Bushwalking Prior to setting out on the bushwalk, students will be issued with a hiking backpack and be instructed on the correct technique of packing, fitting and carrying it. During their time on camp, students will undertake a number of hikes of varying length, moving between activity and campsites. Bushwalking provides opportunities for students to develop their navigation skills, gain an appreciation of the natural environment and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and be self-reliant. With support, students will be responsible for managing the group whilst travelling, navigating, pitching tents and cooking meals. Team Initiatives Situated at Lakewood Park Camp, this activity is comprised of a range of activities, some based on land and some situated on or over waters. Team Initiatives encourages social connection, negotiation, problem-solving and adaptability, in a fun and supportive setting. Stand-up paddle boarding This activity will take place in the sea behind the camp. Students will be introduced to stand-up paddle boarding, an activity that involves standing on a large surfboard style board and propelling it with a paddle similar to a canoe paddle. Raft building Using a range of equipment students work together to build, launch and paddle their own raft. Archery After a safety briefing and full instruction on the use of equipment participants can use their skills to hit stationary targets using top quality re-curve bows. Sailing Utilising the sheltered waters of Masons Bay beside Lakewood Park, students will learn how to sail dingy sailboats. During the session they will work together to read the wind, handle the rigging, and steer their vessel across the water. Sea kayaking Kayaking on waterways near Newlands Arm, close to Lakewood Park Camp, students will have a chance to explore the natural environment and develop their paddling skills under specialist instruction from Hall Outdoor Education educators. Bush cooking Working in small teams, students will learn how to prepare basic camp food, like damper and smores, from scratch. Environmental awareness and tree planting Through hands-on tree planting and interactive discussions, campers learn about indigenous plant species, local wildlife habitats, and the importance of conservation.
