Explore your creativity through engaging and enriching arts and culture activities.

Connect with others through vibrant and meaningful community events that include the Project Heroes Concert (p22), Vibe High Crystal Bowl Sound Session (p22), and Mask Your Joy: Purim Craft Workshop (p22).

Re-energize your routine in our fitness spaces with Buti Yoga (p34), Ski Conditioning (p34), Bonefit (p36), or Yoga for Men (p36). New for January is our Parkinson’s-Focused Personal Training (p37).

Registration Opens

Please note that in-person registration at the JCC will be on a first-come basis, and will commence at 8:00am. *To receive a discount on children’s recreational programs (see pages 11 and 17).

How to Register

Online registration is now available at mycalgaryjcc.com. Program registration and payment can also be made in person or by phone (403-253-8600 x0).

• All registrations must be paid in full at the time of registration.

• An active membership is required for the entire duration of a course or program to receive the member rates.

• We accept Visa, MasterCard, cheques, cash, debit, and Personally Approved Payment Plan (PAPP).

Refund Policy

The JCC reserves the right to cancel any program due to lack of enrollment, with a full refund. All customer withdrawals for seasonal programs are subject to the following administration fees: • 11 days or more prior to the start of the program: 10% administration fee.

• 10 days or fewer of the program start date: 25% administration fee.

• Option to leave a credit on account: No administration fee. Credit must be used within one year. After one year, funds will be donated to the JCC. If the program has started, the JCC does not offer refunds or credits. No prorating is available for absences during programs or service. Year around programs require 30-day (calendar month) written notice.

Membership Freeze or Medical Hold

Members have the option of putting their JCC membership on hold for up to 90 days if they plan to be away from the JCC for any extended period. If you are a snowbird and travel south for the winter, or an avid summer golfer, put your membership on hold for a fee of $30 plus GST for a family or couple membership and $15 plus GST for individual, student or senior, and have that time added to the tail-end of your membership.

Memberships can only be frozen once per membership year. No refunds will be issued.

Memberships may also be placed on hold for medical needs provided a doctor’s note is submitted to the JCC Customer Service Desk. No fee will be charged. Note: All people falling within the membership unit are subject to the conditions of a membership freeze.

Loss of Membership Privileges

The use of physical force against another person or with the intent of damaging JCC property may result in suspension or loss of membership privileges. Verbal abuse will be handled in the same way as physical force, and may also result in suspension or loss of membership privileges.

Personal training is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Guest Passes

Members may bring guests to the JCC as often as they wish during the year. Guest passes may be purchased at the Customer Service Desk. Passes are valid for one day only (please make note of expiration date).

Lockers and Change Rooms

Full and half lockers are available for daily use at no charge. Half lockers are available for $ 75 + GST per year. Membership cards can be used to borrow day locks from the JCC Customer Service Desk. There is a $5 charge for lost locks or keys. Locks left on overnight will be removed and lockers emptied. The JCC will not be responsible for valuables left in or removed from lockers. Out of respect for our members, children six years and older will not be allowed in the locker rooms of their opposite sex. Universal change rooms are available.

Yearly Towel Rental Service

Yearly towel service is available for everyone.

Please inquire at the JCC Customer Service Desk. One towel per visit is $150 or two towels per visit is $220. Individual towels can be rented for $350 (GST not included).

Supervision Policy The JCC requires that an adult must accompany a child under eight at all times.

MEMBERSHIP

Children eight to 18 may be dropped off unsupervised for short periods, but the JCC reserves the right to require parents to provide supervision. The JCC provides fully supervised camps for school days off.

Children nine to 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times when using the Fitness Centre.

When swimming, children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult who is “within arms reach” at all times.

Attire We require appropriate attire in all areas of the facilities. Shirts and shoes are required in all areas except the locker rooms. The JCC reserves the right to determine what is appropriate clothing. For safety purposes, proper footwear must be worn in the physical activity spaces. Absolutely no outdoor shoes are permitted in any of the fitness areas; no shoes on pool deck.

Referral Program

EARN A Refer a friend to the JCC FREE and earn a free month MONTH! on your next renewal year! When your friend purchases an annual membership an extra month will be added to your next year’s membership just to thank you for spreading the news about the JCC. There is no limit to referrals.

Kashrut Policy Because the JCC is a meeting place for Jewish people of all religious affiliations and practices, all food in the building must be kosher.

Photo Disclaimer From time to time, any audio / visual media taken from JCC programs and activities will be used in marketing through various media formats. Participation in JCC programs and activities implies consent for use of any photos or videos for our marketing purposes.

CHILDCARE Licensed and Accredited Childcare At the JCC, caring for your child isn’t a job, we consider it a privilege. That’s why we do all we can to ensure your child’s time with us is as fulfilling as possible.

Affordable, accessible, and high-quality childcare with the support of the Alberta Affordability Grant, children also have a variety of program options available throughout the day including swimming, dance, all ball multi-sports, and more.

Nutritious, kosher snacks and meals are provided on a daily basis and our entire staff is fully certified.

We require a $20 wait list fee per child.

Register your child in any JCC children’s recreational program throughout the childcare day before Sunday, December 14, 2025 and receive a 20% early bird discount on the registration fee.

Specifically designed for three-yearolds. This program offers a variety of activities that help prepare children for junior kindergarten or the next stage in our programming, KidStart Literacy. It includes crafts, creative movement, drama, science, gross motor play, fine motor activities and interactive play. Led by a licensed early childhood educator, this program fosters socialization, boosts self esteem, and lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Please note: Participants must be toilet-trained.

This school-readiness program is designed for children before they enter kindergarten. Taught by a certified early childhood educator, it caters to various learning styles through engaging activities including music, dance, movement, literacy games, hands-on experiences and traditional seat work. The awardwinning Handwriting without Tears preschool program is used to develop skills such as letter and number recognition and formation, counting, drawing, shapes and colours. This class taps into the natural curiosity of young learners while teaching the essential foundations for their next step in education.

The programs run until June 2026 and follow the CBE Calendar.

Half Day Programs for Kindergarten Children | 11am-6pm Please note: Classes may have limited spots or be sold out.

The Kids ‘R’ Us program is designed to provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for children in kindergarten, following their morning attendance in school. The program offers a thoughtful balance of structured activities and free play, supporting the development of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Our approach is grounded in the belief that every child is unique and deserves personalized support as they grow and thrive.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive atmosphere where children feel valued, engaged, and inspired—making their time outside of regular school hours both enjoyable and meaningful.

Kids Can Dance - Mondays

In partnership with The Dance Compound, this high-energy program blends fun activities with music and movement to inspire your child’s love of dance.

Kids will explore styles such as acro, hip-hop, musical theatre, and more, building creativity, confidence and coordination in every class.

Kids Can Swim - Tuesdays

Get your child comfortable in the water with lessons tailored to their level.

Our instructors help build functional swimming skills through the JSwim Lifesaving Society program offered onsite.

Kids Science - Wednesdays

Kids Can Create - Thursdays

Children develop new skills by designing unique creations using a variety of art materials. They will learn the basics of lines and shapes as the foundation of drawing and explore the creative process to make individual and sophisticated artwork throughout the year.

Kids Get Moving - Fridays

This dynamic class introduces children to a variety of ball sports including basketball, soccer, and other fun games. They will develop key skills like hand-eye coordination, teamwork and basic sports techniques in a supportive and energetic environment. Perfect for building confidence, fitness and a life-long love of being active.

Transportation

Transportation is provided to the JCC for participants from Chinook Park, Nellie McClung, and Louis Riel.

CHILDREN

Designed to spark curiosity, this program offers interactive, age-appropriate science experiences. Kids will enjoy demonstrations, perform simple experiments and discover how science helps us understand the world around us.

This multi-sport class for preschoolers focuses on the basic skills common to all sports: balance, coordination, stamina, and timing. We create a fun, supportive, non-competitive setting that emphasizes teamwork. Each class focuses on different popular sports.

FITNESS FOR YOUTH ORIENTATIONS Youth orientations allow pre-teens and teens to become familiar with the equipment in the fitness centre and provide them with the confidence and knowledge to safely enjoy the space. Fitness centre etiquette, exercise choice, proper exercise form, and safe loading will be covered in the free, one-hour session.

Pre-Teens (Ages 9-11) Upon completion of a pre-teen youth orientation, youth may access the Fitness Centre in the company of a parent or guardian. Participants learn how to use appropriate cardio equipment and perform functional strength exercises using bodyweight and portable equipment such as TRX, BOSUs, and balance balls. A parent or guardian is required to take the preteen orientation with their youth.

Teens (Ages 12-14) Upon completion of a teen youth orientation, youth may access the Fitness Centre without a parent or guardian present. Participants learn how to use cardio equipment, pin-loaded and strength equipment, appropriate free weights, and functional equipment.

Tu B’Shevat February 2 | 15 Shevat

Also known as the New Year of the Trees because it was used for calculating the age of trees for tithing. The Torah teaches that fruit from a tree may not be eaten during the first three years; the fourth year’s fruit is for G-d, and after this, you can eat the fruit. It is customary to eat a new fruit on this holiday or to eat from the Seven Species (shivat haminim) that are abundant in Israel.

The Seven Species are: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives,and dates. Some people also plant trees on this day. Tu B’Shevat began as a minor holiday marked by a festive meal and it has grown into a modern Jewish Earth Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate our growing sense of environmental responsibility and Jewish tradition.

Fast of Esther March 2 | 13 Adar

This fast, also called Ta’anit Esther, is from dawn until dusk on Purim eve, commemorating the three-day fast observed by the Jewish people in the story of Purim.

March 3 | 14 Adar

This jolly festivity commemorates the defeat of Haman’s plot, the prime minister of King Ahasuerus of the Persian Empire. During 357 BCE, Haman planned to massacre the Jews, as recorded in the book of Esther in the Torah. The Jews were saved by the heroic Queen Esther, who married Ahasuerus.

When Ahasuerus discovered that his wife Esther was Jewish, he decided to reverse Haman’s decree, and instead of the Jews being killed, Haman, his sons, and other enemies were killed instead. We celebrate dressing up in costume, some people choose to dress as characters from the Purim story. It is a mitzvah (commandment) to listen to the story of Purim chanted from Megillat Esther (The Scroll of Esther). We also send mishloach manot, packages of treats and goodies to friends and family.

A traditional cookie is eaten called Hamantaschen, which our Adults 55+ department at the JCC bake every year!

Shushan Purim March 4 | 15 Adar

The battles fought between the Jews and their enemies throughout the Persian empire took place on 13th of Adar 13. The Jews rested and celebrated the victory on the following day.

However, the fighting lasted longer in the Persian capital of Shushan. The victory celebration was held on the 15th of Adar in Shushan.

JFins Junior Master Swim Club Ages 8-15 Join us for a weekly recreational water workout! This swim club is for anyone interested in keeping up with their swimming at a non-competitive level.

From endurance and interval training to stroke enhancement, these workouts will vary in distance and intensity.

Prerequisites: treading for two minutes then 300 meters continuous swimming (100 front crawl, 100 back crawl, and 100 breaststroke).

JFins Livesaving Club Ages 10-15 Too young to take your national lifeguarding certifications? Completed your swimming levels but not wanting to commit to a swim team schedule?

That’s okay – come spend time with a trained lifeguard to build your lifesaving skills. Our new Lifesaving Club is a fun and recreational way for youth to learn the basic necessities of becoming a lifeguard. Join the club to meet new friends, stay fit, and learn on both dryland and in the water. Develop your aquatics and first aid skills as you try out a variety of lifeguard activities to prepare for the national lifeguard standards.

Our Lifesaving Club members will be given the building blocks to grow in their leadership skills, lifesaving, knowledge, teamwork, communication, and personal fitness. Pool Rules

2. Anybody eight years and older who shows signs of weak swimming may be asked to use a lifejacket or can challenge the swim test. If the swim test is completed then no lifejacket and no adult supervision is required. If the swim test is not passed, patron must wear a lifejacket.

3. To help more people swim safely, please circuit swim when there are 3 or more swimmers in a lane. This means keeping to the right side of the lane and only passing in the middle when safe.

Swim Test (as recommended by the Lifesaving Society): Sixty seconds treading water with head fully out of the water, immediately followed by 25 meters swim without stopping.

One long, loud whistle blast means clear the pool.

Please note: • Must take a head to toe shower with soap before entering the pool.

• Consult and get permission from your doctor if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or are 65+ years.

• Max. of three children under 8 years may be supervised by one caregiver, 16+ years.

• No urinating in or fouling the pool.

• Children 0-2 years and anyone incontinent must wear a swim diaper and waterproof pool pants.

• No diving in shallow end.

• No outdoor shoes.

• No glass, food, gum or drink.

• No running, rough play, offensive behaviour or foul language.

Do not use pool if you: • Have been told not to by a regional health authority or doctor.

• Have diarrhea or have had diarrhea in the past two weeks.

• Have an infectious or communicable disease, sores, and / or wounds.

• Are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Aqua Fitness

FREE FOR MEMBERS We offer a large selection of aqua fitness classes FREE to our members. The general public may pay a drop-in fee (see page 8) to attend the class.

Experience a fitness class in the pool! Water has a thousand times more resistance to that of air so it can provide an awesome workout.

It is suitable for everyone as all movements use the body’s own resistance.

Our aqua fitness classes are 50 minutes in length and are led by a team of highlyqualified instructors. The components of all fitness classes include: a warm up, cardiovascular conditioning, muscle and core strengthening, and stretching. There is an average of 16 aqua fitness classes that run weekly. They vary in intensity and fitness level so as to meet the needs and abilities of all our adult and older members.

Aqua Variety A challenging class offering a variety of formats and styles from week to week. This class will rotate from equipment use classes to interval training, tether, and a taste of aqua healing.

As You Choose Participants are free to choose to work out in the deep water wearing a flotation belt or in the shallow water with their feet on the floor.

With careful attention and preparation, the instructor is able to teach to all participants.

Shallow Water Workout Activate your aqua urge for exercise! This class is held in the pool’s shallow end in chest-deep water so your feet are always touching the floor. Shallow water workouts improve agility, coordination, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. Equipment may be used to develop strength and balance.

Tether Deep Water Workout Aquafit enthusiasts will benefit from this fun cardiovascular workout in the deep water!

There is a strong focus on core stability while performing deep water moves which will result in increased intensity. Participants will find themselves tethered to a lane rope with a bungee cord attached to a belt. Great for beginner to advanced!

Designed for people with Parkinson’s, this program assists to mitigate symptoms and rebuild mobility and functionality.

The skills we teach can be practiced in multiple positions, can be made progressively more physically and cognitively challenging, and can be altered to target each person’s unique symptoms.

A one time assessment is required prior to enrolment. Approximately one hour in duration, the assessment covers varying balance tests as well as gait and mobility analyses. It also includes two complimentary classes. Barre. Ballet-based fitness with weight intervals and core conditioning. This class will lengthen, strengthen, and tone your thighs, arms, abdominals, and glutes. For all levels.

Cardio Remix. This class will boost your endorphins and leave you smiling! Feel-good, fun, cardio intervals might be plyometric (muscle building), high impact or low impact – but they’ll always leave you sweating and smiling. We add a dash of strength training so you’re set for the day.

Gentle Yoga. Designed for those who prefer a slower paced or more relaxed practice, as well as those with minor physical ailments.

Sunrise Spin. Wake up and welcome the new day with an explosion of energy, music, and good vibes! An invigorating mix of high energy drills, interval training, and strength rides, this class will build muscle and kick your cardio training into high gear.

Strength Circuit. Boost your muscular strength and endurance in this all-level workout designed to challenge your whole body. Using weights to target specific muscle groups, this energizing session delivers a conditioning blast!

Expect a dynamic mix of formats, including functional movements, athletic training combos, and unilateral exercises to correct imbalances and strengthen your core.

Tone & Sculpt. Shape, tone, and define your muscles using a variety of fitness equipment including weighted bars, free weights, and exercise balls. Target every muscle group for a total-body toning workout – improving strength, balance, and coordination while defining muscles.

Living

Stay active, feel supported, and move at your own pace. The Active Living program is designed for individuals managing chronic conditions. Led by experienced and compassionate instructors, each class offers modifications to help you feel confident and comfortable while making sure that all the major components of a fitness class are included. The Active Living Program is $46 per month1 and includes in-person and virtual Active Living classes as well as Everfit, Urban Poling and Aqua Fitness classes. You also have the option to only attend the virtual classes for $28 per month1. Choose the option that works best for your lifestyle and location. Gentle Chair Yoga (In-person & Zoom) Bring out your inner Yogi! This class will have you doing all of the wonderful things in traditional yoga, but in a gentler way.

We get it – some days, getting down on the ground is not easy. We want your body to feel amazing and safe through guided stretches and yoga flows while you sit comfortably in a chair.

Easy Going (In-person & Zoom) Perfect for adults seeking a softer, more supportive approach to fitness, this class blends seated warm-up and strength exercises with gentle, weight-bearing movement. Participants will enjoy light walking and guided balance work using a dance bar for added stability. It’s an ideal way to build strength, improve mobility, and support overall wellness—at a pace that feels comfortable and safe.

Keep Going (In-person) This standing fitness class is designed for adults managing chronic conditions who are ready for a bit more challenge—without sacrificing joint-friendly movement. Enjoy a variety of low-impact formats that build strength, stamina, and balance while keeping things fresh and engaging. It’s a great next step for those who want to stay active and keep progressing at their own pace.

Get Going (In-person & Zoom) This primarily seated low-impact class focuses on improving strength, mobility, and confidence in everyday activities. Enjoy a supportive environment with walking, seated, and standing movements to gently elevate your heart rate. Strength, balance, and flexibility exercises are performed either seated or standing behind a chair, making it accessible and adaptable.

Mindful Movement! (In-person) This is a unique program that blends gentle movement, brain-training exercises, and breathing techniques to restore your posture, release stiffness and bring back your natural vitality.

Continuous monthly program fees; no annual commitment required. Can be cancelled with 30 days written notice with a minimum of a two-month commitment.

COME PLAY, SWIM, MOVE, AND CREATE – SUNDAYS ARE FOR FAMILY FUN AT THE JCC! Join us for Sunday Funday—your family’s go-to day for active play and community fun at the JCC! Enjoy open gym, family swim, and indoor playground adventures. Look for our Feature Pop-Up Sunday Activities such as: Toddler Time, Bouncy Castle, and a Family High Fitness Class to get everyone moving together.

Babysitting is available from 9:00 to 11:00am. Parents can drop off their children (ages 3 to 8 years) for care while they workout. Member: Free • Public: $10 Please note the schedule for each area, including age guidelines and activity times, so everyone knows where the fun fits best!
