This long burning pillar is made with love, care and devotion by the Candleshop at Camphill Village, a community of people, some with special needs, caring for each other and for the earth.

Our Candles are dipped or molded by hand, using only the purest of Beeswax together with Love, Care and Devotion. These traditional candles have the delightful sweet fragrance of honey and are renowned for their purity, giving joy and inspiration whenever they are lit. The clear, soft light of the beeswax candle is a warm golden flame, incomparable in beauty or brilliance.

Founded in Copake NY in 1961, Camphill Village Copake is a vibrant life-sharing community, including adults with developmental disabilities. Sitting on 615 acres of verdant hills, pastures, and beautiful gardens in southern Columbia County, Camphill Village is part of the international Camphill Movement, based on the insights, philosophy and world view of the Anthroposophist, Rudolf Steiner.

Bring Your Space To Life These candles are extremely wide in diameter, allowing them to be burned for an extended period of time. Since they have more wax available to fuel the flame, some pillars can burn for more than 100 hours. Most commonly square or round, they come in an assortment of sizes and can be very useful to keep around the house in case of a power outage or to simply dress up the table for entertaining.

They play nicely in a team but also can stand alone stylishly. Our 100% pure Beeswax pillars have the delightful sweet fragrance of honey and are renowned for their purity, giving joy and inspiration whenever they are lit. The clear, soft light of the beeswax candle is a warm golden flame, incomparable in beauty or brilliance.

The defining characteristic of the pillar candle is its width, which separates it from tapers and other, narrower candles. The use of a candleholder is highly recommended to catch wax, stabilize the candle, and reduce the risk of fire while the candle burns. Some people simply burn pillar candles on plates or trays, but there are also candle holders specifically designed for pillar candles. Some of these candle holders use deep bowls to firmly seat the candle, while others are flat, with spikes which are designed to impale the candle, holding it in place.

Since pillars use more wax, they are relatively more expensive than tapers. To make the best use of them you will need to maintain them lightly during and after use so you can enjoy them for many hours. We have included here some tips and important safety recommendations.

Most pillar candles require a little maintenance to burn properly. To avoid a “tunneling” effect, burn your pillar candle for at least 2-3 hours at a time. Do not move while burning. To reduce smoking and dripping, you must trim wick to 1/4”.

It is highly recommended to use a wick trimmer (candles scissors) that snips the wick cleanly, allowing wick debris to fall into the catcher. To ensure even sidewalls, use a metal stick to frequently center the wick and keep wax pool clean.

Hug Your Pillar Hugging a candle is not about showing affection to your favorite illuminating devices - although many of us LOVE our candles! Easier than you might think, candle hugging keeps your pillar flat topped and burning evenly. These tips offers the most effective way of doing it: 1. Extinguish the candle flame. The candle melt pool will still be liquid and may be hot, so use caution.

2. While candle sits on a flat, level surface, gently press the sidewalls in toward the wick. The easiest way is to apply pressure at one point on the side of the candle and rotate the candle, pressing in evenly as you rotate. The objective is to make the sides of the candle slightly taller than the melt pool of the candle.

As you press the candle sidewall in, the law of displacement will cause the melt pool to “rise”.

3. If the candle has tunneled, it may be necessary to trim off the excess sidewall above the melt pool in order to begin again with a flat top pillar. Trim to roughly 1/2 inch above the melt pool, then hug as indicated.

WARNINGS: Remove all packaging and labeling materials. To prevent fire or injury, burn candles within sight and away from drafts and anything flammable. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Burn candle on a protected, heat-resistant, non-porous leveled surface to catch molten wax. Extinguish when 1” of wax remains at the bottom. NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED!
