Hello readers! In the 9th January 2022 edition, our weekly monitor reached 501 new calls recently opened by European Institutions and Agencies. During the last week we reviewed all the currently open Competitive Calls funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme. These calls are "cascading funding" procedures managed by project consortia, for selecting third parties (SMEs, private or public entities, etc.) for contributing to the implementation of projects funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme. Many competitive funding calls are now open for deadlines up to the next six months. They fund projects and initiatives in many sectors, i.e. digitalisation in museusms, implementation of artificial intelligence, value chain calorisation, agricultural innovation, etc.

Public programmes that fund the specific call for proposals, according to specific policy objectives, and accompanied by specific working plans, financial regulations, etc.

Administrations, Institutions and/or Agencies, committed to the implementation of the programmes and funding of coherent initiatives and projects according to the single ongoing call for projects.
Objective
Public calls for projects generally include the general and specific objectives to be achieved by the funded initiatives. Objectives are coherent with the general ones defined by the funding programmes.
Eligible Activities

Objective
Fusion research encompasses innovation in the domains of physics and technology over a wide variety of specialisations. Fusion researchers are constantly challenging the scientific state-of-the-art and improving the technology thereby creating the conditions for innovation, much of which can be exploited in other science and industrial sectors for the benefit of society. The fundamental basis of the Euratom Programme is the drive and support for innovation across the product development chain from research to market. In this context the researcher plays a critical role. The SOFT Innovation Prize[1] is being offered to highlight and reward excellence in innovation that can be found in fusion research as well as the quality of the researchers and industries involved. Following the success of first four editions of the SOFT Innovation Prize awarded by the Commission under Euratom Research and Training Programme 2014-2020 (in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020), the European Commission is holding the contest again in association with the next Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) in 2022.

to improve access to and understanding of risk factors and health determinants to improve health outcomes for cancer.
Eligible Activities
a) to support the usability of the recommendations of the European Code against Cancer through the ‘EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention’ by means of activities covering training, piloting and promotion amongst the general population. Support will include activities to provide relevant input for the design and development of the ‘EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention’. b) to support ‘Health Literacy for Cancer Prevention and Care’ by means of activities that develop and share best practices to strengthen health literacy in cancer prevention and care programmes, with a focus on disadvantaged groups. These activities will include the assessment of literacy on cancer prevention and will provide support for targeted actions to improve the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand health information to make informed decisions about cancer prevention. These targeted actions will be designed taking into consideration health literacy programs developed within healthcare systems and in the community, for instance, to reduce medical jargon and improve education using plain language, easy-to-understand written materials and teach-back, and also plain language written materials, including visuals to provide more culturally and linguistically appropriate health education and enhanced webbased information.

Objective
The call will fund the execution of projects led by SMEs including a Data Value Chain (DVC) scenario where value is created from the sharing of data, proposing innovative products and services making use of Big Data tools but also adhering to one of the participation tracks defined below. The program is looking for 30 promising big data startups and SMEs to take part in its second round of incubation.

Interested startups and SMEs have three ways of applying and participating in REACH Incubator: THEME-DRIVEN (Track 1): REACH consortium has in collaboration with the 3 leading European Digital Innovation Hubs onboard defined the cross-sectorial Data Value Chain (DVC) themes to be tackled by participants. DVC themes available in the first open call are tourism & entertainment, energy, circular economy, digital marketing, agriculture and retail manufacturing/industry, healthcare and insurance. READY-MADE (Track 2): Applications will deal with challenges defined by the REACH Data Providers according to the needs detected in their market (JOT Internet Media, Migros Ticaret A.Ş., Sonae MC, Yapı Kredi Teknoloji, De Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie nv (VRT), Play&go experience, Idea75, Almerys, EDP, COFARES, An Group, and Biilbao Council) FREE CHOICE (Track 3): Applicants will devise novel DVCs by bringing their own data provider/s and/or their own datasets with those already facilitated within the REACH Data Catalogue. The applicant, a single SME, will apply together with their own Data Provider/s (at least one) proposing a joint challenge to be solved.

Innovation Capacity Building for Higher Education - HEI 2nd Call

Objective
to create systemic impact in higher education at institutional level, by supporting higher education institutions (HEIs) to strengthen their innovation and entrepreneurial capacity and integrate into and engage with innovation ecosystems. By doing so, HEIs will be empowered to become engines of impact and support the realisation of a carbon-neutral, digital, circular and inclusive society. The EIT HEI Initiative: Innovation Capacity Building for Higher Education (hereinafter referred to as the “HEI Initiative”) has been designed with the aim of increasing the innovation and entrepreneurial capacity in higher education by bringing together HEIs in innovation value chains and ecosystems across Europe. All HEI projects selected for funding under the HEI Initiative are required to create an Innovation Vision Action Plan (IVAP) as part of their application. The IVAP will take a long-term view towards increasing the innovation and entrepreneurial capacity within the corresponding HEIs, at institutional level, with a view to 2030.

A minimum of one actor from another side of the Knowledge Triangle (e.g. regional/territorial authorities, VET organisations, RTOs, SMEs and start-ups). These actors may be full partners or associated partners. A broad geographical scope, especially involving organisations established in RIS-eligible20 countries, is strongly encouraged.

Increase cost-effectiveness of the conversion in biomethane production. Diversify the conversion technology basis for biomethane production. Contribute to market up-take of biomethane related technologies in the gas market. Contribute to the priorities of the SET Plan Action 8.
Eligible Activities
Proposals will demonstrate cost-effective and innovative biomethane production through thermochemical, biochemical, chemical, electrochemical, biological pathways including sustainable biomass and biogenic wastes gasification, CO2 effluents from anaerobic digestion or fermentation processes combined with renewable hydrogen or water. The biomethane production should be optimized to improve production efficiency, reduce cost, minimize GHG emissions and increase sustainability in a circularity approach for energy and material above conventional technologies of biogas upgrading to biomethane. All demonstrators should be fully and transparently documented, to ensure replicability, up-scaling and to assist future planning decisions. Demonstrating advanced technologies for efficient production at scale of biomethane will contribute to facilitate the market introduction of the biomethane technologies and the substitution of natural gas in the gas grid. This is the basis for penetration of biomethane in the energy and the transport energy systems, in particular for gas consuming sectors. It supports the European Green Deal and climate and energy targets for 2030 and the net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while supporting the EU goals for energy independence and competitive sustainable growth.

Eligible Activities
The topic is contributing to the activities of the AU-EU High Level Policy Dialog (HLPD) Climate Change and Sustainable Energy (CCSE) partnership. Climate changes and increase usage of water in all economic activities create more stresses on water use for energy generation. Energy generation covers in this context energy from renewable sources and energy vectors such as electricity, heat and fuels. Therefore the needs for African countries of having their own dedicated models to simulate and estimate the stresses on the water-energy nexus are crucial for their policy decision and energy planning. International agreement and trade issues can be considered in the model. Most of the current models are based on developed country standard and usage. The proposal should then develop and test models for decision makers and planners to implement energy infrastructures and energy supply in Africa which safeguard a systemic approach to the water-energy food nexus. These models can be based on existing reliable source codes and models. The test should be made on the case of an existing African water basin. Participation of societal stakeholders is considered important

Eligible Activities
Proposals will show the way to profitable and sustainable seafood farming away from the densely populated coasts of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. Such farming will not depend on fossil fuels; a focus should be on low trophic level species; increased production will not lead to increased pressure on the ecosystem, therefore will not compromise the achievement of Good Environmental Status. Aquaculture farms will also share space with other offshore economic activities in a synergistic way. Proposals should demonstrate solutions for increasing circularity by the production of low-emission, zeroor low-carbon and toxic-free farming of aquatic organisms in an optimally used marine space. They should test and demonstrate novel aquaculture methods and techniques, spanning from engineering and robotics to breeding, and from spatial planning to a holistic governance of multiple maritime activities. They should include viable concepts for market access and commercial operation, and outreach to consumers and investors, to avoid that innovative solutions stop operating once grant funding stops. Proposals should also explore options for creating eco-friendly and sustainable artificial reefs in or near the wind energy and aquaculture premises, offering suitable habitats and shelter for fish.

Objective
