Hi.

My name is Gift.

I am 9 years old.

I come from Zambia, a country in Africa.

Here I am with my family – my Mum, Dad and little brother.

Gift’s family used to find it hard to earn enough money to buy food. They used to eat pumpkin leaves for each meal.

With CAFOD’s help, Gift’s family are able to grow food and earn money.

Now that they have tools and seeds for the garden, Gift’s family have set up their own vegetable garden.

They also have cows which plough the land and give milk.

They can breed the cows to earn more money.

With a water supply, they can grow vegetables all year around and have a healthy diet.

I like the garden, because when I see the tomatoes grow, I know my mum will be happy.

We earn money by selling some of the tomatoes we grow at the market.
