BRIGHT FUTURES START NOW. Calgary Academy™ launched its first-ever Kindergarten class, welcoming 10 young learners in 2019.
LEGACY FILM. We were delighted to capture the story of the founding of Calgary Academy, and featured its impact on current student, Ava’s life and learning.

COMMUNITY FIRST. The Fall Welcome event gathered nearly 1,000 people. Students, families, and staff celebrated the start of a great school year with fun , food, and family.

SUPPORT FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT. The James Chaput Bursary Fund provided $230,000 in bursaries in 2019-20, in addition, $100,000 of funds raised by the Calgary Academy Parents’ Association (CAPA) supported our students. In total, 30 students benefitted from bursaries to CA.
I’m not 100% sure what the future holds. At some point, I want to publish a book or short story somewhere. Maybe I’ll go into law. But I definitely see myself still writing. Kenzie Boyd GRADE 8

HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Junior High student Kenzie Boyd placed as a finalist in The New York Times’ annual Student Editorial Contest. Her essay focused on how fairy tales need an update to include modern values and lessons for future generations— most notably, that girls aren’t always damsels in distress, but capable of having their own adventures.
SOLVING REAL-WORLD CHALLENGES. High School student Gage Ferguson was featured on CTV Morning Live Calgary when a video clip of a seizure collar he created for his dog, Smudge, caught a reporter’s attention on Twitter. Gage shared the story of how he used a micro: bit computer to create the motion-detection collar.

STAYING CONNECTED. On May 6, 2020, we had the pleasure of virtually hosting over 200 parent and staff attendees for the Arlette Speaker Series! Our guest, Dr. Jody Carrington, is a renowned child psychologist who provided an insightful and inspiring talk on connecting with those around you. In the early days of COVID-19, the focus on connection was so crucial as everyone looked for strategies for managing relationships while physically distancing. This free event was made possible by a generous donation from the Arlette Education Fund at the Calgary Foundation.

DELIVERING JOY. Staying connected while being separated during emergency online learning was key, so Scorcher and staff delivered REACH celebration prizes and welcome gifts to current and incoming students.

REAL-LIFE LEARNING. Following the shift to remote learning, many teachers had to revamp planned projects to continue teaching in a virtual world. Chemistry 30 students explored the question “What can we do about the problem of plastics in our local landfills” and created a proposal to present to Calgary City Council. While most of the council members were played by teachers, Mayor Nenshi was able to join and bring greetings!
EMERGENCY FUND. Donors funded nearly $10,000 during our first spring appeal to support the emergency fund and CA families in need of tuition support.

KEEPING SCORE. Current parents and donor Dave Tidmarsh and his company, William Blake Homes, supported Knights Athletics and gave our scoring table a much-needed upgrade! We can’t wait to light it up and show it off when sports and events begin again.
GRADS GIVE BACK. The 2020 Graduating Class established the Legacy Fund, raising over $2,400 through student fundraisers and encouraging donations of $20.20. The Legacy Fund honoured its first recipient at Grad 2020, Rwan Abdelraouf.

RALLYING FOR A CAUSE. CA celebrated the 20th Dig Pink Volleyball Tournament in 2019! This year, the community raised over $8,500 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
