Our support is intended to: • offer technical information on how to access to and manage EU grants and projects; • make people find new transnational partnerships throughout Europe; • stimulate public debate on how to access to EU funds. Our ambition is to serve as a technical resource center. We want to serve primarily those that usually work on writing applications and

Hello readers! In the 9th of October 2022 edition, we commented some EU calls recently issued. Under a new call programme for promoting advanced digital skills, the European Digital Programme issued a new call for proposals aimed at funding Specialised education programmes in key competences. Relevant and appropriate EIT InnoEnergy Business Plan for 2023-2024 implementation of the KIC’s multiannual strategy, demonstrating its excellence (including objectives and ambition; methodology; financial sustainability), its impact (including KIC pathways towards impact; measures to maximise impact - dissemination, exploitation and communication) and its quality and efficiency of the implementation (including work plan and resources at portfolio level; capacity of participants and KIC Partnership as a whole).
Eligible Activities
KICs will undertake in particular: (a) innovation activities and investments with Union added value; (b) innovation-driven research, experimentation, prototyping and demonstration in areas of key economic, environmental and societal interest and drawing on the results stemming from Union and national research; (c) education and training activities in particular at master's and doctoral level, as well as professional training courses, in areas with the potential to meet future European socio-economic and socioecological needs and which expand the Union’s talent base, promote the development of innovation-related skills; (d) actions as part of the pilot higher education initiative to better integrate HEIs in innovation value chains and ecosystems; (e) outreach activities and the dissemination of best practices in the field of innovation with a focus on the development of cooperation between higher education, research and business, including the service and financial sectors, and, where relevant, public and third sector organisations;(f) RIS activities, fully integrated in the KICs’ multiannual strategy and linked to the relevant smart specialisation strategies; (g) to seek synergies and complementarities between KIC activities and existing Union, national and regional programmes; (h) to mobilise funds from public and private sources; (i) to provide, on request, information on research and innovation outputs and results, and related intellectual rights.

In response to this topic, EIT Climate-KIC should show how the KIC could contribute to the outcomes and impacts described in the KIC Strategic Agenda and the KPIs in the EIT Impact Framework following the specific EIT Climate-KIC’s Impact Pathways, the likely scale and significance of this contribution, and the measures to maximise these impacts in the context of Horizon Europe. At the end of the action, the following will be accomplished: Contribution to the realisation of the EuroHPC overall and specific objectives Novel and outstanding ideas to address the exascale challenge in HPC applications will be identified and the potential impact on HPC applications substantiated by a proof-ofconcept implementation. Wider participation of researchers in the exascale challenge from different domains with so far little exposure to exascale technology in the European HPC ecosystem Prepared underrepresented research communities to participate in upcoming calls in the field of HPC algorithms and applications
Eligible Activities
The action will provide financial support through an open and competitive call to small teams of researchers to develop novel algorithms for the upcoming European exascale supercomputers. Targeting the highest possible impact on HPC applications, the developed proofs of concepts will demonstrate great potential to solve currently untractable computational challenges or to substantially improve time-to-solution and energy-to-solution for important use cases.

Objective
Project results are expected to contribute to the following outcomes: Ensuring the highest nuclear safety standards for deployment of alternative fuel for VVER reactors in the EU Member States and Ukraine; A coordinated approach to the licensing of alternative fuel for VVER reactors; Increased security of supply of nuclear fuel for VVER reactors.
Eligible Activities
Twenty Russian-designed VVER reactors exist in the EU[1] and fifteen in Ukraine. The functioning of those reactors depends mainly on Russian-produced nuclear fuel. EU sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine made it necessary to strengthen the security of supply for these nuclear power plants. Although there were several attempts in the last two decades in both EU and Ukraine[2] to establish an alternative supplier of the nuclear fuel for the VVER reactors, outcomes were not sufficient to ensure the security of supply at the highest safety standards. This action should carry out the necessary safety analyses, tests, and, considering the urgency of the situation, help to engage with ENSREG and relevant national nuclear regulators to identify procedures allowing, whenever possible, faster licensing of VVER fuel manufactured by European suppliers, with due consideration to international safety standards (IAEA, WENRA) and the Nuclear Safety Directive[3]. In particular, this action should: ensure a coordinated approach to the licensing of the alternative fuel, including qualification and benchmarking campaigns, as well as further development of necessary codes and standards, addressing relevant nuclear safety issues remove obstacles for European vendors to assure the supply of highly reliable fuel for the uninterrupted, safe operation of VVER-440 and VVER-1000 reactors

Objective
Data sharing among manufacturing companies and with (service) providers will be increased by the deployment of two data spaces of the manufacturing industry, which will demonstrate how sharing industrial data improves company operations (1) across supply chains and (2) using deep industrial data within production environments, enhances business opportunities for industrial data value added services, and supports the transition towards a circular economy. Manufacturing data spaces and their AI-based analytics and optimisation applications can influence company-internal processes as well as processes across organisations. On the basis of the preparatory actions, the main objective is to deploy two operational data spaces across value chains in the manufacturing sector, which enable companies in different user roles (e.g. supplier, client, service provider) to interact with large amounts of industrial data across their organisational borders.
Eligible Activities
The action calls for the deployment of two operational data spaces of the manufacturing industry, building on the results of the preparatory actions. The projects should have sufficient activities to lead to sustainability at the end of the action, as identified in the preparatory actions mentioned above. Such data spaces will offer a secure and trustworthy way of making data usable between supplier and user companies on the basis of voluntary agreements. Starting from existing ‘embryonic’ data spaces with manufacturing companies, their data sharing will be completed, deepened, expanded, and/or enlarged with other organisations (e.g. reuse, repairing, remanufacturing, refurbishing or recycling companies in order to improve circularity) and gradually integrated into the Data Space Technical Infrastructure.

Objective
The Media and Audiovisual Action Plan is developed around three areas: recovery, transformation, and enabling and empowerment. Its Action 4 aims to foster innovation through the creation of a media data space to encourage and support media companies in sharing data and developing innovative solutions and encouraging new business models. The objective is to respond to the challenge of boosting innovation and mobilize the media industry and provide a strong support for the creation of a European data space able to foster the competitiveness of the European media sector. Such a data infrastructure will be used to boost the use of data for innovative content (entertainment, education and news), and for innovative production and distribution.
Eligible Activities
The data space will provide the whole media value chain with an advanced and shared data infrastructure. This data infrastructure will be tested by means of the creation of innovative solutions for the production, curation, circulation and distribution of media content, and in particular through new platforms for quality content, across the Union. The key elements for data spaces are the sharing of a wide variety of data such as content, user consumption and audience data, 3D animation models, or production meta-data. The data spaces will also facilitate access to computing resources for creative SMEs. Furthermore, data can provide valuable insight to services aiming at increasing the findability of media content (news and entertainment content) across borders. Such services can play a pivotal role in providing new resources for the media industry and supporting the creation of a European public sphere. Likewise, further creative industries and other industrial sectors (such as retail or automotive) could potentially make use of the media data space to generate additional value and open new markets for the media.

Objective
Ecodesign and energy labelling for energy-related products enjoy widespread support by suppliers, retailers, consumers and citizens, but non-compliance with the requirements is a significant and growing concern (e.g. over 70% of products failing to meet the information requirements). Lack of awareness, knowledge or detailed understanding of the legislative provisions by economic operators is one of the likely main reasons, rather than bad will. The objective of this action is to increase visibility to operators of (existing) resources available to help them comply through increased outreach and proactive involvement by relevant stakeholders.

To address this, the proposed action(s) should establish a facility combining both reactive and proactive assistance to economic operators through targeted and timely information to increase their awareness, knowledge and understanding of the concerned Regulations. The precise nature of the action is very much left up to the project proposals to define, though attention should be also given to reaching small and medium size suppliers and retailers (e.g., those not engaged in trade associations and/or located in remote areas), for example on regulatory changes concerning new or rescaled energy labels. Actions should cover at least the following and have both a reactive and proactive nature:

Eligible Activities

It is expected that the experiment proposes the use of a combination of services (coming from different DIHs) that complement each other, to benefit from a more advanced service not available in the individual offer of the DIHs.

This call for proposals will be part of the overall COVID-19 recovery strategy for a sustainable tourism ecosystem and in particular aim at equipping and empowering SMEs in their twin transition efforts in line with the Tourism Transition Pathway (under the Industrial Strategy Update (COM(2021)350 final). The general objective of the call is to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs16 in the tourism sector, by building capacity of SMEs to successfully carry out the twin green and digital transition, and to boost innovation, resilience, sustainability and quality along the tourism value chain.
Eligible Activities
The action aims to guide the forward-looking recovery of the tourism ecosystem by providing support, including with the intermediary of consortia of organisations of the relevant tourism industry stakeholders, to the digital and green transformation of tourism companies, particularly SMEs, and boosting innovation, resilience, sustainability and quality along the tourism value chain. The activity may also include provision of financial support to (e.g. SMEs and B2B matchmaking).
