Marketing update
THIRD QUARTER 2018
A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear fellow traders and professionals, As the spring season and warmer weather is upon us, retail trade is expected to pick up before we head into the busiest time of year. This trading period presents a great opportunity for retailers and service-based businesses to boost their sales and aim for ambitious targets before year end. Our recent Dine In Dine Out (DIDO) festival went really well. This event is well-loved by the community who appreciate the free family entertainment. Primarily designed to promote our diverse food offering, it benefits all traders as we clearly promote the event as one that is provided by the Camberwell traders. This generates some great PR for the precinct and a stronger connection to our customers.
state‑of‑the‑art dining precinct with family-focused options. There will also be new retailers and enhancements to the facade. It’s business as usual throughout the redevelopment period and signage will communicate details about the works, so look out for these to stay updated. The ANZ laneway that connects Burke Rd with the Market Place carpark has been refreshed as part of Boroondara Council’s Laneways Strategy. The laneway’s canopy has been repainted and lightboxes have been installed to showcase artwork of local icons by RMIT students. Commerce Lane was also recently refurbished and now has new pavements, improved lighting, greening and seating, and the Post Office laneway has a mural by a Melbourne artist. We’ll keep you posted with regular updates but I’m sure we can all agree these improvements will be of great benefit to the precinct.
Around the Camberwell precinct, developments continue with the aim to revitalise the area. Refurbishment works at The Well shopping centre continue and shoppers can look forward to a new food and dining hub as part of the $18 million redevelopment. The upgrade will include a

MARKETING SNAPSHOT
Here’s a snapshot of Camberwell’s digital audience numbers:
Our annual food fiesta Dine In Dine Out was held on Saturday, August 4 and the event was successful. Running for its sixth consecutive year, the event (put on by the Camberwell traders) was a lively day and evening of food demonstrations, tastings, entertainment and family activities. This year there were two pop-up spaces for the event – the Evans Place laneway and the Burke Avenue park, located opposite the entrance to The Well shopping centre. Additionally, we ran fire truck rides from Market Place carpark and had some activity at the Camberwell Fresh Food Market to coincide with their Family Day. A huge thank you to all the traders that got involved in the event day and continued with food-related promotions in store throughout August. Our Father’s Day campaign is currently running. This year’s campaign asked entrants to tell us their best (or worst) dad joke for the chance to win $200 to spend in Camberwell. The winner will be announced soon. Camberwell Shopping’s digital audience continues to grow, with increased users across our website, social media platforms and email database. Digital activity remains a key low-cost marketing activity in our mix and continues to yield excellent results for the shopping precinct.
Regards,

CHRISTMAS PROMOTIONS We will again hold our annual Christmas Family Day in Camberwell on December 15. On the day, live entertainers will roam the shopping precinct spreading the festive cheer. There will be jugglers, balloon modellers, stilt walkers, live musicians, face painting, fire truck rides and more. This is a great way for Camberwell traders to thank shoppers for supporting their local precinct. If you wish to hold an in-store event or promotion on the same day to maximise the marketing activities for this event, please let us know so we can help you to market it.

But get in quickly, as ad bookings close on September 10. To book an advertisement in the next edition, call Aaron on 0400 196 533 or email citizen@assemblo.com
About The Camberwell Citizen The Camberwell Citizen is published three times a year and covers a range of topics from food and fashion to business and culture, as well as interviews with key personalities in the local community.
