The smart tool for EU proposal drafters and grant writers CallforEurope is a consultancy that provides for professional information and assistance on European Policies, Programmes and Public Calls. Hello readers! In the 6th of February 2022 edition, our weekly monitor reached 458 new calls recently opened by European Institutions and Agencies. We monitored and reviewed the recently opened 7 funding calls under the Creative Europe Programme. The initiatives funded will be on the promotion of European Media, 114 calls open on Energy, Films, Cultural Festivals and Environment and Climate Cooperation Projects. Horizon Change. Europe issued a lot of funding calls promoting research and innovation on themes such as the protection of democracy, social and cultural transformation processes, the promotion of cultural heritage in Europe. Furthermore, the Single Market Programme published 2 new funding calls. 62 calls open on Enterprises and Economic Development Policies.

Objective
Public calls for projects generally include the general and specific objectives to be achieved by the funded initiatives. Objectives are coherent with the general ones defined by the funding programmes.
Eligible Activities
Projects are expected to be implemented through types of activities identified as eligible to public funding. In many cases, calls also list activitities and connected costs not eligible to public funding from a specific European programme.

A comprehensive socio-economic evaluation of future climate change impacts across sectors, countries/regions, timescales and climate building on socio-economic scenarios with improved sectoral, cross-sectoral and spatial resolution of impact projections. Improved climate change related decision support based on better understanding (and quantification) of the socio-economic risks (and opportunities), associated with climate change impact, for both sudden onset extreme events and slow onset processes Actionable insights based on data at the appropriate level of geographical scale and spatial resolution for decision-makers in public and private sectors, including national and regional level estimations, leading to enhanced adaptation efforts and to a more resilient Europe. Better integration of climate change risks in public and private sectors’ investment decisions - from property, through infrastructure up to regional and national supply chains - leading to increased long-term resilience.
Eligible Activities
Actions should improve the understanding of the nature and extent of physical risks from a changing climate and their integrated socio-economic implications in Europe in 2030, 2050 and 2100 timeframes. The analysis should evaluate the costs of inaction / “business as usual” by extrapolating current policies with different social and climatological scenarios. It should seek to capture the range of possible socio-economic climate-related risks including both those most likely to occur as well as those associated with lowprobability high-impact climate events with potentially catastrophic outcomes. Indirect impacts should be part of the analysis as well as the impacts in the rest of the world with relevant spill over effects in Europe should also be considered. A comparison with scenarios with lower degrees of warming (with ambitious mitigation measures) should be included as well as the analysis of the costs and benefits of ambitious adaptation measures. Research should also improve the understanding of climate-related risks that are unlikely to be avoided through mitigation and/or adaptation and require urgent/specific response.

A comprehensive understanding of the key motivations and drivers (economic, regulatory, legal, cultural, environmental, etc.) behind land-use related decisions in Europe at levels ranging from land owners to public authorities at local, regional and national level, including their relative importance. A better understanding of the awareness of key actors (land owners, managers, local authorities, regulatory agencies) about climate change and biodiversity challenges and their willingness to contribute addressing them, including the adoption of new or different practices consistent with long-term expectations.

Actions should aim to gain a realistic understanding of the factors behind landuse decisions and how they can be best oriented towards the efficient and socially responsible pursuit of multiple policy objectives on various scales (from the individual field/farm to region to national to continental scale). Objective
As wind turbines grow bigger and taller, the blade tips are increasing more affected by turbulent atmospheric flow features, while airborne wind energy systems operate at even higher altitudes. This zone of the atmosphere currently lays between the current numeric models at the microscale and the mesoscale. Further, the data integration of the models of these different altitudes is still scarce. Thus, there is a need for an improved understanding of atmospheric flow physics, particularly regarding wind power production forecasting and the design of wind energy technology components. It is expected that better predictions of wind patterns should: Support improved wind farm design, location choice, distribution and operation thus bridging the gap between small-scale controlled experiments and full-scale deployment; Enhance system reliability and power production; Decrease economic uncertainties related to farm design and power production, as well as wind technology components design and durability; Lead to the development of numerical models capable of accurately forecasting high wind flow and power production. It will also improve wakes modelling and the integration of models with real condition wind farm data;
Eligible Activities
Develop an open access knowledge hub for experimental data, based on the principles of open data sharing. Develop and validate numeric models to accurately forecast wind flow in low, medium and high altitudes in onshore and offshore scenarios. These models should address how external factors, such as wind conditions, and different climate affect power production and loads on target and neighbouring wind power systems; Integrate these different developments (knowledge hub and forecasting models) into a tool able to be readily absorbed by the sector. This integrated approach need to be applicable to at least 2 of these different wind energy conversion technologies: onshore wind, offshore wind (fixed bottom or floating), and high altitude wind systems;

Objective
Photovoltaic power generation is pivotal in the transition to a clean energy system and the achievement of the zero-emissions target. To that end, it is important to enhance affordability, security of supply and sustainability of PV technologies along with further efficiency improvements. Consequently, project results are expected to contribute to all of the following outcomes: Increase the efficiency and stability and minimise the environmental impact of Perovskite PV. Enlarge with bandgap tuneable perovskites and corresponding device architectures the integration and application possibilities of PV technology. Increase the potential for commercialisation of perovskite PV, creating a competitive technological know-how for the European PV industrial base.
Eligible Activities
Perovskite PV are welcomed as an emerging technology for solar energy conversion, as today they afford high power conversion efficiency (PCE), higher than 25%. At the same time, perovskite semiconductors are based on abundant and low-cost starting materials and can be processed using simple and economic methods. The tuneable bandgap of the perovskite materials opens a lot of applications in a wide range of optoelectronic devices, even beyond solar cells. To ensure however economic feasibility and competitive levelized cost of electricity, the technology should offer long-term stability alongside high power conversion efficiency to match the reliability of silicon-wafer-based modules (the lifetime expectation for a PV module in a power plant is 20–25 years). At present, the long-term stability of lead halide perovskite modules does not meet this target and improvements are hampered by a lack of understanding of the cell and module failure modes. In addition to the intrinsic cell stability issues of perovskite PV, the usage of lead and scaling-up are the main challenges towards bringing perovskite technologies to the market.

Objective
The objective is the creation of a technical infrastructure combined with governance mechanisms that will secure easy, cross-border access to key datasets in the targeted area. In particular, the aim of this topic is to achieve sustainable cross-border linkage of and access to a multitude of genomic and related phenotypic, clinical and other datasets across Europe based on the progress achieved in the context of the 1+ Million Genomes initiative (1+MG).[1] Authorised data users, such as clinicians, researchers and innovators, will be able to advance our understanding of genomics for more precise and faster clinical decision-making, diagnostics, treatments and predictive medicine, and for improved public health measures that will benefit citizens, healthcare systems and the overall economy. The resulting genomic data infrastructure will be aligned with the developments under the European health data space, including relevant projects supported under the EU4Health Programme.
Eligible Activities
This action will support the deployment of the infrastructure needed to make harmonised European genomic data resources and linked clinical, phenotypic and other information, where available and relevant, securely findable and accessible across national borders. The data infrastructure may combine existing data platforms via FAIR-compliant interfaces and should facilitate the extension or upgrade of existing datasets and the creation of new ones. To ensure maximum data protection, the data will be in principle analysed using distributed data analysis and AI learning techniques, while fully taking into account the applicable data protection requirements and the EU’s international obligations.

Objective
The Green Deal data space will interconnect[1] currently fragmented and dispersed data from various ecosystems[2], both for/from the private and public sectors. It will offer an interoperable, trusted IT environment, for data processing, and a set of rules of legislative, administrative and contractual nature that determine the rights of access to and processing of the data. The data space will also establish links with activities in other EU programmes such as Horizon Europe (in particular those funded under Cluster 4 “Digital, Industry and Space”, Cluster 5 “Climate, energy and Mobility”, Cluster 6 “Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment” and the relevant Missions) and the space programmes (e.g. Galileo and Copernicus) providing massive amounts of data including in real time. In order to coordinate among the various initiatives contributing to the Green Deal objectives, the project will propose a roadmap for the deployment of a full-fledged common European Green Deal data space and liaise with potential users and other relevant actors to ensure synergies between users and infrastructures..
Eligible Activities
The funding will enable the establishment of a data governance mechanism, with a detailed roadmap on how the data space should progressively develop into a panEuropean Green Deal data space, by connecting EU programmes, national, regional and local data ecosystems at the EU level. The roadmap should describe how to integrate the various activities contributing to the common European Green Deal data space in line with existing policy priorities and existing initiatives, enabling all relevant actors to access and re-use data needed for their purposes in compliance with the dataspace governance scheme. To this end, the roadmap should ensure that relevant users such as climate and environmental scientists are able to access and exploit the opportunities offered by Green Deal Data Space. Action to address potential barriers to such use cases should be identified in advance.

Objective
The I3 Instrument focuses on the support to interregional innovation investment on the road towards commercialisation and scale-up phases giving them the tools to overcome regulatory and other barriers and bring their project to investment level by supporting interregional innovation investments at high technology readinesslevels (TRL 6-9). The present call for proposals under this topic supports interregional innovation investments for the uptake of new or improved manufacturing solutions, as well as for supporting industry to face the challenge of digitalisation and to promote the shift towards a more environmentally sustainable production (zero pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment).
Eligible Activities
The programme provides financial and advisory support in form of grants to mature joint innovation projects in shared smart specialisation areas structured in value-chain investment portfolios. Therefore, the main purpose is to directly contribute to actual concrete investments at high TRL levels (minimum TRL 6). A project implemented under the I3 Instrument can be composed of a portfolio of sub-projects (portfolios of interregional investments activities – e.g. through distribution of funding by the consortium coordinator to the members of the consortium or in a form of financial support to third parties). These sub-projects are necessary to be carried out in order to accelerate demonstration processes for the uptake of innovation, thus increasing the competitiveness of EU value chains. This portfolio approach foresees the identification, within a specific thematic/technological area of cooperation, of a number of investmentready sub-projects that address one or several bottlenecks identified in the project proposal by the consortium coordinator.

legal entities (public or private bodies) established in EU Member States or listed EEA countries and countries associated to the I3 Instrument. Proposals must be submitted by a consortium of applicants (beneficiaries; not affiliated entities), which complies eith the following conditions: Minimum 3 entities from 3 different regions in 2 eligible countries. The coordinator must be either a public body, private non-profit organisation or international organisation.

Objective
Alliances for Innovation aim to strengthen Europe’s innovation capacity by boosting innovation through cooperation and flow of knowledge among higher education, vocational education and training (both initial and continuous), and the broader socio economic environment, including research. They also aim to boost the provision of new skills and address skills mismatches by designing and creating new curricula for higher education (HE) and vocational education and training (VET), supporting the development of a sense of initiative and entrepreneurial mind-sets in the EU. These partnerships shall implement a coherent and comprehensive set of sectoral or cross-sectoral activities, which should be adaptable to future knowledge developments across the EU. To boost innovation, the focus will be on digital skills and transition to a circular and greener economy. Alliances for Education and Enterprises are transnational, structured and result-driven projects, in which partners share common goals and work together to foster innovation, new skills, a sense of initiative and entrepreneurial mind-sets
Eligible Activities
Activities supported include: Boosting innovation; Developing a sense of initiative and entrepreneurial mind-sets, competences and skills; Stimulating the flow and exchange of knowledge between higher education, VET, enterprises and research; Identifying resilience-related, market needs and emerging professions. Alliances for Innovation are required to apply EU wide instruments and tools, such as the EQF, ESCO, Europass, EQAVET and ESG, whenever relevant. To try and test new curricula or new training and learning methods, Alliances for Innovation may organise learning mobility activities of students, teachers, researchers and staff in so far as they support/complement the main activities of the partnerships and bring added value in the implementation of the project's objectives
