3 Highlander Time Means A Lot of Different Things

Every Silver Day from 9:45 to 11:14, it's our time.

Good Better Best

Registering to Vote: "I think voting is a way of making my mark on history, as cheesy as that sounds. In Egypt, where I was raised, elections were unfair and relatively pointless, but here it's not like that."· Rafik Hanna, 12 PhotobyHailey Buursink

What's Next Is Always on Our Minds

Submitting college applications or enjoying senior events, Senior Ah-roh Ko takes in her last moments at McLean.

Senior Specialty

Focused on completing her college applications, senior Ah-roh Ko shares what she enjoys most about being in her final year of high school. "It is really nice because while it is stressful doing college apps, you can look forward to really fun school activities that McLean provides. It's really nice to have things like senior sunrise, graduation and prom to look forward to," Ko said. Photo byAlexandria Greenstone College Conundrum

Preparing for her last year of high school, senior Ah-roh Ko began working on her college applications in August. "I think it's definitely been stressful at times but with all the resources that Ihave at school and with my family and close friends, its been pretty easy to navigate hard problems that Ihave to solve during this college application process," Ko said.

Club Meetings: "I spend my Highlander Times going to Morgan's Message because it's a club that I feel strongly about. It supports student athletes' mental health, which is an important cause to me because I am an athlete and so are the people around me." -Jason Babalitis, 12 Photo byHaileyBuursink

Going Outside: "Going outside during Highlander Time Flex is fun because you can get fresh air and exercise during the school day," - Sarah Tao, 10 PhotobyThomas Jester

PJ Pants

A big staple in MHS fashion for the last few years has been pajama pants, specifically those with plaid patterns. Highlanders wear pajama pants from the very first day to the very last. "I think the best time to wear plaid PJ pants is during the winter. They're perfect for the holiday season. I like to wear them with either slippers or sneakers," sophomoreArsen Hakobyansaid.

Drum

Major

While conducting her section of the marching band, senior Camille Stephant leads the performance at the Oct. 20 halftime show. The band used this performance to practice for their upcoming competition. "Being a drum major is so empowering, and I love the exhilarating pressure of it. I think the people I get to work with are amazing as well and that makes the whole experience super fun," Stephant said. PhotobyMattHarmon

Angus

Many students have taken on the identity of Angus throughout the years, and at some point this year it was senior TaliaBolden. "Being Angus has really shown me the strength and magnitude of our surrounding community. Seeing how an event at our school could bring together so many different kinds of people made me so proud to be a Highlander, especially seeing that everyone was having a great time," Bolden said.

Theater participants explain different aspects of the fall play, "Mr. Burns"

THE SHOW:

"We are completely flipping the stage and audience, so the performers will be in the audience seating and vice versa."

-Emma Springer, 12 THE ROLE:

"I think that its very important for the audience to notice that the notebook that Jenny used during Acts One and Two is the notebook that ends up in Act Three and is the basis for the plot in Act Three. If you listen really closely there are tons and tons of references in between Acts 1/2 and Act 3 because of the notebook."

- Samantha Carey, 11 THE AUDITION:

"I think one thing that the student body doesn't know about the audition process is how encouraging it is. It's obviously stressful and scary but Mr. Reid is a super nice guy, and when you're auditioning everyone in the room is super supportive and kind."

- Emma Weinshall, 10
