ABUELAS DE LA PLAZA DE MAYO
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

This is a commemorative place for a group of women who have joined together in order to reunite with their missing children and grandchildren, known as “the disappeared” . The symbol of the White Scarf Movement is important to them and has inspired the roof structure of this building. This space will serve as a way to share their story with others in celebrating the work that they have accomplished as well as a reverence towards the brokenness they still feel for the disappeared children they have not found.
The form of this site begins on the ground with rigid stones commemorating each of the missing children and mothers. These move into the vertical wood pieces that provide a connection to the flowing rooftops , representative of the peace that some grandmothers have been able to obtain through their actions.
