...it all makes an impact at CAMP.

Volunteers at CAMP are students, teachers, business owners, community leaders, doctors, nurses, and other professionals.
