The smart tool for EU proposal drafters and grant writers CallforEurope is a consultancy that provides for professional information and assistance on European Policies, Programmes and Public Calls. Our mission is to support transparent knowledge and easy access to all of the opportunities offered by EU Programmes. We think that giving fresh information on such themes is a valid lever for boosting European Union integration.
Our support is intended to: • offer technical information on how to access to and manage EU grants and projects; • make people find new transnational partnerships throughout Europe; • stimulate public debate on how to access to EU funds. Our ambition is to serve as a technical resource center. We want to serve primarily those that usually work on writing applications and

Hello readers! In the 26th of June 2022 edition, we gave a look to a long series of new funding calls from European Institutitions and Agencies. Under the Horizon Europe Programme, 2 new calls funding circulation of brains were issued in favour of Ukrainian Startups and innovative SMEs and for projects involving researchers from widening countries. The WomenTechEU competition has been finally opened providing support to enterprises founded by women in the deeptech sector. The Erasmus+ programme is funding piot projects on the field of university collaborations across Europe supporting double degrees for students. A call on experimental activities in the field of fight against drug trafficking has been issued. Various other competitive calls under Horizon 2020-funded platform have been published this week. Objective
The aim is to support existing or the creation of up to one NCC in a maximum number of EuroHPC JU Participating States. The NCCs will provide HPC services to industry (in particular to SMEs), academia and public administrations, delivering tailored/modular solutions for a wide variety of users, with an aim to ease and foster the transition towards wider uptake of HPC in Europe. NCCs will be a focal point of HPC in the respective country, liaising with national initiatives in the area of HPC, facilitating access of national stakeholders to European HPC competences and opportunities in different industrial sectors and domains. SMEs will be central to the NCC’s activities. Academic institutions and stakeholders may be addressed only to a limited extent and most of the resources of an NCC will be dedicated to support local SMEs, industry and public services.
Eligible Activities
Set-up and operate one Competence Centre for HPC in a maximum number of EuroHPC JU Participating States. The NCC will represent the focal point of national competences in HPC and provide leading-edge knowledge to enable the development of innovative solutions in their constituency, taking into account national HPC needs and requirements emanating from different user communities (industry, academia, public administrations) and application domains.
Eligible Applicants
Public and private organisations established in the eligible countries and mandated by the competent national authorities to host a National Competence Centre for HPC. Beneficiaries established in the same country are expected to apply as ‘sole beneficiary

Objective
The traditional city innovation ecosystem is opening up to new models of innovation engaging citizens. An increasing number of cities are acting as test beds for innovation and run citizens-driven initiatives to find solutions for their relevant societal challenges. The public domain is particularly challenged with finding effective ways to ensure the mainstreaming of these practices into the ordinary urban development process. Successful practices are particularly crucial to enhance the city's capacity to attract new resources, funds and talents to stimulate the growth of breakthrough innovations. Moreover, collaboration and strengthening synergies among innovation ecosystems boost cities’ development and resilience to tackle urban challenges. For this reason, the European Capital of Innovation Awards will recognize the cities’ role as catalysers of the local innovation ecosystem and will stimulate new activities aimed at boosting gamechanging innovation.
Eligible Activities
A European prize to the most innovative cities ecosystems. The award will raise the profile of the cities that have developed and implemented innovative policies; established frameworks that boost breakthrough innovation; enhanced the city attractiveness towards investors, industry, enterprises and talents; helped to open up connections and strengthen links with other cities, promoting the replication of best practices in the innovation field; enhanced citizens' involvement in the decision-making process; and supported cities resilience. 1 winner: the winner (ranked 1st) will be named the European Capital of Innovation 2022 and will receive a prize of EUR 1 million. The prize is dedicated to recognise the winning city's innovative practices, raise its international profile, and enhance its capacity as a widely recognised role model city for urban innovation. 2 runners-up cities: top two cities (ranked 2nd and 3rd) with the most disruptive innovation practices that lead to outstanding impact will be awarded each a prize of 100 000 EUR.

The EU Prize for Women Innovators celebrates the women entrepreneurs4 behind gamechanging innovations. In doing so, the EU seeks to raise awareness of the need for more women innovators, and create role models for women and girls everywhere. The Prize is awarded to the women innovators who have created the largest impact on the innovation ecosystem by transforming ideas into new and advanced products and/or services to benefit people and planet. The prizes will boost public awareness of the potential, importance and contribution of women to the EU innovation ecosystem, and create role models, inspiring more women to become innovators themselves.

In the ‘Rising Innovators’ category, three prizes of EUR 50 000 are awarded to the three highest-ranked applications from promising ‘Rising Innovators’ under the age of 35.5

Towards the creation of a European Cancer Patient Digital Centre

Objective
The overall goal of the Mission on Cancer[1] and the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan[2] includes a better quality of life for patients and their families living with, and after, cancer. Project results will support the creation of a virtual European Cancer Patient Digital Centre (ECPDC), which is a federated network of patient controlled (national) health data infrastructures enabling the voluntary exchange of patients and survivors’ health data in a standardised approach, for primary and secondary use.
Eligible Activities
Proposals should address the existing challenges and develop a roadmap towards the creation of the ECPDC as a virtual, federated network of national infrastructures of patient-controlled health data (‘national or regional nodes’), taking into account synergies with the future UNCAN.eu platform, integrated within a larger European network of infrastructures, to which each Member State should have a single access portal. The proposals should draw on existing expertise at the EU[3] and national level and on EU- and Member State/Associated Country-tailored procedures for access, use and re-use of patient data. Moreover, synergies with the European Network of Cancer Registries[4] should be established to ensure the ECPDC will create an ecosystem on knowledge of cancer. It could also include a call centre function. In particular, proposals should take account of the results of a recently launched call on a pilot project for an EU infrastructure ecosystem for the secondary use of health data for research, policy-making and regulatory purposes[5], the future EU legislation on European Health Data Space (EHDS)[6], the future Cancer Survivor Smart-Card[7], the cancer use case under the 1+Million Genomes initiative (1+MG)[8], the Cancer Imaging Initiative[9] as well as the European Open Science Cloud[10]. Successful applicants will be asked to liaise with these different initiatives where applicable[11], with the Commission acting as a facilitator..

Objective
SmartAgriHubs offers funding to digital innovation services providers. This includes the overall lifecycle for developing, setting-up, offering, providing, testing, validating, refining as well as enhancing services for Digital Transformation and Innovation. You can receive either 70 or 100% of funding to cover your eligible costs. This shall help you to: • Become a regional partner for innovation in the agri-food domain, • Support preparation & realisation of Innovation Activities for free, and; • Join a pan-European Innovation Network as a Node in your region. Proposed work shall be coordinated by Digital Innovations Hubs (DIHs). As we consider a “Digital Innovation Hub” as a Role of an organisation than its only purpose, all kinds of organisations could apply that aim at the set-up and offering of DIH services.
Eligible Activities
Open call for projects coordinated by Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) that aim at services for the support of digital transformation in the agri-food domain. For this call, projects shall develop, innovate, provide, validate and/or improve services provided by Digital Innovation Hubs. Tangible innovation services shall be provided by DIHs. They shall aim at supporting the set-up and realisation of digital innovation activities realised by stakeholders of agri-food communities and related networks. One or more DIHs shall develop and/or deliver and validate their function as a service provider, helping agri-food companies and related stakeholders to become more competitive by improving their business, products and/or production processes. DIHs shall act as a one-stop shop, serving agri-food related companies within their region and making agri-food related businesses more competitive by speeding up the development and uptake of digital innovations. They help customers addressing their challenges in a business focused way and with a service model, offering services that would not be readily accessible elsewhere. The funded services available through a DIH shall enable any business to access the latest knowledge, expertise and technology for testing and experimenting with digital innovations relevant to their products, processes or business models.

Objective
Testing and measuring the feasibility and effectiveness of financial incentives for the takeback of small used/waste EEE and portable batteries in view of setting up a stakeholder platform. Bringing lifecycle into building policy – Level(s) case studies
Eligible Activities
The proposed project should test, as a primary objective, the feasibility and effectiveness of setting up financial incentives such as reward schemes, deposit refund schemes, the use of postal services and/or systems calculating the residual value of small electronics and portable batteries for subsequent reuse and/or recovery. Feasibility of the proposed solutions should also be checked at EU level. In particular, the project should prepare the ground to establish and bring together potentially in a single platform all relevant public and private actors. The objective of this project is to provide relevant information to the European Commission, based on real building project applications of the Level(s) indicators, so that the Commission in turn can produce case studies to the sector. Beyond the actual quantified indicators, when relevant for different options considered, the case studies should present in depth how building projects have applied the Level(s) indicators, such as in terms of when in the building projects they were used, which kinds of building professionals were involved, how the use of the indicators at different life cycle stages impacted the building process in terms of e.g. choice of design, material, process and collaboration.

Objective
Ecodesign and energy labelling for energy-related products enjoy widespread support by suppliers, retailers, consumers and citizens, but non-compliance with the requirements is a significant and growing concern (e.g. over 70% of products failing to meet the information requirements). Lack of awareness, knowledge or detailed understanding of the legislative provisions by economic operators is one of the likely main reasons, rather than bad will. The objective of this action is to increase visibility to operators of (existing) resources available to help them comply through increased outreach and proactive involvement by relevant stakeholders.
Eligible Activities
To address this, the proposed action(s) should establish a facility combining both reactive and proactive assistance to economic operators through targeted and timely information to increase their awareness, knowledge and understanding of the concerned Regulations. The precise nature of the action is very much left up to the project proposals to define, though attention should be also given to reaching small and medium size suppliers and retailers (e.g., those not engaged in trade associations and/or located in remote areas), for example on regulatory changes concerning new or rescaled energy labels. Actions should cover at least the following and have both a reactive and proactive nature:

Objective
The topic aims to alleviate energy poverty by addressing the poor energy efficiency of dwellings, as a key risk factor causing energy poverty (the other two being low incomes and high energy expenditure). Buildings are still responsible for 40% of Europe’s total energy consumption, and too many Europeans struggle to afford the energy bills for their poorly insulated dwellings with polluting heating/cooling systems. In accordance with the Clean Energy for All Europeans package, Member States, through their National Energy and Climate Plans and Long-Term Renovation Strategies (LTRS), must identify dwellings of people at risk of energy poverty and develop effective strategies for renovating these as a matter of priority. The Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU) (EED), as amended by Directive 2018/2002/EU[1], requires Member States to take into account the need to reduce energy poverty in the context of their energy efficiency obligations. In addition, the revised EPBD[2] requires Member States to target the least efficient building stock first (“worst first” principle), and address split-incentive dilemmas and market failures as part of the national LTRS. At the same time, the European Green Deal[3] sets out to ensure an energy transition that is socially just and inclusive, with the Renovation Wave[4] as its centrepiece. This is also supported by e.g. the Commission Recommendation on Energy Poverty
Eligible Activities
Proposed actions should facilitate the market uptake of renovation approaches for the large-scale rollout of building-related interventions for vulnerable districts, clusters of buildings, or groups of such buildings managed by e.g. common building management entities, social/public housing organisations, or private owners of a large housing stock, in line with the Renovation Wave and the Commission Recommendation on Energy Poverty. Activities should demonstrate the effectiveness and replicability of the proposed approaches for the energy renovation of vulnerable districts.

Objective
to support stakeholders to improve measurement of food waste and help implement food waste prevention in their operations and organisations. This call concretely targets the hospitality and food services sector. The European Commission is particularly looking for solutions and technologies that are ready to be implemented by SMEs since they are the main economic operators in this sector. Such solutions and technologies should be ready for implementation, in close-tomarket conditions, at industrial or commercial scale, during the duration of the project.
Eligible Activities
The grants would cover integration of food waste prevention in business operations such as (non-exhaustive list): - demand forecasting to match supply and demand, including coordination between operations/departments (e.g. bookings, purchasing, kitchen, transport…) - food procurement and purchase planning - food service operations: cooking, serving, meal presentation, consumption (kitchen waste, serving loss waste, plate leftovers) - food handling and storage (both cold and cooked food), inventory management - menu design, portion sizes, pricing strategy; - promoting consumer awareness (e.g. posters, information cards on tables, menus…) and behavioural change (e.g. size of dinnerware, doggy bags…); - training of staff; - redistribution of surplus food; - food waste monitoring and reporting

The call is open to both mono-beneficiaries as well as to multi-beneficiaries (consortium). In case of consortia, one of the beneficiaries should be a SME representative

Objective

The Expanding Investments Ecosystems should attract foreign investors into “modest’ and ‘moderate’ innovation ecosystems by raising awareness of local innovation ecosystems and their start-ups, as well as the potential of the whole region, to capital providers from across Europe.The action supports co-designed programmes of activities, of at least two years, proposed by business acceleration service providers and/or investor networks and clubs, located in less connected innovation ecosystems (‘modest’ and ‘moderate’) and innovation hubs (‘strong innovators’ and innovation leaders’), to facilitate the entry of funders in less connected innovation ecosystems through activities. To ensure that the impact of the action goes beyond consortium members and their respective countries, it is encouraged that the consortium works closely with innovation agencies from their respective territories and beyond, and seeks for synergies with relevant EU initiatives such as the Enterprise Europe Network.

Objective
The objective of this call is (i) to enhance EU-level actions against corruption to address the current and evolving security threats that corruption poses to citizens and the licit economy and (ii) to support the work carried out by Member States’ competent authorities in the prevention and fight against corruption.

The projects of this call should ensure they reach the relevant targets involved in the prevention of and fight against corruption, including: Citizens; Private Sector (e.g. SMEs, large companies and non-profit organisations); National authorities, in particular: o Specialised anti-corruption authorities: anti-corruption coordination body, specialised anti-corruption prosecution, audit institutions, tax and competition authorities, FIUs, financial institutions, o Authorities with competences in the field such as Ministries and/ or authorities linked to a particular high-risk sector (healthcare, construction, public procurement, etc.); Authorities at European level, in particular Europol, Eurojust, EPPO, OLAF, Target countries (if activities are expected to take place in certain countries, indicate here), EU Member States.
