History of the Mark While the overall style of the Max Factor logo has been pretty much the same over a considerable period of time, you can notice a couple of comparatively subtle updates. Max Factor was established in 1909 under the name of Max Factor & Company.

Today, it is part of Coty, Inc. In the current version, the stylized “X” follows the name of the brand, while in the previous it stood right in the middle of the wordmark. It replaced the “X” in the word “Max.” The glyphs have been updated, too. The most notable alteration can be seen in the “F” – the playful middle element of the previous design has been replaced by a regular horizontal bar. The list of less noticeable alterations includes the elongated ends of the “C,” for instance.

Mission & Vision MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to prepare and provide a stage for women and find different avenues that can attend to women’s confidence and empowerment.

VISION Max Factor is driven by equality and women empowerment. As a result, Max Factor aims to provide and prepare women for stage from an entrepreneurial stand point. Women perform in many stages on a daily basis, however, Max Factor divide these stages into three main categories which are home, work and social.

Rebranding Objective In the past Max factor began creating makeup and tools for it in the film industry. Max Factor’s goal was to achieve and create products that would enhance women’s features and prepare them for the stage they were performing on. Max Factor believed any woman could be glamorous when given the right tools.

OBJECTIVE The rebranding objective is to take the soul of these previous thoughts and visualize it from an entrepreneurial and career stand point. Max Factor’s goal is now to cater to women through products and services that will benefit them in their career and personal goals. We now prepare women intellectually while manifesting not just their beauty but their confidence, ambition and ability to adapt to different stages.

Logo Standards This section goes over the final new logo, its anatomy, alternative versions of the logo, and what not to do. It is very important to follow these guidelines in order to properly represent the brand and its signature.

The logo uses an abstract, minimal version of a crown which is incorporated in an elegant way to represent royalty, confidence and further promote women empowerment.

The idea of a crown also manifests a gem, which is what Max Factor believes every woman is, in their own and unique way.

The base of the logo is what holds the rest of the composition together, this represents the stage.

MAX FACTOR TYPEFACE Avenir Medium ALTERATIONS The wordmark of Max Factor, uses Avenir Medium, however, modified to have a higher X height. Additionally, the wordmark removes the crossbars in the letter “A” to achieve a more minimal and modern approach.

B&W Logo We will decide whether to use the black logo or the white logo based on logo size and background requirements. We divide it into ten levels based on brightness and grayscale. Enough contrast is important.

Logo Anatomy The overall composition of the logo is square on three sides. Keep this mark square and don’t be too small to ensure that this logo is shown distinctly and legibly. The wordmark under the symbol mark should be aligned with it.

Logo Clear Space Clear space refers to specific amount of space that a logo must have on all sides, no matter where it is used. It is to ensure that a logo maximizes visibility and impact. Here we use value “x” to define the clear space around the logo.

The value of X is determined by the determined intersection. Then applied to the sides to determine the width of the clear space on the sides. Then applied to the top and bottom margins to determine the height of the clear space needed around the logo.

The clear space comes from the width of the intersection marked “X” on the diagram. The width is applied to the sides of the signature and then applied to the height of the top and bottom margin, where these two intersect, a margin of measurement “X” all around the signature, symbol or wordmark is created providing the measurement.

Color Variations Explained The base and gem of the logo must remain consistent. While the base can be any of the four colors in the color palette, the gem and wordmark must remain consistent as well. The only interchangeable color is the middle part which can be any of the other three remaining colors in the palette.

The logos may be used in just one color or in two colors only.
