The smart tool for EU proposal drafters and grant writers CallforEurope is a consultancy that provides for professional information and assistance on European Policies, Programmes and Public Calls. Our mission is to support transparent knowledge and easy access to all of the opportunities offered by EU Programmes. We think that giving fresh information on such themes is a valid lever for boosting European Union integration.

Our support is intended to: • offer technical information on how to access to and manage EU grants and projects; • make people find new transnational partnerships throughout Europe; • stimulate public debate on how to access to EU funds. Our ambition is to serve as a technical resource center. We want to serve primarily those that usually work on writing applications and

managing projects through European funding. Call them “Euro-drafters” or “Euro-experts”: in any case, their activity demands high specialization and a constant updating on European policies, programs and public calls. Hello readers! In the 24th of July 2022 edition, we gave a look to all the new funding calls published recently. Under Horizon Europe a new award competition was recently published for Gender Equality Champions in academies across Europe. The Just Transition Mechanism funds projects addressing social, economic and environmental challenges deriving from the transition towards the EU’s 2030 climate and energy targets. Synergy projects are now funded by the European Research Council to be proposed by Principal Investigators working together. The Marie Curie-Slodowska Actions (Cofund and Staff Exchanges) have been published to be then opened since next october. Other opportunities have been monitored under the LIFE Programme, the Single Market Programme and through competitive open calls. Have a good read!

Objective

In this Interoperable-by-Design Prototypes Open Call, InterConnect is looking for Bottom-up projects that will develop and test novel Interoperable applications or services for smart homes and grids, with a clear societal and economic value, on top of the InterConnect’s Interoperability Framework. These highly innovative projects should aim to build a more comfortable and healthier living space at lower costs and enable their active participation in the energy system and market.

Eligible Activities

Challenge A - Semantic Interoperability for smart homes and buildings: Solutions focused on building semantically interoperable services and ecosystems between different energy and non-energy systems within a building. Challenge B - Interoperable services for Demand Side Flexibility: Solutions focused on demand side flexibility and its cross-domain dimensions. Planning engines have now reached a maturity that makes them highly useful for realworld applications. Still, their application in practise is sometimes hindered by the fact that the planning world is quite heterogeneous, without a common programming interface that makes the technology easily accessible. Moreover, it can be very hard, even for experts, to reliably predict which technique will work well on a certain problem. Thus, it is important that a user needs not to commit to a certain technique at an early stage of adoption but can at any time easily try out and switch to other, better-suited planning technology. AIPlan4EU aims at solving these problems: it will offer state-of-the-art planning technology through a unified API designed for practitioners and validated on practical use-cases.

Eligible Activities

AIPlan4EU is currently looking for individuals and companies to provide AI Planning use-cases. The AIPlan4EU open calls aim to upgrade third parties’ capacity to leverage AI planning technology in various sectors and offer financial support for European individuals, companies and innovators to experiment in highly innovative, cross-border experiments.

Eligible Applicants

Funding €1500 per use-case in Open Call 3 for Use-Cases. The opportunity to be funded up to €30.000 to support the use-case implementation in the future open calls. Project results are expected to contribute to the following expected outcomes, depending on the choice between focus on food or/and feed ingredients: Availability of premium (i.e., nutritious, healthy, functional and environmentally sustainable) food ingredients meeting consumers’ expectations, including on economic level. Availability of high added value sustainable feed ingredients, ensuring nutritional quality and health and safety profile. Rebalanced ratio between animal and plant-based proteins in human consumption, needed for healthy food supply respecting the planetary boundaries[1]. Contribution to the sustainable food supply for a growing world population (SDG 2 Zero hunger). Increased circularity of biomass resources, and resource efficiency, as confirmed by the LCA assessments, leading to improved EU strategic autonomy via reduction/replacement of imports.

Validate at large scale the processing and production of food ingredients from sustainable alternative sources, demonstrating their clear-cut environmental sustainability gains, and reduced environmental footprint, compared to existing alternatives, as based on peerreviewed life-cycle analysis. Contribute to the EU sustainability targets under the Farm to Fork strategy and the European Green Deal, such as reduction in fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, water and energy ensuring a holistic approach. These sources may include e.g., novel crops, plant-based resources, fungi, algae (micro and macro), microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, etc.), biomass side streams or food waste. Ensure that food safety criteria are met, and that any circularity approach is achieved in a safe, non-hazardous way, without (re-)connecting epidemiological pathways or introducing pathogen/toxin/pollutant enrichment cycles when involving biogenic materials, show sustainability of production, reduced environmental footprint compared with alternative sources.

KICs will undertake in particular: (a) innovation activities and investments with Union added value; (b) innovation-driven research, experimentation, prototyping and demonstration in areas of key economic, environmental and societal interest and drawing on the results stemming from Union and national research; (c) education and training activities in particular at master's and doctoral level, as well as professional training courses, in areas with the potential to meet future European socio-economic and socio-ecological needs and which expand the Union’s talent base, promote the development of innovation-related skills; (d) actions as part of the pilot higher education initiative to better integrate HEIs in innovation value chains and ecosystems; (e) outreach activities and the dissemination of best practices in the field of innovation with a focus on the development of cooperation between higher education, research and business, including the service and financial sectors, and, where relevant, public and third sector organisations;(f) RIS activities, fully integrated in the KICs’ multiannual strategy and linked to the relevant smart specialisation strategies; (g) to seek synergies and complementarities between KIC activities and existing Union, national and regional programmes; (h) to mobilise funds from public and private sources; (i) to provide, on request, information on research and innovation outputs and results, and related intellectual rights.

KICs will undertake in particular: (a) innovation activities and investments with Union added value; (b) innovation-driven research, experimentation, prototyping and demonstration in areas of key economic, environmental and societal interest and drawing on the results stemming from Union and national research; (c) education and training activities in particular at master's and doctoral level, as well as professional training courses, in areas with the potential to meet future European socio-economic and socioecological needs and which expand the Union’s talent base, promote the development of innovation-related skills; (d) actions as part of the pilot higher education initiative to better integrate HEIs in innovation value chains and ecosystems; (e) outreach activities and the dissemination of best practices in the field of innovation with a focus on the development of cooperation between higher education, research and business, including the service and financial sectors, and, where relevant, public and third sector organisations;(f) RIS activities, fully integrated in the KICs’ multiannual strategy and linked to the relevant smart specialisation strategies; (g) to seek synergies and complementarities between KIC activities and existing Union, national and regional programmes; (h) to mobilise funds from public and private sources; (i) to provide, on request, information on research and innovation outputs and results, and related intellectual rights.

Eligible Activities

SNAPs shall actively involve the main stakeholders necessary for the implementation of the targeted plan or strategy. They should be involved in both the design and implementation of the given project. This involvement is expected to be achieved by including them - where possible and reasonable - as associated beneficiaries of the SNAP, or through their active participation in the implementation of the SNAP itself and/ or of the complementary actions. SNAPs should facilitate and result in the building up of strategic capacities among the competent authorities and stakeholders to ensure a long-term sustainability of project results and actions, and to ensure that they will be able to function as co-deliverers of the targeted plan or strategy after the end of the SNAP. Depending on the needs of the given Members States (or regions) as identified in their PAFs or in other nature and biodiversity plans (which must be available by the time a SNAP full proposal is submitted), the set of measures to be included in a SNAP programme of actions shall include the following: institutional support and capacity building actions; mobilisation and coordination of additional finance for complementary actions, in particular from other EU funding instruments and programmes.

Through the development of new jobs and growth, diversification, and revitalisation of the economy in rural areas, ensure fair benefit distribution among all actors involved, with a focus on the primary sector.

Eligible Activities

The sustainable mobilisation and valorisation of secondary resources can result in the creation of new economic and social opportunities in rural areas, while also protecting the environment and climate. Implementing these new opportunities needs the establishment of new bio-based systems, new business models and interactions between primary producers and other actors all the way to consumers, as well as ensuring circularity. However, individual farmers usually do not have the financial and technical capacity to invest in the necessary infrastructure or to provide a sufficient quantity and quality of these biological resources to make innovative valorisations economically viable. Farmers’ cooperatives and producer organisations play an important role in helping farmers to capture a higher share of the value added in the supply chain, to strengthen their position on the market as well as in the areas of R&I, capacity building, and knowledge transfer. This topic addresses cooperative business models among primary producers for the efficient conversion of agricultural residues, by-products, and waste into high-value bio-based materials and products with improved sustainability characteristics. Proposals under this topic should: Demonstrate the potential of contractual agreements or fully developed shareholder/ownership concepts (e.g., cooperatives or producer organisations) to optimise harvesting, logistics and processing of secondary bio-based feedstock at relevant scales

In line with the Farm to Fork strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system, biodiversity strategy, and the European Green Deal priorities, successful proposals will support the large-scale production of high value food and or feed ingredients from alternative sustainable sources (excluding animal sources), without impacting or regenerating local biodiversity and ecosystems. Project results are expected to contribute to the following expected outcomes, depending on the choice between focus on food or/and feed ingredients: Availability of premium (i.e., nutritious, healthy, functional and environmentally sustainable) food ingredients meeting consumers’ expectations, including on economic level. Availability of high added value sustainable feed ingredients, ensuring nutritional quality and health and safety profile. Rebalanced ratio between animal and plant-based proteins in human consumption, needed for healthy food supply respecting the planetary boundaries. Contribution to the sustainable food supply for a growing world population (SDG 2 Zero hunger). Increased circularity of biomass resources, and resource efficiency, as confirmed by the LCA assessments, leading to improved EU strategic autonomy via reduction/replacement of imports. Public awareness and acceptance of bio-based solutions. Support market uptake growth and acceptance of scalable bio-based solutions.

Eligible Activities

Proposals under this topic should: Validate at large scale the processing and production of food ingredients from sustainable alternative sources, demonstrating their clear-cut environmental sustainability gains, and reduced environmental footprint, compared to existing alternatives, as based on peer-reviewed life-cycle analysis. Contribute to the EU sustainability targets under the Farm to Fork strategy and the European Green Deal, such as reduction in fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, water and energy ensuring a holistic approach. These sources may include e.g., novel crops, plantbased resources, fungi, algae (micro and macro), microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, etc.), biomass side streams or food waste.

Objective

The public sector plays a key role in delivering the energy transition, with a unique mandate over their public assets and a unique convening power on actors across the value chain. The European Green Deal’s Renovation Wave[1] aims to double the renovation rate of buildings by 2030, which requires also massive investment into the public building stock. Moreover, Member States have to set out measures in their longterm renovation strategies in order to ensure a highly energy efficient and decarbonised national building stock and in order to facilitate the cost-effective transformation of existing buildings into zero-energy buildings[2]. In line with the REPowerEU plan[3] to phase out EU dependence on fossil fuels imports, the public sector is called to play a key role in reducing its energy consumptions through building renovations. The challenge remains to upscale ambitious energy renovations of public buildings to demonstrate the exemplary role of the public authorities in decarbonising their assets and leading the way towards the European clean energy transition. Hence, facilitation structures (e.g. onestop-shops or similar) are needed at regional and national levels that can support a larger number of public project promoters in designing and delivering ambitious renovation projects in the public sector at scale and capitalising on existing solutions.

The project should contribute to all of the following expected outcomes: The establishment and development of a network of and for the cultural and creative industries (CCIs)[1] in the EU Member States and associated countries, covering the diversity of the CCIs in terms of sectors, countries and company size, with particular attention to small and medium-sized enterprises[2]. Well-founded and prioritised recommendations for EU policy on R&I and in other key areas for the CCIs, including to contribute to the 2030 objectives of the European Green Deal[3], notably in terms of environmental sustainability, while strengthening competitiveness and internationalisation. Structurally strengthened cooperation between CCIs across sectorial, geographical and cultural borders, as well as between CCIs and other economic sectors[4], empowering the CCIs to assume a proactive innovation-driving role, resulting in more innovations with a cultural and creative base. European CCIs ready for the green and digital transitions.

Eligible Activities

Proposals should show how projects will: Establish a strong, inclusive and representative network of and for the CCIs with a focus on research and innovation. The network should extend across CCI sectors at EU[7] level, and establish connections to other important economic sectors. It should be an inclusive platform, which taps into the business potential of all CCI actors while supporting the green and digital transitions. The network should have the capacity to strengthen the innovation ecosystem, by facilitating cooperation, mutual learning and capacity building within R&I for and with the CCIs. Important aspects of the network include interoperability and scale. A collaborative platform should be used to this end. Contribute to the design and prioritisation of EU policy actions, particularly R&I policy actions, that will create favourable conditions for the growth of a dynamic and wellfunctioning CCI-driven innovation ecosystem. This should include at least the following: Assess needs for future R&I actions for the CCIs, and set up a priority list per sector and company size. Map the needs of the CCIs in terms of technology investment, skills, policy and regulation, etc. to allow them to contribute to the EU’s 2030 Green Deal goals as well as to the digital transition. Assess these needs at national & European levels and provide recommendations for EU level action. Identify and propose key policy actions, including suitable regulatory innovation frameworks, needed to foment the creation of a culture and creativity driven European innovation ecosystem. Proposals should also show how projects will contribute to raise awareness of the social, economic and job creation capacity of the CCIs, for example by means of demonstrations of innovations or novelties, along with other information and dissemination activities.

Objective

The present Call for Proposals aims at funding projects on better law enforcement in the area of illicit drug trafficking. Project applications submitted under the present Call for Proposals must address at least one of the following priorities: 1. Investigations and other law enforcement activities aimed at disruption of illicit drug trafficking, and dismantling storage and production facilities for illicit drugs. 2. Activities aimed at facilitating the exchange of operational information for capacity building in order to prevent drug-related crime. 3. Activities aimed to prevent drug use and raise awareness of the adverse effects of drugs. 4. Joint training programmes for law enforcement authorities to enhance the EU's capacity to target drug trafficking.

Eligible Activities

a)) analytical, monitoring and evaluation activities, including threat, risk and impact assessments, which are evidence based and consistent with priorities and initiatives identified at Union level; projects promoting networking, public-private partnerships, mutual confidence, understanding and learning, identification and dissemination of best practices and innovative approaches at Union level, training and exchange programmes; c) projects supporting the development of methodological, notably statistical, tools and methods and common indicators; d) the acquisition, maintenance and/or further upgrading of technical equipment, expertise, secure facilities, infrastructures, related buildings and systems, especially ICT systems and their components at the Union level; e) activities enhancing awareness of Union policies and objectives among stakeholders and the general public; f) particularly innovative projects developing new methods and/or deploying new technologies; g) studies and pilot projects.

Eligible Applicants

be legal entities (public or private bodies); − be established in one of the eligible countries, i.e.:; − EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs)), excluding Denmark,; − non-EU countries: without any limitation as long as relevant for the call for proposals in view of their advanced competences. Proposals must be submitted by: − minimum 2 applicants (beneficiaries; not affiliated entities) from 2 different eligible countries.
