Advice FROM HER PARENTS...
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE PARENT S GOING THROUG H THIS CHANGE NEXT SEASON ? I would advise parents of new Performance riders to be patient and supportive… Good show results along with blue ribbons are not always won overnight! It takes time for riders and performance horses to become familiarized with each other. Sometimes people get caught up in the results of horse shows and forget the most important part, the journey. One thing we have always said to our rider Ellie was, "Be safe, have fun and ride your best today."

WHAT WOULD YOU COMPAR E COST WITH? Be proud of what you have and don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. From a cost perspective it does cost. Not in a bad way, but just like any other sport does. There are many items on the list like training and boarding, showing, show suits, advertising and many more. HOWEVER, it does not mean it’s not doable from many ends of the spectrum. In my opinion, it comes down to a choice of anyone who wants to, can figure out a way to make something work. Your rider does not need the biggest and best of everything for success in Performance. We chose to figure out ways to do our best with what we do have. We would not have it any other way for all of the fun, laughter and love we have shared together through showing.
DID YOUR SCHED ULE CHANG E? Our schedule did change with Performance shows. Performance shows usually start midweek as opposed to Academy on weekend only days. We have found it helpful to start planning and selecting shows with our trainer at the beginning of the year for planning days off work and/or school absences. We enjoy watching and learning from other show sessions during this time as well. Brenda Newell with ASHA has been a great resource with helping us obtain notes for school absences for the participation of Performance horse shows.
