Do you know what it means to enjoy and learn? Then you know what happens when you’re in the province of Cadiz, because in Cadiz you learn to really enjoy yourself and you enjoy learning. It is a destination that even goes beyond what you see: beyond its endless beaches of clear waters and fine sand between pine forests and large dunes, beyond its natural parks, beyond its impressive history that leaves castles, fortifications and archaeological sites as proofs of its exciting past. Even beyond its cuisine, its position as the birthplace of tapas, the sherry wines of Jerez, its unique festivals and its monumental cities. Even beyond flamenco, which touches the very roots of our origins through music.
Because beyond all that the province of Cadiz has to offer, lies its philosophy of life, its people, its personality, its way of dealing with the weather as it enjoys more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and mild temperatures. The province of Cadiz has a unique identity that captivates and enriches you. As they say around here in local parlance, “estate al liquindoi como buen guachisnai” (stay on top of things like a good foreigner) and really make the most of your stay.
Don’t just come to see this place. The province of Cadiz is something you have to experience to the full.
Learning Spanish in the province of Cadiz is synonymous with quality. Teachers with extensive experience and schools with a long track record and a wide range of courses for all levels: beginner courses in small groups, advanced courses for teachers, exam preparation for official qualifications with the D.E.L.E. (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language), specific courses, business and technical Spanish, intensive courses... And all of them supported by new technologies that enable more dynamic, participatory and highquality learning.
But these schools, academies and the University School of Modern Languages (CSLM) at the University of Cadiz also offer students another type of learning: experience. This can be gained through living with a local family, with other students, living a dayto-day life in your chosen city or town, discovering and enjoying the local culture and Spanish culture in general, the hospitality of the people, the history of their towns, their festivals and traditions, their wonderful cuisine... To sum it up, this is ‘quality of life’.
This is all complemented by the opportunity to learn and use a language spoken by more than 572 million people worldwide, which has unique characteristics and is a living language.
For all these reasons, we look forward to welcoming you to Cadiz, a city that is both unique and multifaceted, where learning Spanish is inextricably linked with the friendliness and warmth of its people, their open contact with visitors from abroad, their hospitality, and the variety of the region’s landscapes and villages.

Living in the province of Cadiz is like embarking on a journey of culture, identity and rhythm. The year begins with laughter as our ally and satire as our lifeline amid the songs, parades and costumes of the Cadiz Carnival. And you’ll have a blockbuster time at the San Roque International Short Film Festival or Alcances. The sea that bathes Cadiz brings waves to the rhythm of flamenco, which resonates with the sound of heel tapping, Spanish guitar and an artistic expression that springs from its roots in flamenco festivals and the Fiesta de la Bulería. There is such clarity on the horizon of this province that even prayers spring from hope rather than fear. That is why popular religiosity is embraced in the springtime folklore of Easter Week. It is different in each town, yet all characterised by the same cheerful spirit. Just like the fairs, from the Feria del Caballo horse fair to the Feria de la Manzanilla sherry fair. It is the perfect place to stop and refuel before continuing your journey across the sea that bathes the province and floods the marshes that trace the characteristic channels of the Bay of Cadiz, giving rise to the despesques (natural estuary fishing).
The province of Cadiz always hears the roaring of the sea and also the roaring of the motorbikes of the Motorcycle Grand Prix, it also hears the peaceful atmosphere illuminated only by the light of the candles in Conil and from the hustle and bustle in front of an Andalusian courtyard that contrasts the colours of the flowers with the whitewashed walls of the courtyards of the residents of El Puerto de Santa María. The journey on this boat is as whimsical as it is historic: it comes into port in 1810 with a re-enactment of the War of Independence in Algodonales, then drops anchor in the 15th century during the upheaval of a Moors and Christians re-enactment in Benamahoma, as well as anchoring in front of the ancient Almadraba fishing nets, while tuna weighing up to 700 kilograms are jumping around inside.
Among the landscapes that the route offers, there is time for silence, but the wind that is so ever-present throughout the journey brings with it all kinds of sounds. From great artists and groups in the Concert Music Festival, Puro Latino Festival, Cabaret Festival, Cabo de Plata Festival, Trebufestival, Festival ochentero (1980s-themed Festival) in Sierra de Cadiz, flamenco festivals, Spanish Music Festival, No sin Música festival, Garbanzo Rock, Jazz Festival, Monkey Weekend and even the Tío Pepe Festival, held in a Jerez winery where the music resounds on the sherry barrels, that same wine which brings the Harvest Festivals to life every September.
And of all the sounds, one is unmistakable, as it fills the horizon: the sound of horses galloping across the fine sand of the beaches of Sanlúcar de Barrameda at sunset in the summer.
The flamenco rhythms of the waves, the fish caught in the estuaries, the music that echoes even inside the wine barrels, the roar of motorbikes and historical re-enactments may seem like pure theatre, like the Ibero-American Theatre Festival in Cadiz, but they are in fact the real thing in this magical journey that envelops the province of Cadiz every year. And you know that a new year is coming when the sound of spontaneous zambombas echoes in the warmth of flamenco clapping heard in any square in Jerez de la Frontera.
Cadiz arrives and Cadiz returns. But once you experience it, the province of Cadiz stays with you forever. Nothing is the same after this. And the horizon, when you look at it, will tell you just how lucky you are to have taken this journey.
