2017 Marketing Calendar

A letter from the President Hi fellow traders and professionals, I hope you all enjoyed a break and are now back into the routine. Retail was a very slow over Christmas, which is reflected in the national figures. According to reports, bricks and mortar sales are slightly down compared to online trading. Service professionals and B2B business have performed better from what we can see, but if you have any feedback on your areas, please let us know. We have a full schedule of advertising underway, with the fashion and beauty stores being promoted for the new season first up. We are also looking at a campaign around our fast-growing health and wellness category to follow.

workshop in June, provide education, business support and networking opportunities. We promote these on our CamberwellBusiness.com.au website, which we are also planning to improve this year to include a directory of local business providers, though they are still welcome to list on our retail site, CamberwellShopping.com.au. Make sure your business is on these sites along with links to your own websites and social media to make it easy for customers to find you. All the best for this quarter and I hope to catch up with you soon. Regards, Henk Kelly-Kobes President, Camberwell Centre Association

Our Business Forum events start in March, which are free to our members and, along with the

Marketing snapshot Our most recent campaign for Valentine’s Day gave entrants the chance to win a $200 romantic date for two at Rivoli Cinemas, which includes dinner and a film in Gold Class. To go in the running, entrants had to tell us how they would spend Valentine’s Day in Camberwell. Our Christmas campaign was a huge success, as we carried out comprehensive advertising activity across print, radio and digital mediums. Our key messages included ‘avoid the hassle of big shopping malls’, ‘don’t risk late online orders’ and ‘choose your local retailers’. ic nt a m o Ro r Tw A o IN te F W a D

L O V E is in the open air

As a result of this advertising activity, we attracted a 45% increase in unique traffic to the Camberwell Shopping website during the promotional season compared to 2015, and had a significantly bigger turnout on our Christmas Family Day compared to previous years. For Christmas we ran our annual Where’s Rudolph? competition, which has become incredibly popular among locals and families. The winner of our 2016 competition was Pat Ritter, who won a $500 voucher to spend in Camberwell. There were also 10 minor prize winners who won $20 vouchers to Grill’d Camberwell.

Camberwell food month August is food month in Camberwell and we’ll celebrate with our Dine In Dine Out event which promotes local restaurants, cafes, eateries and food stores. Get involved If you run a food business in Camberwell this is an excellent opportunity to capitalise on activities and promotions that will take place in August. You can create your own food-related event or promotion in-store to be part of the food month which will be complimented by Dine In Dine Out’s major advertising efforts. This activity is designed to bring more people to Camberwell to experience and enjoy food and is an easy way for you to drive ‘bums to seats’ or ‘dollars to your till’.

Digital update The Camberwell Shopping audience continues to grow, with increased users across our website, social media platforms and email database.

Camberwell Business website update

Digital activity remains a key low-cost marketing activity in our mix and continues to yield excellent results for the shopping precinct.

Our Camberwell Business website is due for a refresh and part of this year’s marketing activities will involve building a new and more modern site.

The Camberwell Shopping website continues to thrive, with hundreds of enquires from customers submitted via contact forms direct to traders through the site each year.

The purpose of the site is to promote business activities and events in Camberwell and act as a platform for business-related content including resources, and a comprehensive local directory.

It also offers traders without their own websites a strong online presence as the individual shop pages act as a detailed website and includes information about the business, its trading hours and links to social media and other channels.

We’ll keep you updated on the progress of the new site. Visit: camberwellbusiness.com.au

The offers section of the website gives traders an opportunity to share their latest offers and promotions.

✓✓ Almost 4,000 email addresses in our email database ✓✓ More than 60,000 unique visitors to our websites in the past year (10,000 a month on average) ✓✓ More than 4,700 followers across social media

Parking survey results We sent out a parking survey in early December to gather your thoughts on proposed parking restrictions in Camberwell’s Junction West/Harold Street zones on weekends. We had an overwhelming number of respondents oppose the restrictions, and those responses were presented to Boroondara Council. Thanks to everyone who participated in the survey – we succeeded in stopping council’s plan to impose parking restrictions. The zone will continue to have no parking restrictions on Saturdays and Sundays after 1pm which will give visitors the chance to stay in the area for longer and enjoy leisurely shopping, dining and going to the movies.
