During mid-2020, influencers, YouTubers, and celebrities mostly got involved in some important matters about COVID-19. A year ago, the viral Filipino dancer-choreographer Rhemuel ‘Dj Loonyo’ Lunio’s comments about mass testing were one of the unforgettable happenings the netizens have called out.

A live stream hosted by a local hip-hop artist Mr. Mainit-Kenjhons and Dj Loonyo had a say-so on mass testing. He was claiming it as a “trial and error” method of vaccination in contrast to hosting tests to know if people have contracted the novel coronavirus or not.

My question is, why would you conduct mass testing? If ever you claim that this vaccine is 100% e f f e c t i v e , w h y would you conduct mass testing? Right? Meaning, I pity t h e p eo ple

Photo Courtesy: Philnews.ph who would be subjected to this. To those who will undergo mass testing, good luck on whatever reaction your body will have.) Testing is the footing of public health detective work to turn off an epidemic. “You can’t fight a virus if you don’t know where it is,” said the WHO director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Find, isolate, test, and treat every case, to break the chains of transmission. Every case we find and treat limits the expansion of the disease.” Physical or social distancing is advantageous as well, but not as beneficial as testing is. One must need a planetary distancing effort to stop their spread.

The hip-hop artist then left word on Loonyo that he is to undergo mass testing the next day at a studio where he is supposed to choreograph a dance; Loonyo got in touch with a discontented, “Oh my God!”

“I just don’t know. It’s like, gagana ba ‘tong bagay na ‘to sa ganitong ano? These –I don’t know kung ano ‘yung gagamitin nila sa mass testing – kung ano man ‘yung papainom nila, kung ano man ‘yung papagawa nila, it’s a trial and error (sic). That’s why it’s mass testing,” he commented.

“Kaya kawawa ‘yung magi-intake, mag-aundergo nun, kasi it’s not 100% proven. It shouldn’t be mandatory, it shouldn’t be encouraged,” Loonyo declared as well.

Large-scale testing is more than identifying and keeping cases apart. Data about the virus is ample power. Testing can also help in keeping health workers away from danger.

Determining the progression of an epidemic is brought about by massive testing as well. It can also hand out proof about regional variation and how the virus affects people of different ages and genders.

Loonyo stated that one should have their own choice. It would depend on them if they want to get tested but, he noted that he would not like to be tested. Also commenting that his body would react to whatever he will voluntarily ingest.

“Paano ‘pag ‘yung papainom mo sa ‘kin, magrereact ng medyo malala ‘yung katawan ko? I’m dead. Di ba? Kaya ‘di ako naniniwala sa mass testing na ‘yan,” he filled in.

(What if my body reacts badly to whatever they will make me take? I’m dead. Right? That is why I do not believe in mass testing.)

Testing for the virus across the general population, in other words, can tell us whether our conceptions about coronavirus are true.

“DJ Loonyo” immediately caught heads on Twitter following the live stream. Netizens and cocelebrities have been calling him out for his view on mass testing a few months into the quarantine.

Dr. Farr ah:MODERN

Some influencers cite certain products that can help, cure, or prevent certain diseases. Out of all the misleading big-named people, Doctor Farrah has made a big explosion. According to Dr. Farrah, she studied at Harvard University, which is incorrect. The reason being is that even though she did a course, it is for evidence-based optimal nutrition, an o n l i n e c o u r s e t h a t t a k e s ~ 5 h o u r s .

One of her claims is that you should have a cabbage compress if you have a swollen part of your body. This is false for a swollen part of your body can happen and is either brought by medications, pregnancy, infections, or other medical problems. The correct cure is physical examinations and medications.

She has commented that her product "Pixie Dust" can "help" people with anxiety, insomnia, duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, or gastritis. Pixie Dust's only ingredient is Magnesium Citrate. It is a saline laxative expected to work by increasing fluid in the small intestine. Pixie Dust is severely overpriced too. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the product on the 27th of November with her four other products because these are not medicine but food supplements. Dr. Farrah also has a distributor for her product named Brilliant Skin Essentials. The product is banned, however, the company is doing something illegal to distribute them. Glenda Dela Cruz, the company's CEO, had COVID-19 and got hospitalized. After feeling better, she promoted Boston C. Even if it is lacking research, she was claiming that she got better due to the product. Garlic being a portion of the best herbal treatments is another example of a word from her. Farrah says if you have a toothache, hypertension, migraines, or cancer, the best thing for you is garlic. Garlic is a good medicinal plant but it does not treat migraines or cancer, making this claim of her wrong. A portion of her products is Boston C. A coconut-based, fruit and herbal extracts to combat cancer. Other ingredients of the product are "garlic, soursop (guyamano), bitter melon (ampalaya), lemongrass (tanglad), tomato, kamias, salay, pandan, star apple (caimito), banaba leaves, ascorbic acid, and citric acid." According to Antonio R. Agustin, a Filipino herbal scientist, he proved that the Boston-C Herbal Supplements are useful in combating stage IV cancer diseases. "Ninety percent of the tumors disappeared in just 10 days," "tumors of any size could disappear completely even before the treatment is over," "Boston C has also been able to heal prostate, bone, brain cancers, bronchial asthma cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, swelling, sinuses, and many more," "this God-given supplement can cure all illnesses that science or mode r n m e d i c i n e c a n ’ t c u r e . "

There are also lots of testimonies about Boston C, but testimonies are not evidence. They are stories. A doctor on Youtube named Doc Adam said that he found no evidence that Boston C can cure cancer. It is suspicious that Dr. Farrah's clinic got shut down for unregistered products and it was also the FDA that shut down her clinic. According to testimony, Dr. Farrah somehow guessed the type of cancer and stage of cancer of the patient by just touching the lump and putting the patient on a specific diet. The diet made the patient's tumor smaller however she was starving to death. The patient started eating and unfortunately, it started growing again. The reason why the patient's tumor got smaller was because she was starving. The tumor became less than its usual size, but cancer never left. If somebody has cancer, it is better to start eating more because the less you eat, the sicker you get.
