Modern technology: about as popular as COVID in an elevator

Hi Tropicairnians,

Many a heated conversation has been started at the dinner table by this topic. But this topic sometimes is ignored because too many millennials at the table are too busy on their mobile phones. So obviously this important discussion happens only with us older more sage individuals.

Is life better with mobile phones?

Originally we had the good old dependable landline phones, which I reckon was fantastic because all you had to do to be out of contact is walk outside and bingo no phone contact. Or if you wanted to you could lift the handset off the base and instantly to callers you were popular as all heck and yakking on the phone. Then some numpty geeks invented the cordless phone and quicker than getting kicked by Skippy we lost that freedom.

When the mobile phone was first introduced to the general public they were commonly referred to as bricks, a fitting name as that is basically what they were.

Now we have this thing they refer to as the smart phone that these millennials wanted; fitted with cameras, recorders, MMS, SMS, Email, Maps, GPS and so much more crap in such a little flimsy expensive unit.

Now these bricks did the job we wanted them for; making phone calls for when we were on work sites or in an emergency situation and they were virtually indestructible for I don’t know how many times mine dropped from decent heights and always worked. Now at the onset on this luxury was very expensive to use, especially if your kids got hold of it to make calls to mates.

Now I don’t know about you but having some huge companies knowing every

step I take, every word or thing I peruse and every place I visit makes me uncomfortable. But crikey I feel that I am walking around naked if by some stupid memory loss the phone is left at home and no one can contact me for probably some idiotic suggestion or Nigerian Prince’s request for my bank details so they can give me millions of dollars.

Too late now to reverse the clock; and have person to person conversations at restaurants.

Let’s wind back the technology and sit down face to face and chat, you know, real words and emotions, not emoji and Egyptian hieroglyphs shorthand.
