When it comes to public kung fu performance, my favourite Hung Kuen weapon set is the Plum Flower Double Dragon Swords. My father, Lam Cho and Lau Zaam (father of Lau Gar Leung) jointly created this set between 1980’s and 1990’s. Why is this my favourite weapon set? It’s a very appealing set for the audience to watch, especially when one plays it correctly and smoothly! Many of the techniques in this set require correct body movement and coordination with the footwork. One must swing the swords swiftly with power and yet smoothly while the stances remain sturdy and low. In order to make this set look very entrancing, one must know how to manoeuvre the body and the swords simultaneously. The significant factors that make this set appealing include: body form, movement, speed, strength, explosive power, swiftness, agility, smoothness, stance, and expressions in the eyes. Of course, it also takes many years of practice.
