The Cameron Forensics Team competed on Oct. 1 - 2 at John Brown University’s Golden Eagle Scrimmage in Siloam Springs, AR, against 19 other teams from around the region. Forensics consists of different forms of debate, speech and interpretation. The eight members of the Cameron Forensics competed in all categories except IPDA. The teams debated for or against resolutions such as the Tea Party’s effect on the Republican Party, Social Security reform, and government surveillance. “We trumped our last tournament,” Skylar Williams, freshman Communications major, said. “We’ve had a pretty strong showing here.” Each team member earned an individual award at this tournament. All the points accumulated throughout all of the events garnered Cameron Forensics to win third Place Sweepstakes, meaning that they placed third above all of the schools that competed. “I’m extremely proud of this team,” Pi Kappa Delta President Brenna Welch, senior Communications major, said. “We came in wanting to win.” These awards came after much rehearsing, practicing and researching during the time in between tournaments. Thomlinson named Director of Honors Program By Dianne Riddles Collegian Staff
Professor of English and Foreign Languages Dr. Vivian Thomlinson has been named Director of the Cameron University Honors Program. She was approved by Cameron University, the University of Oklahoma, and the Rogers State University Board of Regents on Sept. 20. The first graduates of the Honors Program received their degrees in 2008. This year, Cameron has increased financial support for the Honors Program and the Cameron University Foundation has provided additional resources as well as a technology budget to supply personal information tools to each student in the program.

This semester, the former Student Activities Building was converted into the Cameron Exchange. It will accommodate the Honors Program with an Honors Lounge, an office for the Director, and an informational center for external scholarships and
