In today’s dynamic educational landscape, language teachers are expected to develop not only linguistic proficiency but also essential 21st-century skills such as collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Developing Writing Skills
This workshop explores key methodologies for developing writing skills. At its core is the understanding that writing is about producing complete texts, not just isolated sentences. A central principle is the value of reading and analyzing models of the types of texts learners aim to create. The course also examines practical strategies for managing writing lessons in the classroom, emphasizing the importance of guiding students through the writing process. Teachers are encouraged to provide learners with opportunities to reflect, plan, draft, and revise, ensuring a more effective and engaging approach to writing development.
12
Giving Feedback The way teachers respond to students’ performance has a significant impact not only on how effectively they learn and use language during a task, but also on how they engage and behave in future activities. Feedback, whether for assessment or correction, is an essential part of the learning process and has been shown to have “more effect on achievement than any other single factor” (Black & Wiliam, 1998). This talk will explore the various aspects of feedback, the decisions teachers make when responding to students’ performance, the types of mistakes learners commonly make, and the most effective ways to address them.
