After an eight-year hiatus, the 2023 Point Mugu Air Show took flight over a two-day public performance in March. Hosted by the Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), it was only the third time both the USN Blue Angels and the USAF Thunderbirds Demonstration Squadrons have performed at the same event and the first time together at Point Mugu.
Watching our military piloting these Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets and Air Force F-16s—flying at low altitude and at speeds over 700 mph—easily raises the hair on your arms and brings a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. It’s a rush of excitement realizing how proud we can be of our armed forces. In celebrating the 50th anniversary of women in Navy flight, many pilots at the show were ladies, including aerial stuntwoman Vicky Benzing in her PT17 Stearman.
