The smart tool for EU proposal drafters and grant writers CallforEurope is a consultancy that provides for professional information and assistance on European Policies, Programmes and Public Calls. Our mission is to support transparent knowledge and easy access to all of the opportunities offered by EU Programmes. We think that giving fresh information on such themes is a valid lever for boosting European Union integration.

Our support is intended to: • offer technical information on how to access to and manage EU grants and projects; • make people find new transnational partnerships throughout Europe; • stimulate public debate on how to access to EU funds. Our ambition is to serve as a technical resource center. We want to serve primarily those that usually work on writing applications and

managing projects through European funding. Call them “Euro-drafters” or “Euro-experts”: in any case, their activity demands high specialization and a constant updating on European policies, programs and public calls. Our service is intended for them but also for any private, public and not-for-profit organization interested to European programmes and funds.

Hello readers! In the 5th December 2021 edition, our weekly monitor reached 376 new calls recently opened by European Institutions and Agencies. This week we completed the review of all the new Erasmus+ funding calls concerning cooperation partnerships and actions for supporting reforms related to Education, VET and sport policies. Besides, new funding calls were issued under the CERV Programme (for support of civil rights) and the Justice Programme. Two calls ere also opened for supporting the European Solidarity Corps. Europeaid Programme also issued new funding opportunities.

Objective

A more consistent and sustained level of coordination and preparedness for supporting researchers at risk at European, national and institutional level; Improved support to researchers at risk through the provision of policy recommendations, as well as advice and assistance on their implementation; A more sustainable and professionalised support network/structure/system for researchers at risk across Europe, facilitating access to funding and networking opportunities, creating level playing field for applicants to European and national R&I programmes, and raising the quality of submitted proposals; More synergies between initiatives supporting researchers at risk funded by EU programmes (such as Horizon Europe and Erasmus+) and national or institutional actors; Increased exposure of researchers at risk to the industry and to the non-academic sector; Greater awareness in Europe and beyond on why researchers are at risk and ways to support them.

Eligible Activities

To build on the results of the Researchers at Risk initiative “InSPIREurope” launched under the MSCA in 2019, further support is envisaged towards national and international organisations working with researchers at risk and aiming to enhance and professionalise their activities. The support action should take into consideration existing work and new challenges for researchers at risk, such as the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. It should further facilitate and strengthen cooperation and linkages between European, national and institutional initiatives and programmes, increasing awareness on why researchers are at risk, as well as identifying and delivering the best possible solutions. The support action should be aligned with the general objectives of the MSCA, in particular scientific excellence, skills and career development, inter-sectoral mobility, equal opportunities and inclusiveness, attractive working conditions, work/life balance, while fostering open science, innovation and entrepreneurship. It should not duplicate other actions foreseen under Horizon Europe or other EU-funded programmes such as Erasmus+, but rather build synergies between these programmes. The activities carried out under this support action should complement actions in Member States and third countries associated to Horizon Europe.

Fusion research encompasses innovation in the domains of physics and technology over a wide variety of specialisations. Fusion researchers are constantly challenging the scientific state-of-the-art and improving the technology thereby creating the conditions for innovation, much of which can be exploited in other science and industrial sectors for the benefit of society. The fundamental basis of the Euratom Programme is the drive and support for innovation across the product development chain from research to market. In this context the researcher plays a critical role. The SOFT Innovation Prize[1] is being offered to highlight and reward excellence in innovation that can be found in fusion research as well as the quality of the researchers and industries involved. Following the success of first four editions of the SOFT Innovation Prize awarded by the Commission under Euratom Research and Training Programme 2014-2020 (in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020), the European Commission is holding the contest again in association with the next Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) in 2022.

Objective

The ‘HealthyLifestyle4All’ is an initiative, which will build upon the Tartu Call for a Healthy Lifestyle. The aim of this initiative will be to promote healthy lifestyles in the Union, in particular amongst children, and its scope will be widened to involve various Commission services, civil society organisations and the Member States.

Eligible Activities

This specific action will support the ‘HealthyLifestyle4All’ initiative by strengthening the health literacy component for the promotion of healthy lifestyles with a focus on the school setting, ensuring equal access to the activities by all socio-economic groups, and thereby reducing health inequalities. The work will be done through a holistic approach of a healthy school initiative, supporting Member States to create a healthy school environment. The action will support public authorities to increase opportunities for regular physical activity, to promote healthy lifestyles by exchanges of best practices on health literacy, including the health aspects of the Union school scheme and the promotion of the European Code against Cancer. The project will develop proposals for effective uptake of successful practices on health literacy and healthy lifestyles including, nutrition, regular health-enhancing physical activity and mental health in schools.

Launched in 2011, the BUILD UP Skills initiative is supporting the upskilling of building professionals across Europe, to deliver building renovations offering high-energy performance as well as new Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings. This topic aims to facilitate the rebooting of the National Qualification Platforms, Status Quo Analyses and National Roadmaps developed under the first phase of BUILD UP Skills (2011-2012, ‘Pillar I’), to ensure alignment with the EU 2030 energy targets. The first objective is to support the revitalisation of the National Platforms created in the first phase of the BUILD UP Skills initiative (2011-2012), gathering all key national stakeholders. Since the first platforms were established ten years ago, projects should aiming at expanding their scope by involving new stakeholders. As a second objective, the rebooted National Platforms should update the Status Quo Analyses and National Roadmaps to reflect the new realities of the building sector. In support of the Green Deal, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and farm to fork objectives and targets, the successful proposal will focus on advisor exchanges across the EU to increase the speed of knowledge creation and sharing, capacity building, of demonstration of innovative solutions, as well as helping to bring them into practice, which accelerates the needed transitions. Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) in which advisors are fully integrated are key drivers to speed up innovation and the uptake of research results by farmers.

Eligible Activities

Connect advisors having a broad and extensive network of farmers across all EU Member States in an EU advisory network dedicated to water use, including avoiding water shortage and pollution, with a view to sharing experiences on how to best tackle the issues, building on the outcomes of the EIP-AGRI “Focus Group on Water and Agriculture”[3], the EIP-AGRI Workshop: “Connecting innovative projects: Water & Agriculture”[4], and the H2020 “Thematic network to improve water management”[5] Share effective and novel approaches among the EU advisory network on water use, which are sustainable in terms of economic, environmental and social aspects. Take strong account of cost-benefit elements. Collect and document good examples in this regard, connecting with farmers, intermediates and consumers in Member States to be able to take into account financial aspects and local conditions. Select the best practices, learn about the key success factors, possible quick wins and make them available for (local) exploitation, to ensure financial win-wins for producers, citizens and water companies.

Objective

The objective is to deploy a secure and trusted data space to support sharing and accessing skills data for various purposes, from analytical and statistical purposes to policy development or re-use in innovative applications. Eligible Activities

The action will engage the community of stakeholders involving organisations at EU/ multi-country level, public administrations and/or governmental bodies, private and public actors (Including IT developers and end-users), education and training providers. In particular, the project will: Undertake an inventory of existing platforms collecting, storing and sharing education and skills data, in particular related to the green and digital transformations; Explore different possible design approaches for the data space (e.g. serving private data sharing and interests, that are also complemented by public data, serving private and public interests), and elaborate the advantages and disadvantages; Propose design/conceptual approaches, for the set-up of the data space, for the possible categorization of skills and identify common essential elements and develop corresponding business models; Explore what services and applications could be envisaged in the future; Develop a multi-stakeholder governance scheme of the data space; Get broad consensus on the approach, governance, and business models.

Objective

The main objective is to develop a secure and trusted data space to enable the agriculture sector to transparently share and access data allowing for an increase in its economic and environmental performance. The space may also serve common good purposes (for more information on the scope of the data space, please see “A European Strategy for Data”, COM/2020/66 final). The data space is expected to facilitate the sharing, processing and analysis of production data, open data and possibly other public data (e.g. soil data). Production data supplemented by publicly held data will present new opportunities for monitoring and optimising the use of natural resources and will contribute to achieve the objectives of the Green Deal (including the Farm-toFork-Strategy; Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change) and the Common Agricultural Policy.

Eligible Activities

The project will explore possible options and conceptual approaches for the future deployment of this data space. Provisions for transparent control of data access and use, development of governance and business models for the data space are to be developed considering, among others, the evolving regulatory environment, cross-data-space elements, and experiences with the EU Code of Conduct on sharing agriculture data by contractual agreement. The development of the data space is expected to have a strong end-user orientation and to consider potential users, including farmers currently less using data-based solutions.
