#19524 DAWN GAY Presented at the Final Banquet on August 19, 2016 by Endy Perry #20764 Awarded every summer at the final banquet, the Last Whistle Dedication is one of the highest honors one can be awarded at Camp Dudley. Each summer, the dedication is awarded to an individual who has shown an exemplary commitment and love towards this place we all cherish, going above and beyond what is expected of them to make this place even better than it already is. I am privileged to be standing before you now to award this prestigious honor to someone who, just like the esteemed group of recipients who preceded them, has had a profound impact on the lives of every person here tonight. Tonight’s honoree is someone that works very hard behind the scenes. While they don’t stand up at the microphone and make announcements, don’t sing and dance on the Witherbee stage, and don’t coach, ref, or play in any sports, this individual is still essential to Camp’s success. This person is described by those who work with them as someone who “knows everything about everything;” when it comes to Dudley’s daily operations, there isn’t a question they cannot answer. Tonight’s honoree is nicknamed the “Office Know-it-All” because they simply know everything that is going on at Camp.

with her son. Beginning as a member of the front office staff, she quickly began to take on more responsibility. Over the course of her time at Camp, she has fulfilled many jobs. During the offseason, she helps coordinate Open House and Reunion logistics. She also handles all transportation for Camp. Be it a train, a van, a car, or a plane, if you are traveling through camp, she knows about it. In 2008, she began working as the Database & Operations Manager. This position requires her to manage information on all campers while still help in day to day operations as an assistant to the director. When she is not working for camp, she enjoys running, gardening, and especially watching her boys play sports. She also volunteers in the Town of Westport even serving on the Town Zoning Board.

While her accomplishments and hard work are truly extraordinary, the thing that makes her stand out most of all is her character and devotion to others. Her sons: Nate, Anderson, and Jon agree that she always puts them before herself and is always working hard to support them. Her passion and pride also shows through her work as she is someone who never takes days off and is always working late. Her colleagues describe her as a hard worker and tremendous resource who never takes a break. Yet another summer has come to a close on Lake Champlain. By the time you are reading this note, the school year will be in full swing and Dudley will be but a distant memory. The Last Whistle is published each year to remind you of the place that was such a big part of your life not that long ago. It’s goal: to remind you of the friendships and the memories that you made. This book is a part of camp that you can take with you wherever you go, just like “The Other Fellow First.” Maybe you are reading this book many years after it was written and are trying to remember the special feeling you once knew. Perhaps you have just discovered this book from an old box in the attic and are trying to figure out what it is. No matter what your reason may be for opening the Last Whistle, you find yourself fumbling through a piece of history. The unique thing about the Last Whistle is that every person reads it differently. No matter who you are, the words and the pictures mean something different to us all. There are not many other books out there quite like this one where the story varies based on the reader. It is yet another part of Camp Dudley that makes it such a special place. As editor of the Last Whistle, it is my pleasure to welcome you back to the 132nd summer. Rather than make another yearbook, I wanted to create an experience for you. You may need to fill in the blanks but hopefully this work does justice to the magic of camp. There are many people that I have to thank for their contributions with-

out which this book would not be possible. I must recognize the many contributing photographers who submitted excellent shots of their experiences at camp. These individuals are listed on the front page and are owed credit where it is due. Next, a very special thanks to all of the camp program staff that opened up their areas and created photo-worthy moments. Of course, thank you to my fellow leaders who helped organize the wacky cabin photos you will see. Thank you to the hike hut staff, headed by Colin Loher, for helping to get images from hikes and canoe trips. Thanks to Willa McKinley for sharing her gift of making campers smile in her photos. From the Editor: Stewardship If you know me, you know that I like to think. I really enjoyed and appreciated Ryan Kelley's chapel talk yesterday morning because it encouraged all of us to thinkâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;in particular, to think outside of the confines of the clichĂŠs and platitudes we use to describe camp. That talk helped open my mind to a wider way of thinking about Dudley, and I hope it did the same for you. In response to Ryan's message, I have a follow-up question. Those of you who heard my chapel talk during the first session may remember that I talked a bit about stewardship, which is one of our four core values at Dudley. Stewardship means the prudent management of something entrusted to our care, and it calls on us to carefully preserve what needs preserving while letting other things change. My question is this: how will you be a steward of Dudley during the off-season? Since I started my editorial in the first DD of the summer talking about The Lord of the Rings, it seems appropriate to return there now. The word "steward" may make some of you fellow nerds think of Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, and I'd like to briefly play with a comparison of Dudley to Gondor.

There are no armies of orcs and trolls assembling in the shadows of Vermont to besiege camp (at least as far as I know); on the contrary, things at Dudley are pretty terrific. However, it's important to remember that there's always room for improvement. I'd like to challenge everyone not to fall into the trap of Denethor's mindset: he convinces himself that everything in Gondor is fine and sits around moping in a fur coat all day. While fur coats are comfortable and warm, I think we can strive for better, especially as Dudleyites. I challenge you to be willing to think critically about yourself and the way you contribute to camp. No matter your age, take setting goals and working toward them sersiously. If we all focus on self-improvement, we will help improve the community that forms a significant part of ourselves. Returning to my question, I encourage you to think about what you will tell people about Dudley during the school year. Will you call camp your "home away from home," or will you describe it as a place where you are challenged to think and grow and to contribute to a community...as something more deeply personal and beautifully complex?

DUDLEY DOINGS An Interview with #24435: Charlie Payne By Henry Art #24204, Kiernan Keller #23872, & Will Muccia #23898 This week, the Plebe DD Majors had the chance to interview a staff member of their choice. They prepared a list of original questions and then asked them while conducting the interview and taking notes. Here is a summary of their conversation with sailing instructor Charlie Payne, with whom they chose to sit down. DD: How did you learn about Camp Dudley? CP: My brother worked at Kiniya for two years a couple of years back, and he found out about that through a program called Camp Leaders. In England we have these things called Camp Leaders or Camp America where they send out people around my age to camps in America to get some experience working in a different environment with a different culture, which is interesting. He ended up at Kiniya, and then last year I tried to apply, but I couldn’t because my university dates didn’t match up. And then I tried to apply again this year to Kiniya, and they didn’t have any job vacancies. So Marnie put me in touch with Evan, and that’s how I found out about Dudley. And here I am.

Gillis. Though he’s not here anymore this summer, he would be my bro. DD: If you had 100 million dollars/pounds, and you could only buy three things, what would you buy? CP: Well, if I had 100 million pounds, I’m not sure how far it would get me now, because of the Brexit. I’m not sure how much I would buy. I think the first thing I would buy would be a swimming pool, like a big one. Yeah, at least like 25 meters long, that would be cool. Then the next thing would probably be a boat. And then I would have to buy a car. I don’t have a car yet.

DD: How did you launch your sailing career? CP: My dad was always a really keen sailor. He was in the navy for the better part of ten years. So when I was six or seven, he put me into small, two-man boats with some older kids, and I sailed for like, maybe five or six years in those. Then I moved on to bigger boats like Lasers and started sailing in things with my brothers like RS200s, things like that. I did a few races and enjoyed it. DD: How do you feel about your coworkers here?

DD: What kind of car? CP: I’m not sure. I quite like the bigger ones, like Jeeps or Range Rovers. They’re kind of cool. I would probably buy one of those, yeah.

CP: I love my coworkers. They’re so, so cool. Bill looks after us down here; he’s taught me everything I need to know. He’s really cool, and Sarah’s awesome as well. She’s really fun to hang around with, and every other staff member at camp is just awesome—they’re just really cool dudes.

DD: What’s your favorite boat?

DD: If you had a boat, who would be your bro to take on it?

DD: What’s your favorite British candy?

CP: If I had a boat, who would be my bro to take on it…There are so many people here that I could take, but if I had to choose it would have to be the one and only Charlie

CP: My favorite boat is probably a Laser. Or a 49er. You’ll see the 49ers in the Olympics in just a couple of weeks. They are awesome. They’re big and they have these trapezes on them. And they’re just awesome to watch.

CP: My favorite British candy is definitely Cadbury Dairy Milk. If you’ve never tried it, I would highly recommend trying to track it down somewhere in America and definitely taste it. It’s better than any American chocolate

I’ve ever tried—no offense. DD: If you could switch jobs with anybody at Dudley, who would it be? CP: Wow, I don’t know. Everyone here works so hard. I would probably go for something like working in the A-Hut. It seems like they have quite a cool job working with loads of different sports. I’d enjoy that, I think. They also have really cool outfits, like the Dudley shirts. We’re trying to make a boathouse one, but it’s pending at the moment. DD: And last. Why are there so many flags on the BoHo flagpole? CP: Ok, so this is a funny story. Bill had an American flag, and I thought that since we have a British person here and there are a couple of others here— like Diana—it would be best to maybe put up another flag—a British flag—underneath. Although I didn’t know it would be bigger than the American flag. I’ve apologized for that repeatedly. I agreed to leave the US flag on top, that was just courtesy; that’s fine. So I put it below the US flag, and then that was fine. And then a camper from Amherst in the first session thought it would be funny to put an Australian flag beneath the British flag, which was funny. And then Sarah from Swim Point decided to get a Canadian flag and put it beneath the Australian flag, which makes the flagpole pretty crowded. But it looks really nice. So if you have any other international flags, we’ll put them up for you. DD: One more question we’ve always wanted to ask: do they ever talk about the American Revolution in Britain? CP: I think you’d be surprised—not really. It’s not a great era in our history, not one we’re particularly proud of. I remember learning about it once when I was maybe thirteen. I mean, our side of the story’s not great, I don’t think. But you know, it’s a big part of your history and I’d like to learn more about it.

So maybe there are no dragons at Dudley. So what if Sheila is a nurse removing splinters and not a Maester treating grayscale and wild fire burns. Fine, the NOLS campers aren’t actually “taking the black:” they just get black jackets. Who cares. The simple fact of the matter is that the conflict for power exists at Camp Dudley, even if it may not be apparent to all. While Dudley has enjoyed seven years of Matt Storey, first of his name and protector of the realm, Game of Thrones has shown us that power can change hands rather quickly. So, theoretically speaking, should a battle ensue for the Iron Golf Cart, who would be the contenders? The War of the Five Kings saw the kingdom of Westeros be divided as houses declared for their lords. To whom would you pledge your sword? Lord Mark of House Davenport, Warden of the Arts A man who has held many titles over the years, Lord Mark now commands the Art Kingdoms. In its many years of existence, the walls at the castle of Witherbee have never been breached. As a former Hand of the Director, Lord Mark holds many connections in other departments. Lord Evan of House George, Hand of the Director As the advisor the director, Lord Evan sits atop the small council. He has great experience and commands the respect of leaders from all over the lands. His use of modules allows him to spread information quickly. Ser Fred of House Guffey, Lord Commander of the Office and Master of Coin Ser Fred has served as Lord Commander of the Office honorably for many years. His soldiers are fiercely loyal to him. He also controls the radio network and can use these ravens to carry his message to all. In addition, Ser Fred is the most experienced battle commander at camp and can lead his army to victory. Lastly, Ser Fred serves as the Master of Coin and is able to fund his claim better than others. Lord Dave of House Langston, Master of Development and Leadership Funds His many titles makes him a very formidable opponent. Lord Dave holds many alumni connections to former Dudley houses that would rally to his cause. He also commands the Sept of Chapel and can spread his word to all who would listen. Finally, his Leadership Fund would make him self-financing and allow him to purchase better weapons for his men. Lord Dylan of House McCann, Vice Warden of the Juniors While Lord Dylan might have the weakest claim to the Iron Golf Cart, the backing of his family makes him a strong contender. After his eldest brother, Dave, renounced all claims to Dudley, Lord Dylan became the leader of his house. Lord Dylan’s connections in the Juniors and his younger brother Jack’s connections in the Plebes suggest that Lord Dylan may have the strongest army to fight for his claim. In the end, the one who has the support of the campers will prevail. As long as our director, Matt Storey, has the love of his people, the other lords and knights will remain at bay.

Max Patterson, an infamous thief and doer of evil, has committed his latest sinister deed. Rensselaer Cabin’s incredible Aide Jack Dove woke up at 6:30 and sprinted to Beckman to get sugar cereal for his cubs, who had pestered him all night for Frosted Flakes in the morning. However, even though he worked so hard to make his campers happy, evil turned breakfast into a disappointment. Max Patterson, wearing a black mask and camouflage pants, tip-toed through Beckman, looked to see if the coast was clear, and decisively snatched the delicious cereal from Rensselaer table. As the Renny Boys glumly munched on their hard boiled eggs, Max Patterson was eating handfuls of Frosted Flakes and cackling as his campers asked him to share. So you tell me: is Max Patterson evil?

Saturday night after a brilliant performance in the show, Jack McDonough was drinking some warm milk and singing lullabies to his campers when he suddenly heard screams for help from the mountains. He quickly sprinted up the mountain with amazing grace and speed, his mind racing. As he neared the top of the mountain, he saw a family of four with two babies being chased by a monstrous bear at the peak of the mountain. With great precision, he raced to the site of the attack and went to work. Fending off the bear with his bare hands, he scooped up all four of the terrified civilians and carried them off the mountain to safety. He was awarded a medal from the President for his bold and courageous acts of honor.

Good morning, Camp Dudley. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Willa McKinley and I live in Adams, that forbidden cabin that stands to the left of maintenance. When I was writing this chapel talk I was trying to figure out how many years I’ve worked at Dudley and I settled on that this is my 6th consecutive year at camp. But I think that number fails to represent the 21 years I’ve spent year-round in these gates. This morning I’d like to talk to you all about perspective, and first I’m going to share a fictional story that I found on the internet:

Adams and also at my permanent residence just 5 miles from here, I come before pre-season starts and I stay later than the last CDA reunion-goer, because I am a local. As you can see, my perspective of Camp Dudley is probably very different from all of yours, and I’d like to focus on the two reasons that stand out the most to me; being a girl at an allboys camp, and being a local.

“Once upon a time, five blind men came upon an elephant. “What is this?” asked the first one, who had run head first into its side. “It’s an elephant.” said the elephant’s keeper, who was sitting on a stool, cleaning the elephant’s harness. “Wow, so this is an Elephant! I’ve always wondered what Elephants are like.” said the man, running his hands as far as he could reach up and down the elephant’s side. “Why, it’s just like a wall, a large, warm wall!” “What do you mean, a wall?” said the second man, wrapping his arms around the elephant’s leg. “This is nothing like a wall. You can’t reach around a wall! This is more like a pillar. Yeah, that’s it, an elephant is exactly like a pillar!” “A pillar? Strange kind of pillar!” said the third man, stroking the elephant’s trunk. “It’s too thin, for one thing, and it’s too flexible for another. If you think this is a pillar, I don’t want to go to your house! This is more like a snake. See, it’s wrapping around my arm. An elephant is just like a snake!” “Snakes don’t have hair!” said the fourth man in disgust, pulling the elephant’s tail. “You are closer than the others, but I’m surprised that you missed the hair. This isn’t a snake, it’s a rope. Elephants are exactly like ropes.” “I don’t know what you guys are on!” the fifth man cried, waving the elephant’s ear back and forth. “It’s as large as a wall, all right, but thin as a leaf, and no more flexible than any piece of cloth this size should be. I don’t know what’s wrong with all of you, but no one except a complete idiot could mistake an elephant for anything except a sail!” And as the elephant moved on, they stumbled along down the road, arguing more vehemently as they went, each sure that he, and he alone, was right and all the others were wrong”

Well, the obvious differences are I’ve never been a leader, I’ve never been a camper. But I’ve also never coached a team here, I’ve never run an extravaganza or council ring, and perhaps most obviously I am only an observer of the friendships you create amongst the leaders and with your campers.

Now, I want you to picture camp as this elephant and all of you as the blind men. Similar to the story of the elephant, your individual perspectives of camp probably differ depending on who you are and where you come from, but you’re all experiencing a common elephant, that of Camp Dudley. Perhaps many of you share a very similar perspective of coming to camp that goes something like this- you were 10.5 when you made the long drive thru the Adirondacks to the upper fields, there you received the name of a cabin where you would spend the next 3.5 weeks and where your mom made your bed for you, for the first and the last time your bed was ever neat that summer…and the rest is history as you are all here today. Today however, I want to offer you my perspective. In many ways, I represent everything that Camp Dudley is not. I am not a boy, my first time at camp was not when I was a 10.5 year old cub, I do not experience the dreadful ride home from camp that Connor Smith so accurately described in his 2014 chapel talk, I started working at camp a year younger than staff members are typically hired, I have a bed in both

Some of you may be wondering, what is it like being a female working at Dudley?

As for being a local and working at camp? I see camp with the glowing buzz of summer and happy campers, contrasted with the silent, snowy whiteness of winter. For most of you, Dudley is probably the extent to which you know Westport, yet from a local’s perspective camp is literally its own civilization, cut off from the rest of Westport (although this is changing as Dudley gets more involved in the local community). Camp brings heavy business and money 6 days out of the year (including opening day, changeover, and closing day) as the Inns and bed and breakfasts are bustling with eager parents. Thus, as a local Camp Dudley is a limb to a whole body, a small part of a much bigger culture that extends into a community, into a county, into the Adirondacks, and into the world. For many of you, camp is the beginning and the end here in Westport; for locals there is a bigger world right here in this small town. My perspective of Dudley is heavily influenced by who I am and the fact that I grew up here. Because of who I am, I will have a different summer here than all of you. But, similar to the lesson in the story of the elephant, that doesn’t make any one summer better or worse or any one perception of camp right or wrong. By offering you my perspective, I give you another piece of the elephant, the eye let’s say. This year at camp I urge you to discover a unique perspective of camp or your own piece of the elephant, one that is created by your individual experiences. In 3 days you will meet 300 boys who will all have their own ideas of camp, help them create their stories and evolve their experiences. As you open your mind to the perceptions of fellow leaders, campers, and staff members, piece by piece and story by story you work toward a bird’s eye view of the whole elephant. I’d like to conclude with a quote from JK Rowling so please bow your heads, “The world is full of wonderful things you haven’t seen yet. Don’t ever give up on the chance of seeing them.” Amen.

CHAPEL TALKS

AIDAN MORAN

Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong. I have a hard time making friends since I don’t get out much and I’d prefer strangers not to walk into my house to introduce themselves to me. That would be annoying and probably scary. Sometimes prosthelytizers come to my door and I carry on a conversation with them because it is fun. I can’t tell if they enjoy the conversation because maybe I’m giving them false hope with no intention of going to their church. Maybe they enjoy a conversation on a topic for which they care deeply, or maybe they would be annoyed that I’m just wasting their time. I don’t know. My first year at college I was invited to a pickup Ultimate Frisbee game and I went along because I had nothing else to do. I had a pretty good time playing with everyone even though their Frisbee skills were lacking. At the end of the game they invited me over to hang out with them and at that point I was in the mindset to do things instead of to not do things. So we drove over to their friends house a while away from the school. It was a modest apartment in a modest apartment complex and we walked in and there were several people inside. I guess I assumed there would mostly be college age people in this group of friends, but that was not the case. There was a nice family made up of a couple who were in their late twenties and their baby, as well as a couple other cousins or something my memory of the event is a little hazy at this point. We were inside for a while and had all introduced ourselves when they started talking about their church to me and all the other guys who were in the car. I didn’t realize this was coming, and maybe I missed a lot of signs, but anyway they were also trying to convert me. Soon after they started talking about their church I realized that I was the only white person in this room, and they were trying to get me into their Korean church. I wanted to leave, but I didn’t want to be rude, so I stayed. They were also offering me dinner as well, and that was a huge part of why I stayed. I chatted with all of the people in the room, and they kept asking me where I’m from and I told them Bronxville, New York, and all of them thought that was the Bronx. I remember at one point it sort of went from a bunch of small conversations to one big conversation, and they all talked about how I was from the Bronx. They kept saying things like, “Oh wow that’s like a dangerous place, right?” and I would say, “Well I don’t know but actually Bronxville is different from the Bronx and it’s really not dangerous.” But then they would bring it up again and I would tell them Bronxville is not the Bronx again.

disappointed because one round was words starting with “H” for “reasons to miss school” and I said hijinks, but the guy judging didn’t count it. Anyway, eventually someone gave the people living on campus a ride home. That was not my first college party, it was my second. It was really weird but a really great memory for me. All of that happened because on that day I was up for anything. I was super uncomfortable several times during that day, but in the end I’m really glad I did it. It can feel so easy for me, and I’m sure for a lot of people, to sit around and do things that you are used to. At home, I’m a real lazy bones and I don’t do anything. At camp, I am less of a lazy bones, and I do some things. Camp is not that long and there are so many opportunities to create memories. We’re already halfway through this session, Camp is deceptively short. It can feel like too much to do so many things every day without resting, but there’s time to rest later. Rarely do you look back on the times you rested and think, “That was an awesome thing I’ll remember forever.” I do look back at interesting experiences though and enjoy those memories, whether in the moment they were fun, miserable, or just strange. Please bow your heads. In the words of Sufjan Stevens, “When I die, I’ll rot. But when I live, I’ll give it all I’ve got.” Amen.

When dinner started they all kept telling me to try the Kimchi because it’s really good. We were all kneeling around a short, long table and they all stared at me as I ate the Kimchi. It was good Kimchi so thankfully I didn’t have to fake a reaction. Anyway it was a strange dinner and I was ready to go home, but then everyone decided to play Scattergories, which is a fun game. I was pretty

BRIAN DEGEN

Sometimes when I’m home alone by myself, I cover myself in Vaseline and pretend that I’m a slug. Now that I’ve got your attention…suh dudes. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Brian Degen and I’m the leader in Danielson cabin. One of my former campers mentioned to me that I should use lots of big, confusing words in this chapel talk because I have precocious vocabulary, but not to worry, I can elucidate upon the message of this talk without prose that’s particularly sesquipedalian. Some fun facts about me: I play division one collegiate lacrosse at Princeton University…on the club team; I am one of only a few leaders left with a number beginning in “19”; and, by the end of this summer, I will have spent just about a year of my life on Dudley’s beautiful campus. This is my ninth summer at Dudley, and my twelfth session. And I’ve got to say – it makes me feel pretty old. Now I’m no Dylan McCann but having a “19” camp number definitely ages you a bit. For some context, Dylan McCann’s first summer at Dudley was before some of my cubbie campers were even born. As I mentioned earlier, I have spent about a year of my life here at Dudley. It had always been so easy for me to decide to return to camp for another summer. I’m sure many of you feel the same way; it really isn’t that tough of a decision to come back to camp. I mean why wouldn’t you. There’s tons of fun stuff to do here, everybody lives in the spirit of the motto, and not to mention you get to see Raji’s smiling face everyday. Seems like a pretty easy choice to make. For me, however, it was very tough to decide whether I would come back to camp this year. You see, at my school, everybody is incredibly competitive and there is a strong emphasis on landing a good summer internship so you can prepare yourself for the real world. The immense pressure from students and faculty alike finally got to me, and the next month or so was one of the most stressful of my life. On top of an intense, more advanced course load and the time-consuming process of joining my fraternity and eating club, I was now tasked with filling out several applications

and interviewing with investment banks and consulting firms, all while also dealing with the crippling indecision of whether or not I should continue bothering with his or just return to Dudley. Hopefully you guys are getting the picture – that was not a fun period of my life. So you guys might be asking yourself “Degen, what does this have to do with us? Shouldn’t you be making us feel good seeing as this is the end of camp?” Well that’s an excellent question, Camp Dudley – I’m glad you asked. In a few short hours, parents will arrive and before you know it, you’re going to be on your way home. You will soon get caught up in the multitude of issues we don’t have to deal with here – the most frightening of which is having to deal with the horrible plague known as cooties. The paradise we have lived in for the past few weeks will soon feel incredibly distant. I want to encourage you all to remember Dudley; remember the goals you accomplished, the friends you made, and the things you learned. Remember all the fun you had here. And really cherish it. Because there may come a time where it won’t be so easy to come back. Life will get in the way, and things like summer internships or intensive sports camps may make the decision to return impossible to make. It’s situations like these where you should remember this place most. That’s what I did, and that’s the main reason why I’m back for another summer. And I couldn’t be happier. So, as the summer swiftly comes to a close, hold on to the unforgettable experience you had this summer. If you ever feel stressed, overwhelmed, or just a little down, Dudley will provide you with the pick-me-up you need. Write a letter to one of your buddies; flip through the Last Whistle; scream Battle Hymn of the Republic at the dinner table for crying out loud. This place is amazing, and there is no reason it should be a part of our life for only the four or eight weeks we spend up here. Keep Dudley in your life year-round – especially when it comes time to deciding whether or not you should return. Lastly, I want to say thanks for a great summer boys. Each and every one of you played a part in making this summer unforgettable. I truly hope I will find myself back here next year and I want to see all of you back here too. Oh and by the way, I’m totally kidding about the Vaseline covered slug thing – I stopped doing that after I graduated high school. Please bow your heads. May Dudley live in the hearts of us men 24/7 Because when we get down to brass tacks, this place is practically heaven Amen.

History of the Award

The 1885’er is awarded to Dudley campers, leaders, and staff following the completion of their fourth summer at Camp. It was started following the addition of Camp Kiniya as a compliment to the “Kiwi Award.” When individuals are presented with the award, they receive an exclusive “1885” Dudley tie to wear on Parents Weekend in recognition of their accomplishment and their dedication to camp.
