Welcome Back

Collection of Data on Students with a Disability

It is great to be back at school after sabbatical leave. My wife and I had a wonderful time away, and I am very grateful to the Council for their encouragement and support, but it is now good to be home and back at School. I am very grateful to the staff and especially to Mr Rob French for taking on the role of Acting Headmaster while I was away. Unfortunately, it has been a fairly sombre start to the term, given that our colleague and friend, Mark Williams passed away during the holidays. Mark worked at Camberwell Grammar School for over 20 years, and for many of those was Head of Clifford House. He mentored and counselled thousands of students over his career, and was also an inspirational IT teacher. Mark’s courage in the face of his protracted illness was inspirational, and it was very moving to me that he chose to spend as much time as possible over his final months at School. He loved this place, and he loved the students in particular, and had a vision of us as a very special community. He wanted to be here whenever he could, and attended even on the last day of term, just a few days before finally being admitted to hospital. We will do our best to live up to his vision of us, and we will miss him dearly. Following so closely the death of another wonderful teacher, Ms Suzan Davies, it has been a tough year. Thank you to all who have offered support in these difficult times. Mark’s funeral, for family and close friends will take place on Friday afternoon at St Mark’s Church. A celebration service for the school community and for students and parents past and present will take place in the Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday afternoon, commencing at 2.30pm. All are welcome.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with a Disability We are required by the Federal Government to provide data on students with a disability, and this data will be sent in very soon. The NCCD process requires us to identify information about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019). Every school must participate in this count, although we do not provide names of individual students. In the end, the figures are used to determine the level of disability funding we receive. A letter from the NCCD providing more information is attached to this Bulletin.

Snowsports – Camberwell Cup The Camberwell Cup was held over the last weekend of the school holidays. Students were able to receive professional race coaching and then compete, along with parents and siblings, on a giant slalom race course. The Baker family were awarded the fastest family, and Declan Woolf (Year 12) was the fastest snowboarder. The 2019 Camberwell Cup was won by Benjamin Svikis (Year 11). Congratulations to all who took part in this event.

Congratulations to Jonathan Pettolino (Year 9) who has been awarded the Australian Scout Medallion. Only a very small number of Scouts ever achieve this award, which represents the top award in each of the five sections on Scouting. It requires years of self-discipline, teamwork and leadership. Well done, Jonathan.
