International Criminal Law
Harmen van der Wilt, University of Amsterdam Building on the success of previous editions (Cryer et al.), this popular textbook is now expanded and updated in a fifth edition featuring two new co-authors, Elies van Sliedregt and Valerie Oosterveld. A market leader and one of the most globally trusted textbooks on international criminal law, it is known for its accessible and engaging tone and for an even-handed approach that is both critical and constructive. Comprehensively updated and rewritten, this new edition introduces readers to the main concepts of international criminal law, as well as the domestic and international institutions that enforce it, and addresses the latest challenges and controversies surrounding the International Criminal Court. Written by a team of international criminal lawyers who have extensive academic and practical experience in the field, the book engages with critical questions, political and moral challenges, and alternatives to international justice. It contains helpful references to other literature, making it a valuable research resource.
and Procedure
‘It is a challenge, especially in these restless times, to keep pace with all disturbing violent events and integrate them meaningfully in a textbook on international criminal law. This new edition – again – lives up to the high expectations. It combines a well-organized presentation of all the main topics with incisive analysis. Only one point of criticism: the title – ‘Introduction’ – is too modest.’
Cryer, Robinson, Vasiliev, van Sliedregt and Oosterveld
‘This book remains the very best introduction to international criminal law on the market – written clearly enough for laypeople to understand, yet possessing the intellectual rigour and sophistication that academics require.’

GERMAN LAW and LEGAL CULTURE
Jan Klabbers is Professor of International Law at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He studied international law and political science at the University of Amsterdam. He is a regular consultant to a number of international organizations and has been visiting professor at a number of institutions of higher learning, including the Graduate Institute (Geneva) and Sorbonne (Paris). International Criminal Law and Procedure
MILLER
Written by one of the world’s leading international lawyers, this is a landmark publication in the teaching of international law. International law can be defined as ‘the rules governing the legal relationship between nations and states’. However, with political, diplomatic and socio-economic factors shaping the law and its application, international law is much more complex. This refreshingly clear, concise textbook encourages students to view international law as a dynamic system of organising the world. Bringing international law back to its first principles and breathing new life and energy into the subject, the book is organised around four questions: Where does it come from? To whom does it apply? How does it resolve conflict? What does it say? This fourth edition includes references to new case-law and literature, and features (brief) discussions on recent topics of general interest, including the Ukraine invasion, global health law and energy law.

An Introduction to
An Introduction to German Law and Legal Culture offers students, comparative law scholars, and practitioners an insightful and innovative survey of the German legal system. While recognizing the significant influence of the Civil Law tradition in German law, the book also considers other legal traditions – Common Law, Socialist Law, Islamic Law, Adversarial Law, European Law – that are woven into the varied and colorful fabric of the German legal culture. The book provides an informed yet accessible introduction to the foundations of German law as well as to the theory and doctrine of some of the most relevant fields of law: Private Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law, and European Law. It is an engaging and pluralistic portrayal of one of the world’s most interesting, important, and frequently modelled legal systems.

Nigel White, School of Law, University of Nottingham
Harmen van der Wilt, University of Amsterdam
Building on the success of previous editions (Cryer et al.), this popular textbook is now expanded and updated in a fifth edition featuring two new co-authors, Elies van Sliedregt and Valerie Oosterveld.

Catherine Brölmann, Associate Professor of international law, Department of International Law, University of Amsterdam “Refreshing and argumentative, but also clear and concise - this textbook is a must for those wanting to combine the acquisition of knowledge with a deeper appreciation of the disagreements and controversies that abound in International Law.”

Kevin Jon Heller, Professor of International Law and Security, University of Copenhagen

“No-one is better at explaining the nuance of international law while keeping an eye squarely on the details than Jan Klabbers. This new edition of his groundbreaking textbook is a terrific update to an essential book. The book charts the theories and assumptions that make up the international legal system while telling engaging stories about the histories and cases that constitute its practice. The combination is readable, informative, and unmatched among international law textbooks.”
