RIJKSMUSEUM VAN OUDHEDEN In het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden geniet jong en oud van de archeologische rijkdommen en intrigerende cultuur van de Egyptenaren, de Klassieke Wereld, het oude Nabije Oosten en het vroege Nederland.

Je ontdekt er de fascinerende wereld van de farao’s, Grieken, Etrusken en Romeinen, neemt er een kijkje in een èchte Egyptische tempel, staat oog in oog met majestueuze keizerbeelden en geniet van eeuwenoude verfijnde juwelen.

‘Al 200 jaar van nu’ Het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden bestaat tweehonderd jaar en dat wordt gevierd met de jubileumtentoonstelling ‘Al 200 jaar van nu’. Wandel door twee eeuwen museumgeschiedenis aan de hand van opmerkelijke gebeurtenissen en bijzondere objecten.

‘200 years of present time’ The Rijksmuseum van Oudheden will celebrate its 200th anniversary with the exhibition ‘Al 200 jaar van nu’ (200 years of present time). Stroll through two centuries of museum history, illustrated by accounts of remarkable events and extraordinary objects.

CORPUS ‘journey through the human body’ The experience of the human body

In CORPUS beleef je in 55 minuten een spectaculaire ‘reis door de mens’! Maak in het 5D-harttheater een duizelingwekkende ‘reis’ als rood bloedlichaampje, spring op de tong, loop door het oor, verwonder je in de hersenen en verbaas je over je eigen fantastische lichaam. Begeleid door een audiotour – beschikbaar in 8 talen – beleef je in groepen van maximaal 16 personen de ‘reis door de mens’. Na de ‘reis’ leer je nog meer over het eigen lichaam en het belang van Veel bewegen, Verantwoord eten en Gezond leven in ‘mijn CORPUS’, het interactieve gedeelte.

Hier vind je een schat aan extra informatie over het menselijk lichaam. Je kunt in ‘mijn CORPUS’ ook een leuke & leerzame speurtocht doen. Een gemiddeld bezoek aan CORPUS duurt 2,5 - 3 uur. CORPUS is geschikt voor jong én oud! Adviesleeftijd vanaf 8 jaar, minimumleeftijd 6 jaar.

CORPUS is a spectacular 55-minute ‘journey through the human body’! Enter the 5D heart theatre and embark on the amazing ‘journey’ of a red blood cell, jump on the tongue, stroll through the ear, be amazed in the brain and be prepared to be surprised about your own, fantastic body. Guided by an audio tour (available in eight languages), in groups up to 16 persons, you will experience the ‘journey through the human body’. After the ‘journey’, you will go on to learn about the importance of lots of exercise, responsible nutrition and healthy living in ‘my CORPUS’, the interactive section of the experience.

Here, you will find a wealth of additional information about the human body. In ‘my CORPUS’, you can also take part in a fun and interesting quest. The average visiting time for CORPUS is 2,5 to 3 hours. CORPUS is a fun experience for young and old! Advised age: from 8 years, minimum age: 6 years.

JAPAN MUSEUM SIEBOLDHUIS

Japanmuseum SieboldHuis biedt het mooiste uit Japan in een Hollands historisch huis. Bekijk de prenten, fossielen, keramiek, geprepareerde dieren, oude landkaarten en andere schatten die in de 19de eeuw verzameld zijn door de Beierse arts Philipp Franz von Siebold. Bezoek ook de tijdelijke tentoonstellingen waarin Japanse kunst en cultuur te bewonderen zijn in Siebolds voormalige woonhuis.

Japan museum SieboldHuis offers Japan’s finest in a Dutch historic residence. Admire the prints, fossils, ceramics, animals, maps and other treasures that were collected by the Bavarian doctor Philipp Franz von Siebold during the 19th century. Also visit the temporary exhibitions that feature Japanese art and culture in Siebold’s former residence.

Een tentoonstelling van Charlotte Dumas 8 juni tot en met 25 november 2018 Ervaar de bijzondere band tussen mens en paard, door Japanse prenten, objecten, nieuwe foto’s en film van Dumas over Yuzu en haar paard Urala, dat tot een met uitsterven Japans paardenras behoort.

Museum De Lakenhal is hét museum voor kunst, kunstnijverheid en geschiedenis van de stad Leiden. Tot de hoogtepunten uit de collectie behoren werken van oude meesters als Lucas van Leyden, Rembrandt van Rijn en Jan Steen, maar ook van moderne kunstenaars als Theo van Doesburg, Jan Wolkers en Erwin Olaf. Museum De Lakenhal maakt betekenisvolle tentoonstellingen van (inter)nationaal belang op basis van Leidse bronnen.

Het museum profileert zich als een vernieuwend netwerkmuseum en verbindt heden en verleden door bezoekers te inspireren met oude en nieuwe gezichtspunten.

Museum De Lakenhal is the museum for art, crafts and the history of the city of Leiden. Highlights from its collection are works of Old Masters such as Lucas van Leyden, Rembrandt van Rijn and Jan Steen, but also of modern artists such as Theo van Doesburg, Jan Wolkers and Erwin Olaf. Museum De Lakenhal creates meaningful exhibitions of (inter)national significance, based on sources from Leiden. Restauratie & uitbreiding Museum De Lakenhal is momenteel gesloten in verband met restauratie en uitbreiding. Het museum opent naar verwachting in het voorjaar van 2019 haar deuren weer voor publiek. Vanaf de heropening wordt de collectie in een vernieuwde presentatie getoond in de oude ‘Laecken-Halle’. In de nieuw gebouwde tentoonstellingszalen wordt vanaf de heropening een speciale presentatie ingericht rond de restauratie en uitbreiding, met fotowerken van Karin Borghouts en Marjan Teeuwen.

Restoration & Expansion Museum De Lakenhal is temporarily closed due to restoration and expansion work. The museum is expected to open its doors to the public once again in the Spring of 2019, exhibiting its collection in a new setting in the old ‘Laecken-Halle’. The new exhibition halls will offer a special exhibition which tells the story of the restoration and expansion, including photographs by Karin Borghouts and Marjan Teeuwen.

Museum Volkenkunde is een museum over mensen.

In het monumentale pand aan de Singel te Leiden presenteert het museum regelmatig wisselende exposities. De vaste tentoonstelling bevat objecten uit acht cultuurgebieden. Voorwerpen die stuk voor stuk een menselijk verhaal vertellen. Van Oceanië tot de Noordpoolgebieden en van Geisha tot de Boeddha.

In het WereldLAB, de speciaal ingerichte kinderruimte, kunnen kinderen met een interactief spel hun eigen ideale wereld vormgeven. In Museum Volkenkunde ontdek je dat we ondanks de verschillen, allemaal hetzelfde zijn.

Museum Volkenkunde is a museum about people. The museum is located in a historic building just five minutes’ walk from Leiden Central Station. Museum Volkenkunde regularly organises different exhibitions and its permanent display shows objects from eight different cultural regions and all objects have a story to tell about humankind. In de tentoonstelling GIF! kom je heel veel levende, giftige dieren tegen. Maar ook planten en mineralen kunnen giftig zijn. Waarom? En hoe werkt gif eigenlijk?

Freek en zijn collega-onderzoekers leren je meer over het nut en de noodzaak van onderzoek naar gif.

Er is natuurlijk ook van alles te doen: sta met je neus bovenop een bijzondere gif-demonstratie, maak je eigen maaltijd van paddenstoelen of kruip in de huid van Freek.

Poison expert Freek Vonk, Ph.D, brings you along into the world of poison. At the POISON! exhibition you’ll encounter many living animals. But plants an minerals can also be poisonous. Why? And how does their (often deadly!) poison work? Our researchers will teach you more about the usefulness and need for research into poison. Of course, there is also plenty to do! Get up close to a special poison demonstration or make your own meal of mushrooms. Visit the POISON! exhibition now, in the former entrance building of Naturalis. Bloot of bedekt tot en met 27 mei 2018 Wat is bloot? Een onthulde enkel, een been, van top tot teen? Tussen bedekken en onthullen bestaan vele nuances. Ieder mens heeft daarover zijn eigen opvattingen.

Persoonlijke keuzen worden versterkt door culturele verschillen. En de blik van de buitenstaander is niet steeds waardenvrij. Dat ook de verbeelding niet altijd met de werkelijkheid strookt, is te zien in de foto’s, boeken en prenten op deze tentoonstelling. Naakt als protest, als straf, als viering van de vrijheid, als religieus gebod of als teken van onschuld, het komt allemaal aan bod.

Naked or covered until 27 May 2018 What is nudity? Is it an exposed ankle, a bare leg, being stark naked? There are numerous subtle distinctions between being covered or uncovered, and there are as many opinions as there are people. Personal choices are reinforced by cultural differences. The gaze of the observer is not always objective, either. The fact that our imagination, too, is not always in line with reality, becomes obvious from the photographs, books and prints in this exhibition. Nudity as a form of protest, or punishment, as a celebration of freedom, as a religious rule or as a sign of innocence, this exhibition seeks to explore it all.

Maar ze zijn zoveel meer. Het zijn objecten die kunnen ontroeren of juist tot woede aanzetten. Een miniatuur wordt verborgen achter een gordijntje, een onzedelijke afbeelding zit onder een klepje. Er valt van alles te ontdekken aan boeken, handschriften en beelden: verborgen afbeeldingen, beweegbare onderdelen, popup voorstellingen. Touching Treasures 7 June until 9 September 2018 A letter, written in blood or stained with tears: books, prints or photographs, they exist to be read or viewed.

But they are so much more. Objects that can move or enrage you. A miniature hidden behind a curtain, an indecent image under a lid. There is so much to be discovered about books, manuscripts and images: hidden depictions, moving parts, pop-up performances. This is the subject of the Touching Treasures exhibition, for those who love reading… and more.

Molenmuseum De Valk is een stellingmolen uit 1743.

Het is de laatste originele molen van de negentien die ooit op de Leidse stadswallen stonden. Als icoon van Leiden torent de molen boven de stad uit.

Mill museum De Valk (The Falcon) is a tower mill dating from 1743. It is the last of the original 19 mills that once stood on Leiden’s city ramparts. Like a true icon, the mill towers over the city.

Kom eens kijken in de molen. Beneden loop je de molenaarswoning binnen. De enige bewaard gebleven stadsmolenaarswoning in Nederland ademt nog de sfeer van rond 1900. Dwaal door de keuken, woonkamer en paardenstal. Na de dood van molenaar Willem van Rhijn in 1966 werd de molen pas een museum. Bezoek alle zeven verdiepingen en vorm je een beeld van het leven en werk van de molenaar van vroeger. Op de eerste verdieping draait de 4-talige film over de Leidse molens en de ontwikkeling en de werking van molens. Eenmaal op de omloop, heb je een prachtig uitzicht over de stad.

Een bezoek aan Molen De Valk in Leiden is geschikt voor kinderen en volwassenen. Voor rondleidingen en meer bezoekersinformatie kijk op de website.

Come and visit the mill. On the ground floor, you will enter the miller’s living quarters. It is the only preserved town miller’s residence in the Netherlands, and it still has the feel of the 1900s. Wander through the kitchen, living room and horse stables. The mill did not become a museum until after the death of miller Willem van Rhijn in 1966.

Visit all seven stories of the museum, and get an idea of the life and work of the miller back in the day. On the first floor you can watch a film (available in four languages) about the mills of Leiden and the way they were developed and operated. Once you get to the gallery, you will enjoy a splendid view of the city. A visit to Molen de Valk is an interesting outing for both adults and children. HORTUS BOTANICUS LEIDEN

De Hortus botanicus in Leiden is de oudste botanische tuin van Nederland. Hier kweekte Carolus Clusius de eerste tulpen en bracht Philipp Franz van Siebold meer dan 700 tot dan toe onbekende planten naar toe. Bezoekers kunnen genieten van de prachtige botanische collecties in de kassen en Chinese en Japanse tuin.

The Hortus botanicus in Leiden is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands. This is where Carolus Clusius cultivated the first tulips and where Philipp Franz von Siebold brought more than 700 previously unknown plants. Visitors can admire the beautiful botanical collections in the greenhouses and the Chinese and Japanese garden.

In 2018 staat de Hortus in het teken van voedselplanten. Bezoekers krijgen bij binnenkomst een soepenboekje met recepten van culinair journalist Onno Kleyn. In de tuin en kassen staan allerlei eetbare planten die we dagelijks in de keuken gebruiken. Heb je enige idee waar jouw kruidnagel en nootmuskaat vandaan komen? Of wat het verschil is tussen zwarte en witte peper? En hoe groeit vanille eigenlijk? Er gaat een culinaire wereld voor je open in de Leidse Hortus.

The Hortus will be dominated by edible plants in 2018. Upon arrival, visitors will receive a soup book with Onno Kleyn’s recipes, culinary journalist. The garden and greenhouses will show all kinds of edible plants that we often use on a daily basis in the kitchen.

Do you have any idea where your cloves and nutmeg come from? Or what the difference is between black and white pepper? And how vanilla actually grows?

A culinary world will open up for you in the Hortus in Leiden.

LEIDEN AMERICAN PILGRIM MUSEUM

Het Leiden American Pilgrim Museum vertelt het verhaal van Pilgrims in Leiden. Het museum is gevestigd in een oorspronkelijke 14de-eeuwse woning. Pilgrims woonden in Leiden van 1609 tot 1620. In 1620 vertrokken 35 pilgrims Leiden naar Plymouth in Engeland. Vanaf daar vervolgden ze hun weg aan boord van de Mayflower naar de nieuwe kolonies van Massachusetts. Het eerste oogstfestival dat men in de nieuwe kolonie vierde, wordt gezien als de oorsprong van Thanksgiving.

TThe Leiden American Pilgrim Museum was established to recreate the story related to the exile of all the Leiden Pilgrims. This museum was constructed in the oldest datable house in the Leiden area, which was built in the 14th century. Pilgrims lived in Leiden from 1609 to 1620.

In 1620, 35 pilgrims departed Leiden for Plymouth in England. From there, they sailed onward aboard The Mayflower to the new colonies of Massachusetts. The first harvest festival celebrated in the new colony is seen as the origin of Thanksgiving.

This is the place where the stories from the history of Leiden come together. With more than nine kilometres of centuries-old archive, 3,000 boxes of archaeological material and information about 2850 monuments.

Het ’Rembrandt Lokaal’ is een unieke stop op de Leidse Rembrandt route. In dit prachtige 17e eeuwse huis, leerde de jonge Rembrandt schilderen, tekenen en etsen. Binnen is een leuke Rembrandt souvenirwinkel te vinden en wordt de bezoeker meegenomen in een geweldige 7 minuten durende ‘video mapping’. Maak kennis met de jonge Rembrandt en de belangrijkste sleutelfiguren in zijn leven, zijn unieke talent en de toegepaste kunst van het maken en mengen van verf uit exotische mineralen. Een mooie terugblik op de eerste 25 jaar van het leven van één van de grootste meesters ooit.

The ’Rembrandt Lokaal’ is a unique stop on the Leiden Rembrandt route. This lovely 17th century house is where the young Rembrandt learned to paint, draw and etch. There is a unique Rembrandt souvenir shop inside and visitors are taken on an amazing 7-minute ‘video mapping.’ Meet the young Rembrandt and the most important key figures in his life, his unique talent and the applied art of creating and mixing paint from exotic minerals. A beautiful look back at the first 25 years of the life of one of the greatest masters of all time.
