The smart tool for EU proposal drafters and grant writers CallforEurope is a consultancy that provides for professional information and assistance on European Policies, Programmes and Public Calls. Our mission is to support transparent knowledge and easy access to all of the opportunities offered by EU Programmes. We think that giving fresh information on such themes is a valid lever for boosting European Union integration.
Our support is intended to: • offer technical information on how to access to and manage EU grants and projects; • make people find new transnational partnerships throughout Europe; • stimulate public debate on how to access to EU funds. Our ambition is to serve as a technical resource center. We want to serve primarily those that usually work on writing applications and

Hello readers! In the 27th June 2021 edition, our weekly monitor includes 101 new calls recently opened by European Institutions and Agencies. This Week 138 new calls by Horizon Europe Programme were issued. We will give synopses and comments on all the new funding opportunities fully in the next issues. In the meantime, readers will have the opportunity of looking at EU Funding ad Tenders Portals, so to have a first information on the single calls for proposals. This week, we go through the MSCA Programme (with new calls issued recently) for funding fellowships, doctoral and postdoctoral grants across Europe.

The new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and new funding calls for 2021 Four big funding calls were issued last week by the European Research Agency. They concern to the first interventions provided by the Marie Skłodowska Curie Action. It is a big framework initiative under the Horizon Europe programme.
What follows is our general description of the main strand interventions that this initiative offers in favour of the career and mobility of researchers across Europe The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Programme The MSCAs were at first launched in 1990 with the aim of sustaining research excellence equipping researchers across
Europe with new knowledge and skills and providing them with international and inter-sectoral experience to fill tomorrow's top research positions. Today MSCA intends to sustain a structuring impact on higher education institutions and other entities beyond academia by widely spreading excellence and setting standards for high-quality researcher education and professional training, across the European Research Area (ERA), and worldwide. Between 2014 and 2020, the programme supported over 65,000 researchers from Europe and beyond, including 25,000 PhD candidates. It also financed more than 1,000 international doctoral programmes and boosted ties between academia and industry, involving 4,700 companies and nearly 2,200 SMEs. During the same period, over 8,450 organisa-
tions from more than 130 countries participated in the MSCA. The MSCA under the Horizon Europe Programme
Starting out in the new Horizon Europe programme, in 2021 the MSCAs intend to achieve a structuring impact on higher education institutions, research centres and non-academic organisations. Its budget is today of a total of €6.6 billion. MSCAs will be implemented in 4 specific macro-interventions. The new calls
In 2021, the MSCA will provide a total sum of around €822 million. New calls have been issued already in the last week covering the following actions. MSCA Doctoral Networks
These are partnerships of organisations from different sectors across Europe and beyond that are supported to train highly skilled doctoral candidates, stimulate their creativity, enhance their innovation capacities and boost their employability in the long-term. Applicants are international consortia of universities, research institutions, businesses, SMEs and other non-academic organisations. They should include at least three independent legal entities, each established in a different

EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country and with at least one of them established in an EU Member State. Doctoral Networks implement doctoral programmes that respond to well-identified needs in various research and innovation areas, expose the researchers to the academic and non-academic sectors, and offer research training, as well as transferable skills and competences relevant for innovation and long-term employability. Besides standard Doctoral Networks, incentives have been introduced to promote two specific types of doctorates as well: Industrial Doctorates. They train PhD candidates who wish to develop their skills and step outside academia, in particular in industry and business. Individual participants must be enrolled in a doctoral programme and jointly supervised by the academic and non-academic partners. Joint Doctorates. They provide a highly integrated type of international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration in doctoral training leading to a joint doctoral degree or multiple doctoral degrees awarded by the participating institutions. PhD candidates must be enrolled in a joint programme and be jointly supervised. Doctoral Networks can last for up to four years. The duration of
each fellowship is between three and 36 months. Each beneficiary must recruit at least one doctoral candidate and can also organise secondments for them anywhere in the world. Funding to recruit additional researchers is proposed as an incentive for Industrial and Joint Doctorates. EU funds cover support for each recruited researcher in the form of: - a living allowance; - a mobility allowance; - other allowances for special needs; - Indirect cost for network management.
MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships In this case funds are aimed at supporting researchers holding a PhD and wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. The funding will be available to researchers ready to pursue frontier research and innovation projects in Europe and worldwide, including in the non-academic sector. PFs help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors. Interested researchers submit an application together with a host organisation, which can be a university, research institution, business, SME or other organi-
sation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. All disciplines are eligible for Postdoctoral Fellowships, including research areas covered by the Euratom Research and Training Programme. There are 2 types of Postdoctoral Fellowships: European Postdoctoral Fellowships. They are open to researchers moving within Europe or coming to Europe from another part of the world to pursue their research career. These fellowships take place in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country and can last between 1 and 2 years. Researchers of any nationality can apply. Global Postdoctoral Fellowships. They fund the mobility of researchers outside Europe. The fellowship lasts between 2 to 3 years, of which the first 1 to 2 years will be spent in a non-associated Third Country, followed by a mandatory return phase of 1 year to an organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Only nationals or long-term residents of the EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries can apply. Researchers can receive additional support to carry out a placement of up to 6 months in a non-academic organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Programme
Public programmes that fund the specific call for proposals, according to specific policy objectives, and accompanied by specific working plans, financial regulations, etc.
Administration
Administrations, Institutions and/or Agencies, committed to the implementation of the programmes and funding of coherent initiatives and projects according to the single ongoing call for projects.
Objective
Public calls for projects generally include the general and specific objectives to be achieved by the funded initiatives. Objectives are coherent with the general ones defined by the funding programmes.
Eligible Activities
Projects are expected to be implemented through types of activities identified as eligible to public funding. In many cases, calls also list activitities and connected costs not eligible to public funding from a specific European programme.
Eligible Applicants
Entities eligible to apply for funding can be physical or legal persons. Legal persons can include public and/or private entities. In many cases, calls require applicants to form partnerships or legal consortia, with specific conditions for lead applicans, applicants and associate entities.

The project will create synergies and complement the activities under the pilot project funded from the previous call (PPPA-AIPC-2020) to support the development of multinational approaches to facilitate capturing data on paediatric cancer from multiple sources, and build a multi-stakeholder network. It will have a particular focus on patients, survivors and carers as active contributors and participants in the co-creation and definition of user requirements and overall usability of applications of Artificial Intelligence technologies in paediatric cancer.

Supporting initiatives of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) that propose a thorough strategy to support the digital innovation in their region and facilitate the set-up and realisation of Innovation Experiments (IEs), equipped by own investments and supported by additional public and/or private funding. Besides the individual set up of IEs, it is considered of utmost importance that such supported initiatives: • Validate the services offered by DIHs and Competence Centres (CCs) • Facilitate experience exchange and critical mass of the European Network of DIHs and CCs.

Objective
To set up and ensure the upgraded functioning of Enterprise Europe Network in the period 1 January 2022 until 30 June 2025 by selecting the consortia that will make up the Network. Proposals are expected to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of SMEs in Europe and promote entrepreneurship. It should do so notably by: - Assisting them to become more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable; - Supporting their digitalisation and greater resilience to shocks; - Supporting their innovation and innovation processes; - Facilitating their access to the Single Market and third country markets; - Helping them to cooperate and where appropriate integrate with local, regional, national and European clusters and industrial ecosystems and global value chains.
Eligible Activities
- advisory and partnering services focusing on EU programmes, policies and legislation that are relevant to SMEs, and other innovation, sustainability, internationalisation and access to finance advisory services; - helping clients of the Network engage in establishing successful partnerships in: a) Business / commercial collaboration; b) Innovation / technology and knowledge transfer; c) Collaboration fostering R&D activities of SMEs and leading to participation and funding of SMEs in European research programmes (such as Horizon Europe or Eureka Eurostars). - Promotion of the Network and communication; - Network development and capacity building - Network coordination and quality management

Legal entities (public or private bodies), established in EU Member States or non-EU countries associated to the COSME part of the Single Market Programme.

Consortia should be composed of the appropriate mix of entities to ensure delivery of the full range of Network services in their designated geographic area. An indicative and nonexhaustive list includes: SME support organisations: sector and industry associations, export agencies, chambers of commerce, chambers of crafts, technology transfer companies, business incubators…; Organisations with proven experience on resource efficiency and circularity support services, such as members of the European Resource Efficiency Knowledge Centre (EREK) and other sustainability platforms Financial intermediaries; Trade promotion organisations (TPOs); Business organisations and representative organisations of SMEs; Regional development agencies; Innovation agencies; Research organisations or foundations; (Business support units of) higher education institutions. Objective

Eligible Activities
European Cooperation Projects are transnational projects involving cultural and creative organisations from different countries taking part in the programme. They give cultural organisations of all sizes the possibility to co-produce, cooperate, experiment, innovate, be mobile and learn from each other. The action aims to improve access to European culture and creative works and to promote innovation and creativity.

Alliances for Innovation aim to strengthen Europe’s innovation capacity by boosting innovation through cooperation and flow of knowledge among higher education, vocational education and training (both initial and continuous), and the broader socio-economic environment, including research. They also aim to boost the provision of new skills and address skills mismatches by designing and creating new curricula for higher education (HE) and vocational education and training (VET), supporting the development of a sense of initiative and entrepreneurial mind-sets in the EU. These partnerships shall implement a coherent and comprehensive set of sectoral or cross-sectoral activities, which should be adaptable to future knowledge developments across the EU. To boost innovation, the focus will be on digital skills as they are increasingly important in all job profiles across the entire labour market. Also, the transition to a circular and greener economy needs to be underpinned by changes to qualifications and national education and training curricula to meet emerging professional needs for green skills and sustainable development. Alliances for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills (implementing the ‘Blueprint’) (European Skills Agenda for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness and resilience: https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=1223) aim to create new strategic approaches and cooperation for concrete skills development solutions – both in the short and the medium term – in given economic sectors, or in areas implementing a major action of the European Skills Agenda for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness and resilience, the Pact for Skills. The main objective of the Pact is to mobilise and incentivize all relevant stakeholders to take concrete actions for the upskilling and reskilling of the workforce, by pooling efforts and setting up partnerships, also at EU level addressing the needs of the labour market, supporting green and digital transitions as well as national, regional and local skills and growth strategies. Therefore, the deliverables of Alliances for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills, i.e. sectoral skills intelligence, skills strategies, occupational profiles, training programmes, and long-term planning, will be an important contribution to the work of the sectoral partnerships that have joined the Pact for Skills. Alliances for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills seek to tackle skills gaps on the labour market that hamper growth, innovation and competitiveness in specific sectors or areas, aiming both at short term interventions and long term strategies. These Alliances will be implemented in the 14 industrial ecosystems identified in the New Industrial Strategy for Europe (COM/2020/102 final: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/ TXT/?uri=CELEX:52020DC0102) (1. Specific objectives: (a) to contribute to the effective and coherent application of EU criminal law in the area of the rights of persons suspected or accused of crime (procedural rights priority); (b) to contribute to the effective and coherent application of EU law in the area of the rights of victims of crime in line with the EU Strategy on victims’ rights (2020-2025) (victims’ rights priority).

- mutual learning, exchange of good practices, development of working methods which may be transferable to other participating countries; - exchange and provision of information and development of information tools; - capacity building for professionals; - facilitating cooperation between competent authorities (including where relevant national experts or agencies dealing with the aspects covered by this call) and/or legal practitioners and/or service providers (including multi-disciplinary networks at EU or international, national, regional or local levels); - communication activities including dissemination of information about rights and activities raising awareness of the existing rules on rights at EU and national levels, relevant to the priorities of the call; - training activities, as long as they are of ancillary nature and not the main purpose of the project; - analytical activities, such as data collection and creation of data bases, surveys, research etc.
