TEACHER SPOTLIGHT CTAE SPOTLIGHT

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of our schools. We would not be ranked 6th highest academically performing comprehensive school system in the state of Georgia for the second year in a row without your unwavering support. With that being said, I want to recognize our outstanding schools and their achievements.

Kingsland Elementary was recognized as an “A” Rated Elementary School by U.S. News & World Report. Both Mary Lee Clark Elementary and Sugarmill Elementary were given a five-star rating on School Digger. Camden County High, Camden Middle, St. Marys Middle, David L. Rainer Elementary, St. Marys Elementary, Woodbine Elementary, Mamie Lou Gross Elementary, Kingsland Elementary, Matilda Harris Elementary, and Crooked River Elementary were given a four-star rating on School Digger. A simple thank you for your support cannot do justice to our appreciation, but I hope seeing the achievements of our schools makes you as proud as it makes me.

To remain at the top, it is important we work to keep our schools' class sizes down. To help, a new wing was built at Matilda Harris Elementary, which houses eight new classrooms. In addition, Sugarmill Elementary has broken ground on a new wing, which will house nine new classrooms.

As a parent, I understand school safety is just as important as student achievement. Therefore, we developed and conducted Operation Guardian to address potential safety and security threats faced by Camden County Schools. This operation included but was not limited to conducting comprehensive formal surveys of all Camden County Schools, as well as conducting focused evaluation of current physical security, policies, and procedures. This focused critical security operation would not have been possible without the full support of our local, state, and federal partners. We will continue to build on what we have achieved through Operation Guardian to ensure that safety and security remain a top priority for everyone.

It goes without saying I am proud of our schools and humbled to be a part of Camden County Schools!

Regular meetings of the Board of Education are held at 6:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Board Conference Room of the Camden County Schools Administrative Office located at 311 South East Street in Kingsland, Georgia. A work session may be held on the Thursday preceding the regular meeting, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Teacher Spotlight

MS. KATELYN CASH CCHS SPANISH TEACHER

Ms. Katelyn Cash, Spanish Teacher at CCHS, presented two sessions at the 2022 Southern Conference on Language Teaching in Norfolk, VA. In her session “What Next?

Engaging Students through Technology in the PostPandemic Classroom,” Ms. Cash discussed the application of innovation and technology in designing instruction that creates a classroom focused on meaningful student engagement to promote language acquisition. She also co-presented another session with faculty from Valdosta State University, including Mr. Brian Nelson and Dr. Victoria

Russell, the current President of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) for whom Ms. Cash previously served as a graduate assistant. This collaborative session presented the opportunity for professional growth for preservice and in-service teachers through a study abroad experience at the University of Cadiz in Spain.

SPOTLI GHT At the beginning of the month, 18 current students and one alumnus, along with their families, worked miracles at the Camden Middle School FFA barn.

Together, they were able to complete seven projects on FFA's wish list and begin two additional projects!

They worked tirelessly to give the goats a beautiful new roof and installed posts for both the pig and goat pens new roofs.

The chicken tractors now have new, strong doors, and the large coop has a clean, new, and more secure closure system. To prevent predators, extra wire was installed on the small bird pens. New shelves were built, and rabbit waste collection bins were installed. The electric fence has been moved and is in operation, and the rabbit barn fan and cages are clean and renewed.

FFA Advisor, Mrs. Karyn Chester, exclaimed, "I, as advisor of this amazing chapter, am humbled and thankful for the help of all involved. The volunteer spirit, resources, time, and supplies donated refreshed my heart and soul.

Thank you to everyone!!!"
