Life Governors’ Dinner

Life Governors’ Dinner

At last Monday’s Life Governors’ Dinner, the School Council welcomed back our Life Governors, people who have contributed greatly to our School over many years, and we also congratulated and thanked four long serving staff members who have given 25 years of service: Mr Hamish Green (Head of Macneil, Commerce and Indonesian) Ms Min Zhang (Chinese), Mrs Marcelle Drummond (Music) and Mrs Kaye McDougal (PrePreparatory). It was wonderful to be able to reminisce about the careers of these colleagues over the past quarter of a century and to present them with tokens of the School’s gratitude.

To Kill a Mockingbird Congratulations to the whole cast and crew on last night’s outstanding opening night! A cast consisting of students from Camberwell Grammar and Canterbury Girls’ School presented a thought provoking and moving adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel. The performance of the entire class were flawless and it was hard to remember that these were Middle School students – and a Grade Two boy! Congratulations also to Ms Penelope Wood, for her direction, and to her team of designers and technicians who all complemented the wonderful sets and acting. Without the commitment and dedication of all the staff involved this play simply could not have happened. I encourage you to try to get to one of the remaining performances – it is a show well worth seeing!

Blokes’ Book Breakfast Our annual Blokes’ Book Breakfast will take place next Wednesday 21 August. Our guest this year is internationally acclaimed author, Michael Gerard Bauer, whose writing has received many awards in Australia and overseas and been widely translated. I encourage any Dads and their sons who are interested in books and the craft of writing to join us hearty breakfast and what promises to be a very interesting and entertaining presentation. Further information and booking details are in the attached flyer. Bookings close tonight.

September Concert Our music students have been busy rehearsing for the September Concert which will take place in the Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 4 September. The Concert will run over two parts: Part A (Junior School and Middle School) at 6.00pm, and Part B (Senior School and Whole School Choir) at 8.15pm. Tickets go on sale this evening at 7.30pm. Go to www.trybooking.com/BERWT to reserve your seats. Please note that due to high demand, there will be a maximum of 4 tickets per family. Adult and student meals are also available for purchase on the above Trybooking link if you would like to make use of this service. Dinner will be held in the break between Parts A and B.

Enrolments for 2020 Our School is currently in the very fortunate position of having a strong demand for places. We currently have long waiting lists for entry at all levels. Consequently, if parents are contemplating withdrawing their sons next year for any reason, please pass this information on to our Registrar, Mr Peter O’Connell. I do remind all parents that our policy is to ask families for one Term’s notice of any potential change in enrolment. In addition, if you have a younger son that you wish to enrol over the next few years please make sure you have let our Registrar’s Office know well in advance – there are currently waiting lists for Year 7 entry as far ahead as 2030.

Senior School House Chess The Senior School House Chess Competition was held last Friday. All players are commended on the spirit in which games were played on the day. Thank you to all those who assisted at the event. I was pleased to present the Shield to Niko Varrios (Year 12), Captain of Robinson at yesterday’s Assembly.
