Is it better to say what others want to hear, or to tell the truth even if it isn’t well received? And isn’t it more fun to make up a good story? Another adventure of Petit and his friends in a world full of questions! What will you come up with next, Petit? Comic.ar Ediciones Founded 2009 (magazine) · 2013 (publishing label) Based in Argentina Website comicpuntoar.com Rights contact comicpuntoar@gmail.com

Comic.ar was born in June 2009 as a monthly, newspaper-style comics periodical created by Tomás Coggiola together with a team of cartoonists and writers that included Enrique Alcatena, Sergio Ibáñez and Marcelo Basile. Its goal was to bring back the pleasure of continued stories, the native hero and graphic humor for a broad audience, beyond the circle of comics specialists. After nine issues in newspaper format and ten more as a magazine, Comic.ar became a publishing label in 2013, entirely devoted to comic books and graphic novels. Its growing catalogue combines new works created in Argentina with classics of Argentine comics history, including the Mikilo series by Rafael Curci and Marcelo Basile, collected in integral editions since 2019.

Pages 80 Publication date 2023 Dimensions 24 x 17 cm / Color Genre Graphic novel Argentina, late 1920s. The ambitious patriarch of a wealthy conservative family, closely tied to the then-popular world of horse racing, senses the political upheavals ahead and devises a Machiavellian plan to secure his influence. What he fails to foresee is the storm brewing at home: his only son, a boy too handsome and sensitive for his time, defies his father and his class to pursue his own dreams, unaware of the terrible consequences. More than a generational clash, this graphic novel is a tragic allegory of a changing era.

Efecto Malena (The Malena Effect) tells the story of a young woman born on February 29, who only exists physically—and is only remembered—in our world during leap years. Her constant disappearances complicate the investigation of a crime that, at first sight, makes no sense at all. Malena grapples with a conflict over her identity as she tries to find meaning in the pieces of her fragmented existence. In the eye of a storm that sweeps up and upends the lives of everyone around them, Malena, her father Antonio and Detective Piro must fight against the passage of time and intersecting realities in order to restore balance to their lives and to the world they inhabit.

In her debut graphic novel, Beibi Kebab gives us a portrait of her mornings. The pressure of getting out on time, the automatic movements that let her act without thinking too much. Stepping out into the street, passing strangers, taking in the world and its background murmur with the odd flash of attention: a conversation about football, a bird, the light of a bus at once festive and incongruous. A daily rhythm interrupted by the arrival of the pandemic.

Jota and her mother, Ana, follow him later. The new country, hostile and strange, further complicates an already tense family situation. Jimena Tello tells the story of an exile from three points of view: daughter, mother and father. Each one colors the same events with their own gaze, their own desires and frustrations, weaving politics into family life. Far from a melancholy elegy, Nadar lejos (Swimming Far Away) uses exile to tell us about human change. Its characters can voice their pain, but they are also capable of healing some of it.

The Tree Hunter Ian Debiase

Pages 168 Publication date 2026 Dimensions 17 x 23 cm / Color Genre Graphic novel

In late-1970s Buenos Aires, Vicente, a former psychiatric patient, is convinced that tree rings record the voices around them, and that with the right method those conversations can be read in the wood. He throws himself into a clandestine investigation that will push him across increasingly dangerous lines. His brother, Teo, is an Army major working at the Secretaría de Información Pública (SIP, Public Information Secretariat), the state body in charge of controlling the media and producing the dictatorship’s official propaganda. Without realizing it, each brother edges closer to the other’s territory. In this graphic novel, Ian Debiase interweaves a fictional plot with rigorous historical research into the workings of the SIP—a little-explored corner of the history of Argentina’s dictatorship—and incorporates propaganda material from the period to build a political thriller of oppressive atmosphere and mounting paranoia.

What is a palindrome? It is an expression that can be read both from left to right and from right to left—from back to front and from front to back. A palindrome becomes a syntagmatic and vicious circle. And that is what we palindromists are: addicted to the vice. With lustful passion, we plunge into a labyrinth of words in search of twofaced, symmetrical, mirrored paths. As if that were not enough, some palindromists—such as Walter Koza, the author of this book—also accompany them with drawings.

Among animals there is no room for concessions. In nature, an uncontrollable impulse reigns supreme, giving rise to situations of “cruelty” or “innocence”, depending on the creature in question. But these situations, when applied to human behavior, can also serve as a mirror: the beast we all carry within us. Such an image, taken to the extreme of irony, crosses the line from the pathetic into the comic. This is what Chanti achieves in Little Big Beasts: a collection of portraits in which black humor takes flight through the precise linework the author is known for.

Fulú Carlos Trillo Eduardo Risso

Pages 272 Publication date Dimensions 24 x 17 cm / Black and white Genre Graphic novel The story of Fulú is grounded in rigorous historical research into the 17thcentury slave trade, when people were torn from their land to be sold as merchandise in the American colonies. Around this conflict, Carlos Trillo and Eduardo Risso build an epic in which mysticism and willpower stand up to oppression. Fulú is a young woman of striking beauty, the daughter of a mortal and a demigod, with a strange mark on her forehead and supernatural powers that heighten her enormous allure. Men of every kind will go mad trying to possess her, and she—young but not naive—will use her animal magnetism to her advantage. In the end, the slave, the chained and subjugated girl bought and sold for a handful of coins, will take control of her own destiny, and of several others. That is what Fulú is about: fighting against everything, and in spite of everything, to fulfill a sacred dream—the dream of being free. Set in the young Americas, this remarkable epic is made up of five story arcs and is the fruit of one of the most successful collaborations between writer Carlos Trillo and artist Eduardo Risso.

It is also the search for the deepest and most forbidden origin of all things. A journey through the Art of Fire: alchemy. Not the clumsy science of turning lead into gold, but the fascinating adventure of transmuting the secrets of the universe into knowledge.

This book explores the life of Cayetano Santos Godino, “El Petiso Orejudo”, from a fresh perspective. This child murderer left a trail of blood and fire across the Buenos Aires neighborhoods, just as the 20th century was beginning and Argentina was presenting a flourishing image to the world. Our story unfolds against this backdrop of inherent marginalization, beautifully told through the sensitive voice of Luciano Saracino and the evocative linework of Nicolás Brondo. This extended edition includes pages previously unpublished in Spanish, enriching a work of truly striking impact.

Brutish Beasts Polaco Scalerandi

His artistic skill, attention to detail, and mastery of composition are qualities that come as no surprise, but what makes this book both thrilling and unsettling is El Polaco’s vision. This vision is embodied in the heartwrenching majesty of his brutal grotesques, which coexist—with surprising familiarity—with suburban settings; the everyday and the nightmarish share the same magical space.

It’s impossible not to think of other creators of phantasmagoria who reflected their era in the dark mirror of their inspiration, such as Brueghel the Elder or Goya. (Enrique Alcatena)

Andresito Artigas, also known as Andrés Guaçurarí, was the only Indigenous caudillo and governor during the American independence revolutions, and he led the Guaraní peoples—who were part of the Artiguist movement—in the League of Free Peoples. It took two centuries for another Indigenous person to govern a South American nation, and a little longer for a comic book about his intrepid and incredible life to be published. Presented as a beautiful, large-format book— a portable visual arts exhibition—the 371 panels, painted in oil on cardboard, recount this great chapter of our history.
