TimeOut Talented duo’s one-off concert

GIFTED writer, performer and entertainer and successful independent artists Lior is teaming up with exciting and new emerging talent Domini Forster for a one-off performance in Cairns next week.

Lior, renowned for his beautiful voice and songs that radiate truth and sincerity, burst onto the Australian music scene in 2005 with his debut album Autumn Flow which has become one of the most successful independent debut releases in Australian music history.

Initially Domini toured as Lior’s support act, then as a guest vocalist and now as co-writer on their debut EP, Animal in Hiding.

Animal in Hiding features songs that are rooted in intimate storytelling. Underpinned by intricate guitar, Lior and Domini’s close vocal harmonies are the focal point of the songs, harking back to the iconic folk duos of the 60s.

Animal in Hiding is the first release from a collaboration between the pair who have developed a creative partnership over six years touring together.

While Lior and Domini began writing the songs in late 2019, much of the material was developed during Melbourne’s long lockdown, over zoom from their respective homes.

“In singing together, Domini and I discover a pair who can weave in and out of each other’s shadow,” Lior said.

“Somehow, we sense one another’s vocal nu- ances in real time. It is a rare musical synergy, one we felt compelled to capture in a collaborative project.”

Domini said singing with Lior was a pleasure.

“We have a real kinship as singers. There’s something special in the blend of our voices that we both immediately recognised.

“And as we’ve sung more together over the years, we’ve gotten to know each other’s intuition and style, so we can match our phrasing and expression very closely.

“Honestly, I think a big part of why we started this collaboration was just so we could sing together more. There’s also something really wonderful and freeing about working with someone who cares just as much as you do.’

Domini said she was in high school when Autumn Flow came out, so the songs were a part of her formative years.

“I very clearly remember This Old Love becoming a fixture of my year 12 common room.

“So it’s fair to say I was pretty excited when I got the chance to play violin in a student string section with Lior for a guest spot he did at my uni’s songwriting competition.

“I was also competing as a songwriter and ended up winning the comp.

“More significantly though, Lior saw my performance and asked me to support him for a couple of shows.”

“It felt so wonderful to have my work valued by such an accomplished artist, and one that I really admire.”

The one-off show is at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre on Friday, March 17 at 8pm.
