Designer Profile

I am an Interior Architecture student fascinated by future developments in technology, marketing and design. Inspired by providing a thematic approach to designing interiors, I am determined to analyse future trends in the food and beverage industry for future company developments. With a technological approach to architecture, the exploration of immersive spaces is a key factor in my initial planning and considerations.

Context Introduction The food and beverage industry is constantly evolving in tune with technological enhancements to help foster a meaningful and unforgettable experience. Alluding to the Future Laboratory’s ‘Trend thesis’ of Idea Den, Cultural Brailling, Opportunity Cartogram and Trend Thesis, this report further analyses and elaborates on the potential future of the food and beverage industry for architects and interior architects to consider when creating a company.

This company specialises in incorporating digital technology to craft immersive environments through providing tailor-made experiences for clients and visitors within designed spaces. This report will delve into the detailed processes and steps required for brand start-up.

Speculating the World in 2043 The food and beverage industry has always been a competitive one and the success of a business relies heavily on the customer experience. A meaningful and memorable experience is important and this is built not only from the quality of the product provided but from the customer’s interaction with the surrounding environment. Clients of the food and beverage industry will be guided toward trends of escapism and immersive interactive experiences which the recent growth has influenced in AI and technological enhancements. Through a connection to the senses, the speculated Harman Fan has an opportunity to create the positive and meaningful experiences that clients are seeking.

We therefore predict a strong desire for immersive and adaptive spaces within the food and beverage industry, driven by the consumer's desire for escape. Referring to the predicted timeline above, 2024 sees a greater adaptation for personalisation. With digital technology in its prime, face recognition will enable the food and beverage industry to cater to the individual needs of ingredients, atmosphere and menu. Dining spaces will be customisable based on customer requirements with the ability to change the desired temperature, lighting, and sound of their particular zone. They also allow for interior adaptability without needing physical upgrades, saving businesses on costs and wasted materials.

Recent shifts in societal norms, consumer needs and rising costs in labour, rent and materials has seen business owners searching for solutions to adapt and stay up to date in the fast-paced industry. Many businesses are seeking more for less while also looking for innovative ways to connect to consumers.

In a post-lockdown world with rising costs and environmental disasters on our doorstep, consumers are seeking escapism and a trend in immersive and interactive experiences has arisen from this. The popularisation of AI in recent times has also seen a stronger focus on digital technologies and many are questioning how technology will be used in the future to improve our lives.

We therefore predict a strong desire for immersive and adaptive spaces within the food and beverage industry, driven by the consumer's desire for escape. Assisted by digital technology in the form of interactive visual and audio systems, these spaces could provide opportunities for immersion and customer personalisation. They also allow for adaptability within the interior without the need for physical upgrades, saving businesses on costs and wasted materials.

An opportunity arises here for interior designers and architects to specialise in unique immersive experiences, made possible through the adoption of digital technology within the interior space.

Through a connection to the senses, these designs have the opportunity to create the positive and meaningful experiences that consumers are seeking.

They have helped many businesses to successfully increase public attention and create a strong brand identity. The firm’s value proposition is therefore in line with our trend thesis and will give them a strong advantage in the industry in the future.

Strategic Implications The evaluations above allow us to see the gap in the market which should feature a more accessible company with high digital expertise. Despite drawing inspiration from the digital immersive experiences these architecture firms produce, there is a lack of client focused initiatives which is explored in our company.

Driven by consumer’s desire for escape, we set ourselves apart from other architectural firms through immersive, adaptive and personalised spaces. Digital technology is our greatest feature and allows for customisable menus, sceneries, and atmospheres. This allow for interior adaptability without needing physical upgrades, saving businesses on costs and wasted materials.

This unique value lies in their capacity to transform spaces into functional, aesthetically pleasing environments, backed by a wealth of experience and the resources to make it happen.

According to Business Victoria’s website, a vision statement should address three major ideas of where the business will be in the future, the purpose of the business and what impacts the business has on customers, community and/or the world. (business.vic.gov.au) 2. Should interior architecture firms update their visions regularly, or maintain one for the entirety of the business?

Effective vision statements should possess timeless qualities, remaining consistent with flexibility in minor changes due to environmental changes to enhancements. Although business and industry specific, visions should be challenging enough to be used to maintain goals and do not consist of one-time targets (e.g. sales or profit). As research and practical experience tell us that visions inspire, motivate, provide direction and foster success, the evaluation of outcomes should help companies strive to excellence in a constant matter.

Final Reflection Reflecting on the lessons from this unit and my business proposal has enriched my understanding of the essential elements that underpin successful brand positioning. The weekly seminars provided valuable tools to shape a well-structured business model through a process of trial and error. With varied interior architecture knowledge, this project has encouraged me to think critically about future ventures and trends. The proposal was a collaborative effort, incorporating feedback from tutors, classmates, and my wider network, reinforcing the significance of working together to refine ideas.

Effective management, the right partnerships, key activities, and a wellconsidered cost structure are essential components for crafting a compelling value proposition and a great business model canvas. This learning experience has reaffirmed the importance of holistic thinking, where the technology and human intelligence should work together for built success. With these principles in mind, I feel better equipped to navigate the complex world of interior architecture and business, ensuring the smooth execution of projects and the delivery of exceptional value to clients.
