Kylie and Dannii Day

camberwellshopping

A letter from the president Dear fellow traders and professionals, I hope you’re ready for a busy Christmas and summer season. Research from the Australian Retailers Association predicts that customers will do Christmas shopping early this year to avoid supply issues and beat the rush. Congratulations to the winning traders in the Camberwell Culinary Awards. Customers were invited to vote for their favourite food businesses and had to upload a receipt to prove they were legitimate. The goal was to urge people to try new businesses and for traders to engage with customers by encouraging them to vote for a chance to win a major prize. No doubt the businesses that promoted the competition benefited, so hopefully more cafes and restaurants get behind the awards next year. This year’s Kylie and Dannii Day, jointly hosted with Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market, really grew. The entertainers were amazing and the crowd had fun with the look-a-like parade. We featured in so many social media feeds, including posts from Dannii Minogue. The event also featured on Channel 9 news, which is excellent publicity for the precinct.

Marketing snapshot In recent months we have continued to keep Camberwell Junction front of mind with interesting campaigns. The Camberwell Culinary Awards returned this year to promote the food and dining category. The campaign gave members of the public the ability to vote for their favourite food venues in Camberwell Junction for the chance to win $500 to spend in the precinct. We also offered $50 vouchers to 10 minor prize winners. Congratulations to the winning traders in the awards: Choclatte (Best Coffee), Glenferrie Crepe Cafe Camberwell (Best Sweet Treat), Cafe Kusina (Best Brunch), La Cabra (Best Drinking Spot), Con Noi Italian Trattoria (Best Casual Dining), Georges Restaurant (Best Fine Dining), Boost Juice (Best Healthy Option), and Provence Artisan Bakers (Best Takeaway). We look forward to drumming up more interest for next year’s awards. We’ve also recently run minor marketing activities including a spring promotion to highlight shops and services for the season. This included branded laneway posters and social media posts, as well as a comprehensive editorial series on the website.

Christmas decorations are up in the street, advertising is underway, and our annual Christmas Family Day is on December 9. This is our biggest marketing promotion so make the most of it by running specials, holding in-store activations, decorating your windows, or playing festive music. All the entertainment is free and Santa will be here, so let your customers know it’s coming up. Don’t forget to tell us what you have planned so we can include it in our marketing. Remember to check the Trader Portal at camberwellshopping.com.au – we post important information relevant to businesses, including government updates, support programs and workshops. And finally, don’t forget to send us details about your offers and specials so we can promote it. Email details and images to: info@camberwellca.com.au. You can also tag us in your social media posts so we can share them. Wishing you all a safe, happy and busy festive season. Regards, Henk Kelly-Kobes President, Camberwell Centre Association

We marked Halloween with website editorial and branded social media posts, and published the latest edition of The Camberwell Citizen which is out currently and will be distributed across the Christmas and summer period. Our online marketing activities continue to yield strong results. Here’s a snapshot of Camberwell Junction’s digital audience numbers: • More than 7,600 email addresses in our subscriber database • More than 204,000 visits to the websites over the past year • More than 9,400 followers on social media

CHRISTMAS IN CAMBE R WEL L J UN C T I O N

This year our Christmas Family Day will run on Saturday, December 9 from 11am – 3pm across the shopping precinct. Our Christmas Family Day is designed to create a focus for our Christmas promotions, drawing people to the precinct for their Christmas shopping and to celebrate the season with free family fun. Customers will be invited to collect their activity checklist from our Christmas headquarters, adjacent to the Camberwell Fresh Food Market. From here, people can attend the many activations across the precinct including photos with Santa, an arts and crafts station, a photo wall with a professional photographer to capture families and pets, plus our annual Where’s Rudolph? competition. We’ll also have plenty of entertainment on the day such as live jazz music, roving circus entertainers, face painting, balloon modellers, and more. All of these activities are designed to move people around the precinct, encouraging them to explore different areas and new stores. The roving entertainment and music will create a festive atmosphere.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE THE MOST OF THE CHRISTMAS FAMILY DAY There are plenty of ways you can leverage the promotions and make the most of increased foot traffic expected on the day. Here are some ideas on how you can participate: • Create a festive shop window display • Play festive music in your store • Get your staff to dress in a Christmas theme • Offer free gift wrapping to customers • Facilitate charitable contributions from sales on the day • Provide special offers or in-store activations • Sell pre-wrapped gift packs or display a table of gifts for Mum/Dad/under $30 etc.

If you do place stock or a gift table outside your shop, it must be kerbside and adhere to council rules. Make sure you tell us about your offers or events so we can share them on our social media and via our promoters on the day. Email your details to: info@camberwellca.com.au As with all events, we provide a digital marketing ‘trader pack’ for you to use – this will help promote the precinct’s events to your customers. If you are not receiving these, you may need to re-subscribe to our database or update your details as it is in your interest to be informed about the precinct activities and marketing opportunities to help your business.

DIGITAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN With a strong digital presence, we’re in a good position to promote Camberwell Junction as a leading shopping destination for Christmas. We will have a comprehensive campaign to publicise our Christmas shopping and activities, including articles, direct email campaigns, animated advertisements, and branded updates on our website. This will be supported by digital advertising and social media advertising.

MAXIMISE CHRISTMAS TRADE Christmas decorations are now up across the precinct to make it look festive and inviting – there are festive tree and bin surrounds, Christmas tree boxes, a decorated laneway, and other attractive features across the precinct. With Christmas trade in full swing, we encourage you to consider late night trading close to Christmas, or extended trading hours throughout December to ensure you can make the most of this increased sales period. We will provide your stores with special ‘holiday trading hours’ posters that you can display in your windows, while flyers will be distributed to 28,000 local homes to keep nearby residents informed about our Christmas offerings.

Kylie and Dannii Day

the crowds happy with a continuous flow of Kylie and Dannii songs throughout the day.

In partnership with the Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market, we ran Kylie and Dannii Day on Sunday, October 29.

Fans of the pop stars were enthusiastic participants on the day, with many dressing up in their favourite Kylie and Dannii outfits.

The event was designed to celebrate the iconic singers Kylie Minogue and Dannii Minogue. The famous sisters grew up in Camberwell, attended nearby schools, and now also live in the local area – and their connection to the local area was celebrated at the event.

Thank you to everyone who came along to Kylie and Dannii Day and participated in the activities. There was a wonderful community atmosphere and it made for a positive and uplifting day.

Entertainers Della Katessen, Gabriella Labucci and Brenda Bressed hosted the day, and there was a special performance from Melbourne’s most famous Kylie impersonator, Millie Minogue. DJ Argonaut kept

Have your say: Shape the future of Camberwell Junction Boroondara Council wants to hear from you. They invite your feedback on the draft Structure and Place Plan for Camberwell Junction via their survey. Why this is important Camberwell Junction is an important activity centre for Melbourne’s eastern suburbs – for shopping, employment, public transport, services and housing. In 2021, Camberwell Junction was home to about 2,500 residents in 1,200 homes. According to Census data, in 2051 this will increase to 5,800 residents and we’ll need 1,500 more homes. Council needs to demonstrate to the Victorian Government that they have a plan to meet housing and employment needs from now until 2051. Having this plan also ensures the community can have a say in decisions about this major activity centre. About the draft Structure and Place Plan The draft plan carefully considers the close relationship between private development and public land. It has two distinct, yet complementary parts:

1. The Structure Plan, which responds to current growth forecasts for the next 20+ years. It guides the design and scale of new development, while also protecting the character of the centre that locals love. 2. The Place Plan, which provides a vision and a pathway to improve liveability in Camberwell Junction. This includes identifying how we can improve public space, upgrade transport infrastructure and community facilities, expand greenery and raise safety for all. You can learn more and complete the survey online: engage.boroondara.vic.gov.au/camberwell-junction-draft-plan The survey closes 5pm on December 11, 2023.
