This is a house that is deeply integrated with its exceptional site and frames the user's experience in unique ways. The house is continually changing how you relate to the surrounds - from the stepped approach mirroring the topography, through the subgrade and hidden rooms at level one, to the extensions into the landscape and garden spaces at the living level, and ultimately, to the bedroom level floating over the larger city below. The architecture is designed to complement and enhance that experience through the manipulation of space, light, and materiality.
As the architecture of this remarkable home embraces and amplifies its surroundings, our furnishing selection process sought to ground you in that experience. Each piece, curated or designed and fabricated, was selected to seamlessly interface with the architect’s vision while providing comfort and warmth through a palette of muted color and rich texture. The interplay of the home’s indoor/ outdoor effect created a holistic environment where site, architecture, and interiors merged to express a unified vision for the home. The alchemy of our efforts ended up bringing and unforeseen connoisseur’s opportunity to the residential market.

Our firm was chosen to be a part of this project for our expertise in realizing complex architectural design and our talent in executing exacting construction detail work. The architecture was sited beautifully on a private cul-de-sac, taking advantage of a wide lot and panoramic views of the city. We were charged to take our client's vision, along with the architecture and design, and bring it to reality. We felt an enormous amount of gratitude to be able to work on this spectacular house. It was a complex build that, upon completion and reflection, we see as the pinnacle or our firm’s finest work.
This is a strong house. How do we get to it gracefully? The front stairs became a journey of discovery at each level and turn; the colorful succulents, the black planter to work with the house colors, a little stream, a fountain, a bench to rest and contemplate, a living wall. Color in all seasons. Hopefully one would be a little calmer from a busy day when reaching the front door. We went shopping at the nursery for inspiration, and then there they were; the boxwood balls!! What a great way to celebrate the precise straight line grey geometry of the walls than with green globes.

Studio Collins Weir is a full-service interior design studio based in the San Francisco Bay Area with projects reaching from California to New York City.
