Marketing update

FOURTH QUARTER 2018

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear fellow traders and professionals,

•

Just Italy – handmade pasta and pizza

With Christmas fast approaching, we’re coming to that time of the year when retailers and professional services are finishing up for the season and meeting end-of-year deadlines.

•

Yum Yami – authentic Chinese fare specialising in handmade dumplings

•

Sushi Pier – fresh sushi and sashimi prepared on site, using the highest quality ingredients.

As part of refurbishment works, The Well shopping centre has re-branded to Camberwell Place, and the centre has announced that they will offer a new stateof-the-art dining precinct, due to open in December 2018. New tenants that will open soon include:

•

St Giles Wine Bar, Cellar and Pantry – a modern dining experience featuring an extensive wine list, design-your-own charcuterie boards and larger plates celebrating local produce

MARKETING SNAPSHOT It’s been another busy quarter for the Camberwell shopping precinct, with plenty of promotions taking place over spring. Our spring promotion is giving shoppers the chance to win a holiday for two valued at $1,000 from Hello World Travel Camberwell and Qantas Holidays. The competition is proving to be one of our most popular, with a significant number of entries already. We created a promotional video that shows the best of Camberwell in spring and gives people ideas on how they can enjoy the precinct during the season. To view the video, visit: https://bit.ly/2z4uUQ3 Other spring promotional activity included a series of fashion trend articles over the campaign period, including the surprising revival of the noughties trends in menswear. We also ran a ‘Find everything you need for spring racing in Camberwell’ editorial promotion which encouraged shoppers to think of the local shopping precinct for all their spring racing needs. We also ran a general spring season print advertisement in The Weekly Review. To further support our spring marketing activities, we installed artificial flowers in the streets to decorate the precinct and show that we were celebrating the season. This was well received by the public and we have had a lot of positive feedback.

In addition to these retailers, Camberwell Place will offer several pop-up dining experiences, to be announced in late 2018. I wish you all a happy and healthy festive season with your loved ones. Regards,

Henk Kelly-Kobes President, Camberwell Centre Association

Christmas time in Camberwell

Camberwell’s annual Christmas Family Day is on Saturday, December 15 As the festive season approaches, our annual Christmas Family Day returns on Saturday, December 15 and runs from 11am – 3pm. All traders are encouraged to run special promotions and add some Christmas spirit to the day. The precinct will host roving entertainers and plenty of activities for the family. The popular antique fire truck will return for free rides with Santa around the shopping precinct, while face painters, balloon modellers and live musicians will keep people entertained. This year we will also have a Christmas photo wall where people can get their photo taken with props against a festive backdrop and share them online. There will also be a “to do list” of activities that visitors are invited to explore. We expect increased foot traffic so be sure to coordinate your own in-store promotions and events on this day. Please let us know what you’ll be doing so we can help promote it via our online marketing channels. Send any images or details about your Christmas activities to: kdaly@camberwellca.com.au

EDITORIAL AND ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS Our Christmas promotions and activities will be supported by a strong editorial and advertising campaign to promote awareness of our Christmas Family Day and to keep Camberwell front of mind for this season’s shopping. The advertising campaign will include newspaper ads (Domain, Progress Leader and Mama Mag), radio ads (3AW and Smooth FM) and a digital advertising campaign (AdWords, banner ads, social media advertising). The campaign will include messages such as ‘avoid the hassle of the big shopping centres’ and ‘don’t risk late online orders’ and encourage people to rather shop local in Camberwell. For editorial, we will produce our own content including Christmas stories highlighting gift ideas, which will be published and distributed through direct email campaigns, our website and our social media channels.

CHRISTMAS TRADE Christmas decorations are now up across the Camberwell shopping precinct, including window decals supplied to each business. We have also supplied you with a ‘trading days’ poster that you can complete and display so that your customers know when you will be open over the Christmas and New Year period. Please consider late night trade opportunities close to Christmas. Also note, there will be no Camberwell Rotary Sunday Market on December 23 so the Market Place carpark will be available earlier that day.

The response to this impressive new-look printed publication has been overwhelmingly positive. This edition features informative stories and news about the local area. More than 30,000 copies are printed and distributed to local homes, stores and selected drop-off spots.

CAMBERWELL ON CANVAS Camberwell’s unique art trail, Camberwell on Canvas, ran from November 8 to 30 and included an opportunity for the public to go on a guided tour on the opening weekend. Artists ranging from juniors to professionals were allocated a store and invited to submit their interpretation of the theme ‘art to match a store’ and their artworks were displayed in shop windows. The Camberwell Centre Association created this event to promote the unique businesses on Burke Hill. We provided the canvases and allowed the artists to sell their art commission free. People voted for their favourite art pieces for a chance to win a $50 shopping voucher to spend in Camberwell. The art trail was very popular, with the unique 24/7 style exhibition attracting new shoppers to the area.
