The new 15,400 sq. foot Equestrian Center, the first project of Phase 1 of the Capital Campaign, was completed. The center features a 12,000 sq. foot covered riding arena with bleachers, stalls, restrooms, office, tack area and feed storage.

By 2012 year end, contributions to Camp Fire's $10.7 million capital campaign to renovate Camp El Tesoro totaled $7.7 million.

First Texas Council was selected as one of ten Camp Fire councils in the nation for a 3-year pilot for THRIVE, a research-based youth development curriculum that will reflect the Camp Fire focus.

Camp Fire expanded its After School Program to Fort Worth ISD’s Charles E. Nash Elementary School.

The staff of the Child Development Center, which serves more than 80 infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, participated in Connect4Success, Camp Fire’s research-based social-emotional development curriculum.

Message from the Chairman of the Board and President/CEO

2012 Camp Fire Council Recognition

On behalf of the board of directors, we are pleased to present the council's 2012 Annual Report. In addition to financial information and a listing of Camp Fire's generous donors, the report highlights children, youth and child care professionals who participated in Camp Fire programs.

The Fort Worth Business Press named Ann Sheets as CFO of the Year - Nonprofits at its luncheon and awards ceremony on January 25.

It has been a year of growth both at First Texas and National Camp Fire. A significant change has been the introduction of a new national brand. This summer, after extensive market research, Camp Fire introduced a new logo and brand, as well as the Promise, which serves as the organization’s new mission statement. The new theme line, “Light the fire within” reflects key concepts of the Camp Fire movement: discovery, self-expression, inclusivity, and the opportunity for youth to find their “spark.”

At First Texas, the capital campaign to renovate and update Camp El Tesoro achieved a major milestone with completion of the new 15,400 sq. foot covered Equestrian Center, and construction was begun on El Tesoro's new dining hall complex which is scheduled to welcome 2013 summer campers.

At year end, the Campaign for El Tesoro steering committee, chaired by Tod Miller, reported that funding had been secured for four duplex cabins, as well as Phase II projects including re-purposing the Main Lodge, a new entrance, roads and low water crossing. A total of $7.7 million has been raised to date from numerous individuals, corporations and foundations who believe in the value of camp and outdoor education for children and youth.

Open to everyone and led by professional, caring adults using proven methods, Camp Fire First Texas continues to help children and youth develop their abilities and identify their passion and “sparks.” We appreciate Camp Fire’s generous donors, partners and volunteers and their commitment to the First Texas Council’s mission to “Light the fire within.”

Camp Fire board member Lauri Curtis Hadobas was recognized by the Fort Worth Business Press at its "Great Women of Texas" dinner on November 7 at the Fort Worth Club.

Pam and Reed Pigman were honored for their contributions to Camp Fire First Texas on November 7 at the National Philanthropy Day 32nd Annual Awards Ceremony at the Omni Hotel.

Camp Fire After School programs provided quality care and developmental activities to 1,014 children in Tarrant, Parker and Johnson counties.

Camp Fire provided professional training, education and support to 2,723 child care providers through 123 classes and workshops.

DeZavala and Diamond Hill Elementary schools were nominated for the 2011-2012 award as Fort Worth Independent School District's "Most Improved Site" for after school programming.

More than 4,500 children, youth and adults participated in Camp Fire’s resident camp, day camps, family camping, outdoor education and community use programs.

105 child care providers attended Camp Fire’s Early Childhood Management Institute to prepare for their Texas Director’s License credential.

An 11-member team from the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps completed eight weeks of service on projects ranging from painting to brush removal at Camp El Tesoro.

Camp Fire, in partnership with Rainwater Charitable Foundation, launched “Excel for Success,” an education initiative aimed at preparing children for school through enhanced early care.

First Texas implemented Camp Fire’s new logo and tagline. The new branding was introduced by the national office to differentiate Camp Fire from other agencies and establish relevancy with youth and families.

180 child care professionals participated in the Child Development Associate program, a 120-hour/40-week credentialing program.

Net proceeds from the 2012 An Artists’ Christmas gala and art auction provided more than $160,000 for Camp Fire programs that help children and youth develop lifelong leadership skills and teach them to respect and enjoy the outdoors.

Through the Step Up school completion program, Camp Fire provided individualized attention to 83 at-risk area high school students to help keep them actively engaged in school.
