The competition remained fierce, with every house racking up their points in the individual events, and the leading house changing hands several times throughout the course of the day. While all houses appreciate the participation of everyone, we can’t help but notice some of the exemplary performances throughout the day. Harrison Car (Schofield) ran spectacularly in his year 11 800 metres and 1500 metres A, leaving the pack 200 metres behind in the latter as he crossed the line. Josh Carlin (Derham), managed to get a respectable 3rd place in the Year 11 800 metres A race, despite being called to run up a year level on short notice. Rory Westcott (Bridgland) showed us his top notch speed in his year 9 sprints, dominating the track in both the individuals, and relays, and moving away from the track, Lachie McGowan (Clifford) was on display in the discus ring with his pedigree hammer throwing technique, dominating the Year 11 discus throw.
Moving into the relays, the tension was building, and the nerves were rising. Each house knew that this is where the day would be won or lost. The 4x100’s ran with some close finishes across the A and B races, and moving into the Medley’s, the excitement grew even more. The Year 10 A race was up first, with Derham house setting their sights firmly on the school record of 4 minutes 56 seconds. It looked good going into the 400 and 800 legs, however, despite the teams best efforts, they didn’t quite make it across the line, coming in at 4 minutes 59 seconds. As the day drew to a close, all eyes turned to the final race, the Year 12 Medley A, the final race at a House Athletics carnival for the Year 12’s. All houses ran well, and the leading house chopped and changed throughout the race, however ultimately, Josh Blew (Bridgland), powered through his 800, taking gold for the house, by a considerable margin.
Overall, it was a tight finish, with only 3 points separating the top 4 houses. Congratulations to Bridgland on taking out the competition, and to everyone who competed, and for those who didn’t, remember that your support was vital to the success of your house.
