CELEBRATING THE SPRING EQUINOX
from March/April 2023
As the winter months slowly come to a close, we all eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring. The spring equinox, also known as the vernal equinox, marks the beginning of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, the spring equinox falls on March 20, and we are gearing up to welcome the season with open arms.
The spring equinox marks the moment when the sun crosses the equator, making night and day almost equal in length. It is a time of renewal, rejuvenation, and growth, as nature awakens from its winter slumber. In California, the spring equinox means blooming wildflowers, longer and warmer days, and a multitude of outdoor activities to enjoy. Many of California's parks and gardens will be showcasing their vibrant flora and fauna, including the famous California poppies, which paint the hillsides in hues of orange and gold.

Hiking is a popular activity during the spring equinox in Southern California, and there are many trails and parks to explore. From the coastal bluffs of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve to the Edward Albert Trail that leads to the multi-tiered 150-foot Escondido Falls—the highest in the Santa Monica
Mountains, we have access to some of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the world.
Additionally, spring marks the start of the outdoor festival season, with numerous events scheduled in our community and throughout the state.
As we welcome the arrival of spring, let us also take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature and the changing of the seasons. We hope you are inspired to get outside and enjoy the beautiful California sunshine, take a hike, visit the beach, or simply enjoy a picnic in one of the city's parks. n
